TIPS from the South

The comments that follow are from a long-time wedding reception band in the South - um, Georgia or Louisiana or - well, ANYWAY - their manager had written some GREAT tips that we're passing along to you. We are SUPER EASY to get along with! - but he had some useful tips for making things go better for all the participants, including y'self. I've thrown in a few comments from our own experiences. Read, choose what info you want, ignore the rest, and above all - HAVE A GREAT PARTY at your reception! (By then, you will have earned it!)

Great Wedding Favor Idea!

Brian and I photographed a beautiful wedding this past weekend in Port Gamble. The reception was in Bremerton and the couple had the neatest wedding favor, I just had to share this idea with brides planning a wedding and trying to think of favor ideas.

At each place setting there was a white little box that had a red ribbon glued around the box and a silver monogram foil seal on top. On a long table at the back of the banquet room there were various glass vases and dishes filled with various cool and fun candy. There were votive candles spread out along the table that lit up the glass vases. It was beautiful! The guests were told to take their boxes up to the table and fill it with candy. Each vase and bowl had a little scoop or wooden tong to grab or scoop the candy. The guests, young and old, loved it! Everyone had a fun time choosing their candy and filling up their candy boxes.

Why have a Wedding Videographer?

I was a bride about a year ago. I didn't think videography was that important, afterall I would have photos that would last a lifetime. That's true, the pictures will last; but I sure would have loved to have every moment captured and watch them come alive on DVD.

Its a call you, as a bride, have to make. But, if I could do it again, I would have hired a professional videographer. So, don't be left with any regrets. If you think that there's any part of you that would like to have video documenting your wedding-just go ahead and pay the money to have it done professionally! You don't want your Uncle Scott to accidentally let go of the camera and it get a shot of the ceiling during your wedding vows! (Yes, that happened to me!)

At Capsule Productions, we can provide you all sorts of video services. We are willing to travel almost anywhere in Middle and West TN; and our packages start at only $600. Check out our website: www.capsuleproductions.net!

Preservation tips for brides

Hi this is Susan from Lasting Keepsakes in Las Vegas Nv. I just wanted to give you a few tips on what to do if you would like to preserve you bouquet in any city.

1. Make sure you get with a company that is a professional flower perservationist. One way to do this is to ask questions. Ask how they preserve their flowers/ freeze drying is one way but first aid sand or(silica sand blend) is another. Hopefully the company that you go with is using both, because different flowers dry better in each. You want someone who knows.
2.Also ask if they guarantee their work. You would be surprised how many do not.
3. With flower care- make sure you let your florist know that you are going to preserve your flowers so that your flowers are as fresh as possible. The fresher the flower, the better it preserves and looks.
If you want to also preserve the boutaniere, take it off your new husband so it does not get squooshed(lol)believe me it happens all the time.
Make sure after the wedding your flowers get some water and put them in the fridge to keep them as fresh as possible and to keep you flowers from opening any farther.
4. One suggestion that I make is to have you flowers picked-up from your reception. It saves you from the worry of how to get it the preservationist. Hopefully they have a free service for that. If you have any other questions, I would love to help!!!

Cheers from Vegas

perfect

This week I celebrate 26 years of being married. Can't believe how quickly time has flown. I mean how can it be that just yesterday we were saying our own "I do's"? In thinking back on our day I remember how perfect it was... and it makes me chuckle because perfection is indeed a state of mind. Some would say that your photographer not showing up would be a problem... and then some would say that having 300 guests show up at the reception hall only to discover the venue was 2 hours behind would be a disaster. But you know what I say?... it was all really perfect. You see I believe those things are just challenges, the most important thing of that day was marrying the most perfect man in the world for me. Once I kept my eye on that detail the rest fell into place. Tom and I were in photo school so along with another student we photographed our wedding, my father handled the caterers and we ended up dancing far into the night.

I learned a lot from that day. One... I am never and I do mean never... late for a wedding. In fact I am always in the area 1 hour before start time in case something should come up. I never trust traffic in the Pacific Northwest so leaving extra early for my assignment is just part of the service. The other thing I learned is that I appreciate the stress a wedding day can create... but with if everyone pulls together the Bride and Groom should only remember that it was perfect... absolutely perfect.

