For some couples, making the decision to write their own vows may be the easiest part of the task. But the writing itself, may not be so easy. Why? Well, many of us haven't written since our school days and when it comes to writing our deepest feelings about our intended partner, it may be easy to be intimidated. So, here are a few ideas: When you're writing your vows, don't worry about getting everything on paper perfectly right away. A great way to start your creative juices going is to simply write free-form whatever comes into your head. Don’t worry about editing or if something sounds right, just let whatever is in your head and heart flow onto paper. Once you have written your feelings, go back through what you wrote and edit it. You may find you need to clarify a few points or completely take out some items. Also, you can rearrange your thoughts at this point to create a more cohesive statement. Keep your thoughts simple when you edit. Your intended isn't expecting Shakespeare; your fiance will simply want to hear your heartfelt vows. Also, be specific. Let them know the exact reasons you fell in love with them and how you envision your daily life to be with them for years to come. A great way to finalize your vows is to have a trusted friend take a look at them for you. A friend who writes professionally or even just one who enjoys reading, can be a great resource for you. Your vows will be beautiful and memorable as long as you share what is in your heart.