Men getting bolder?

Here at WEDDING RING WORKSHOP, where couples come in to make each other's rings with their own hands under the guidance of a Master Jeweler, we've noticed an interesting trend.
Quite a few men are coming in to make engagement rings, usually in secret. They then propose to their significant others, offering the ring with the telling phrase "I made this for you with my own hands"
What girl could resist the sheer romanticism of such a proposal?
We usually reserve some precious metal so, when they come in later to make each other's wedding bands, we have matching metal waiting.

Don't Be Overwhelmed

Planning a wedding can be a daunting task, and many brides find themselves overwhelmed by the details. There are a million ways to customize a wedding and make it unique, but you can easily go overboard and find yourself stressed out by all the options. Get lots of help from others and plan things out one at a time.

One bit of advice I always share is to focus on what is most important to you. Is it the pictures, the flowers, or for your guests to have fun? For instance, your wedding photos will be with you forever, so I recommend choosing a photographer you know you'll be happy with and not regret. It may mean spending a little more money, but it's worth it. Whatever is most important to you, make that the focus of your time.

Most importantly, don't forget what your wedding is about--making a commitment to someone special for the rest of your life. It's easy to get bogged down in the details and not remember why you're doing what you're doing.

So, take a deep breath and relax. It's your day, and it will be beautiful no matter what.

Welcome to my Blog!

Planning a wedding is a massive undertaking. There are so many details to attend to, and at the top of the "to do" list, the most time consuming is invitations! When the wedding is over, the last duty of the bride and groom is making sure all the guests have been properly thanked.

Top 10 Items to Have in Your Pantry

We all know there are certain "staples" that you should have in your pantry. Do you know the top 10? Here they are:

Canned tomatoes
Chicken, beef or vegetable broth
Dried pasta
Canned beans (black beans, navy, pinto, kidney - you get the idea)
Canned tuna fish
Dried fruits
Olives
Good quality, unflavored breadcrumbs
Tomate sauce/tomato paste
Rice

Quick tip: Keep unflavored breadcrumbs on hand, rather than Italian seasoned. Why? You can flavor your breadcrumbs however you would like simply and easily by adding a pouch of dried soup & dip mix! You can also use the dried soup mix as a great addition to chop meat, to coat over roasted potatoes or other roasted veggies. Email me if you would like a great Pampered Chef recipe for Crispy Ranch Chicken Salad.

How should I apply my makeup for a separate photo shoot or evening wedding?

Since lighting plays such a HUGE role in the appearance of your photos, it is important to understand what to do when you are being photographed in a studio or indoors, when the photographer will be USING A FLASH.

The flash can wash you out, potentially making you appear drab and lifeless (or faceless!!).

-You can help counteract this by wearing foundation that is a shade darker than what you would normally wear; or the BETTER, more natural-looking alternative: sculpting your face using a bronzer to contour and a light loose powder to highlight (or 3 foundation colors: your regular color, one shade darker to contour, and one shade lighter to highlight)

As a general rule of thumb, darker colors will make those features to which they are applied recede, and lighter colors will bring out the areas to which they are applied.
And the goal is not only bring out the best of your facial structure, but if you do not have an oval-shaped face, to give the illusion that it is more oval-shaped.
(I go in-depth on sculpting, and all the specifics for your face shape, at the bridal consultation.)

-Another important step to keep from looking washed out is to use blush.
Youメll want to pick a shade that is a little more colorful than what you normally wear.
Warmer colors usually work best, as they give your skin a fresh healthy glow. Find your perfect color by briskly walking until your cheeks begin to flush: Thatメs your most natural blush color!

-Define your eyes best with nicely-applied false eyelashes, rather than heavy eye liner or eye make-up.

-Eye colors with warm undertones compliment every eye color, even brown.

-Use matte or shimmer shadows, but never, NEVER frosted ones. And be sure at least one of your eye shadows is matte if you are using shimmer.

- Your brows frame your eyes like your hair frames your faceナ.make sure they are well-groomed and then define them with a brow pencil or eye shadow.

-This is NOT the time for bright or bold colors. Choose colors just a few shades darker than your natural skin and lip tones.

-define your lips well!

-In the studio you can use foundation or powder with a sheen to it, if you want. But DO NOT USE IT IN THE CEREMONY.

-Keep you skin powdered and matte ヨ if it is moist or モdewy,ヤ it will not photograph well.

-BLEND! BLEND! BLEND! Although you have more room for error when a flash is being used, harsh lines are still a major no-no. Make sure the transitions of color are soft and seamless across your face and eyelids, while your eyes and lips remain clearly defined.

The goal is always to put your best features in the spotlight.
(This means that they need to be clearly defined.)

Donメt give in to the temptation to simply cover everything up with lots of heavy make-up.

Give your eyes and lips definition and use a few simple sculpting techniques as described above, and your photos will turn out perfect!

Another alternative to the Toss

Aloha,

As you read in my email, brides are opting out of the typical bouquet and garter toss. A nice alternative to the toss is a presentation. Think about a loved one or something significant in your life. Someone who may have touched your life in a very special way. This is a poignant moment and can be shared with all your family and friends. What an honor!

We have several ideas we can share with you to keep your reception memorable and fun for you and your guests. We are planners and entertainers... so ask us how we can help tailor your reception to fit your entertainment needs.

Till next time, Aloha.

From A Spectator's View (What I Over Hear & See as a Photographer)

To all the beautiful Brides-To-Be,

Although I have been shooting weddings for only a short time, I have noticed a few recurring trends. I thought they may help you who are in the planning stages to have a little bit of a "heads up" from an outsiderメs point of view.

I'll be doing a few blogs over the next few days/weeks to try and convey what I have seen/heard at the weddings that I have had the privilege to partake of.

1. Wedding Coordination

A. Yourself: If you are shouldering all the burden, are you going to be relaxed and calm before your ceremony or wondering about the flower petals being evenly spaced along the runner? I know that you want the ceremony and reception to go exactly as you want and that you may not want or have the budget for a coordinator, but beware of placing too much of the details on yourself. Remember, the few hours before the ceremony will commence, you are going to be a ball of nerves already worrying about your make-up, hair, dress, and the people in the wedding party. Do you really want to add the stress of whether or not the place cards are set on the side of the plate or on top of them like you want? If you can't squeeze a coordinator into the budget, ask a few (not just one) family members or friends to help out. Assign one or two tasks to each person. If it is a big task, think about asking 2 or 3 people to work together on it, breaking up individual elements for each to take care of. Make sure they are reliable and not forgetful people. Getting angry at your cousin for forgetting to bring the bubbles, when you knew that he/she would forget their head if it wasnメt attached to them, is only going to cause tension within the family and headaches for you.

1. Counter-point: One thing to make sure of when assigning tasks to family or friends is: Do they really want to help you? Ask them if they really want to help, or just feel that they have to because they donメt want to say モNo.ヤ If they really donメt want to, donメt force them, as it will only cause problems. On the same note, donメt be hurt about it. Some people just donメt feel confident enough to have a part of something this important placed upon their shoulders. There are plenty of people more than willing to help out! Use your resources.
2. Mother/Mother-in-Law: If you are close to either your Mother or Mother-in-Law, and you feel that if you put your entire wedding in their hands, they would give you everything you would want, by all means go right ahead! For those brides with differing tastes, not that you love them less, but you know they would want your wedding one way and you another, make sure you converse frequently the days leading up to the wedding on what you want exactly. Donメt be harsh; just let them know that this is what you want and that you want to be watching over their shoulders at every detail. Remember, and remind them sometimes (gently), this is your day and you want them to be a part of it because you love them. You donメt want to remember your wedding day as モthe day Mom and I didnメt speak because she refused to let my fianc← see me before the wedding for our photo session.ヤ

B. Coordinator: Whether itメs a friend or someone you hired, you have to understand that they are going to be in charge of EVERYTHING that is going to happen on the day of your wedding. The Coordinator is there for a reason: You hired them to take the stress off! If you have hired someone, meet with them many times, as many as you feel it takes, to get them to see your vision. Some of you are saying, モI donメt really have a vision.ヤ Iメm sure some of you donメt have a completely detailed image of what you want, but you have an idea of what you donメt want. You may only know the flowers that you definitely want. No matter what, no bride has モno clueヤ of what they want. Back to the Coordinator: See what they have done before and think about what they can do for you. Do you see a trend or are they eclectic? If you see a recurring theme or item, such as a flower, color, flower vase, column, etc., is that something that will work for you? Like everything else in the planning of your big day, nothing beats Research!

1. Friend Coordinator: If your friend offers to coordinate your wedding and you take them up on it, I hope you flash one thought in your mind: Can we be friends if she/he messes this day up? Think back in your friendship, have you gone through rougher times? Have you survived? Did it take you a long time to forgive her/him? This is one of the biggest days of your life. If you leave it all on their shoulders and they disappoint you, even the slightest bit, are you going to be okay? Remember, the day of your wedding if going to be モ24 PMSヤ; youメll be okay until someone upsets you, and then everything may go up in the air. On the other hand, if this is someone who knows you, inside and out, or someone who is completely like you, there may be an upside. Again, meet with them as many times as it takes for them to see your vision. But be careful and donメt tread on any toes. This is your friend, they arenメt getting paid to put up with you, but they might just do it for free.

The one thing I would like to stress is, Be Patient. All those involved with your special day want you to be happy; they want you to have all that you dreamed.

And you take care of yourself. Maybe this is the day you have been dreaming about for a long time and maybe itメs not, but either way, stress is not healthy so why not just eliminate the need!

Mahalo!

Just a few of the many benefits of owning your own home

Owning a home helps build your net worth. Unlike rent payments, a portion of the money you pay goes toward building equity (i.e. the difference between the market value of a house and the amount still owed on the mortgage). As you pay off the mortgage, you owe less on the home and "own" a larger share of it.

Mortgage interest payments and property taxes are deductible. By owning a home, you can write off the interest on your mortgage and what you pay in property taxes, on your tax return. In many cases, this will take you above the minimum itemized deductible, allowing you to write off many other items.

Another advantage is that the equity you build over the years can help qualify you for other loans, such as college and car loans. If you would like to get pre- qualified and find out how much of a home you can afford, simply give me a call or send me an email. I am here to help you モGet Mortgage Ready!ヤ

Shhhh........don't tell anybody!!!

I'm addicted to "Whose Wedding is it Anyway?" and "Real Weddings from The Knot". Plus I read a lot of blogs from the various internet wedding sites. I'm such a closet romantic...LOL.

Anyhow, it's because of shows like these that I can empathize with the brides and grooms. There is so much dramaナ or maybe thatメs just for show? This is another example of how you can learn what not to do. Itメs another reason why I commit so much time and effort on my behalf to help the brides and grooms plan the perfect reception.

Thatメs all for today, Iメm off to help another bride and groom celebrate their special day.

Aloha, Dale

What Isagenix has done for me

A friend called me asking if I had any weight to lose. Well, of course I did! She invited me to take a look at the Isagenix 9-Day Cleanse and Fat Burning System. I thought about it for a few days and decided to give the 9-Day Cleansing System a try.

I was thrilled at losing 8 pounds and 16 body inches in just 9 DAYS! That was dramatic for me. What was even more significant was the observation of others. Others were commenting on how my skin, eyes and hair had a different, more radiant glow. MY OVERALL APPEARANCE HAD IMPROVED!

Like others, I have tried many, many diets; none of them were successful for me. I could always take weight off, but I would then gain it back and more. Through using the Isagenix Program I am realizing that this is not a diet but a lifestyle of cleansing, revitalizing and nourishing my body. So the diet mentality is over for me. I am investing in myself and living a lifestyle of wellness.

Aloha

This is an event that most brides have dreamed about since you were a little girl and you know that you want your day to be special. Hopefully, you will allow me to help you in making your day special in such a way that it reflects your personality and style of you and your future spouse.

One way to set the tone of your wedding is through your invitations. This is first impression that individuals will get about the type of wedding that you are planning.

I have always love attending weddings and all the hoopla that goes into the planning. But in the late, 1990s, I attended a few weddings that were just "thrown" together and you could tell. I truly believe that you do not have to spend "thousands or millions" of dollars to have a beautiful wedding. It's all about the planning and paying close attention to details while making the day as unique and special as you.

Last year I decided to launch a website (www.simplychicdesigns.cceasy.com) that will address all the aspects of planning a wedding. If you order from the website you will receive a 20% discount on your total order. I also design wedding invitations, programs, and response cards for couples on Ebay, too!

If you have any questions, about the website or would like to schedule an appointment I am willing to meet you anywhere on the island. If you would like to see the invitation catalog in person instead of on the website, please contact me!

I look forward to working with you, mahalo!

Private Dance lessons for First Dance

Many couples ask me when is a good time to take that dance lesson in preparation for their first dance. I feel that the best time is one month prior to the wedding. Find the music you want to dance to and take it with you to the lesson, and have the instructor use that music during the lesson. Listen to the music as much as possible before the lesson so you are very famaliar with the music-especially for the lead since he or she will be leading the dance. Being familiar with the music really helps during the lesson because it is one less thing to think about.
It usually only takes 1 one hour lesson-- and after you've taken that class and practice at least once a week to keep the moves in your mind/body.
And after your ceremony and you're about to do your First Dance remember to just have fun and realize your family and friend just want to see two people in love and having a good time on the dance floor.
Enjoy.

One size doesnt fit all...

Recently, I had the honor of being both a guest and the Reception entertainment/MC. It was Classy and Elegant. Champagne & caviar; perfection as defined by the bride and groom. No cheesy gimmicks, no games, and no Electric Slide. It was an event that the guests will remember as traditional yet still very entertaining.

At another reception, we played the Macarena, Electric Slide, and the Cha Cha slide. The guests were a bit rowdy and fun loving. Teriyaki chicken and Mahi-mahi were on the menu. There were twists and turns that the Bride and Groom had planned throughout the reception to keep their guests involved. It will be remembered as a fun event where the guests were really involved in the party.

Both receptions will be remembered as fun and entertaining by the guests. Both receptions will be remembered by the bride and groom as fun and exciting. Both receptions will be forever committed to memory by pictures, videos, and friends & family. Finally, both will be remembered and cherished by the bride and groom as their very own Special Celebration.

You have dreamt of this day for years. You have visions of how you want your special day to be. Let us help you realize those dreams. Call us today at 295-8504 and allow us to help you plan for that one special day. Stress free, worry free, and hassle free reception planning and entertainment; thatメs our mission.

Until next timeナ Aloha,

Trendy Wedding Flower Ideas

I love working with brides. Often they come up with some very unique ideas. I thought I would pass them on to you, along with some of my own ideas.

1. Have loose flowers in a container for the centerpiece on the tables. For your grand exit have guests throw the loose flowers over your head. It creates fabulous pictures, and is very entertaining.

2. Your Mom means so much to you on your wedding. Make her day special by giving her a pretty bouquet of flowers that she can hold towards the beginning of the ceremony. You can hide it behind your own sometimes.

3. Do you love animals? One of my clients decided to have huge bubble bowls filled with fish matching her wedding colors for centerpieces with some flowers scattered around it.

4. Do you love roses? Actually, any flower with a long stem would work for this idea. For your grand entrance into the reception hall have your bridesmaids and groomsmen come in with a long stemmed flower and then raise them up over their heads to create an arch. As each couple is introduced into the hall, the tunnel gets longer until you come in. The archway looks lovely as you run underneith it -what a statement!

5. It's your day. Make it special by placing your initials in the ground or on top of the ground with flower petals or flowers for garden weddings.

Thank you for visiting my blog. More ideas on my website www.jessicasfloralweddings.com Take care, and have a fabulous wedding!
Sincerely, Jessica
