Making Your Own Invitations?

Our company was founded by doing it yourself.

Walter and Gertrude Lilley founded this co. in 1927. It is still a family business. The original work was done in a small house on Potomac Street, and then moved to Virginia Avenue before moving to our present location on South Kingshighway in June of 1961.

We sometimes get to become "docs" who fix what brides started out on their own to do. We wish they would come to use sooner to let us do the technical portion of printing and typesetting, etc. so that they could save the "big money" in invitations....ASSEMBLY.....

And, we even show clients "how to assemble" and put them together. Some production issues are pretty frustrating and difficult when it comes to pulling off the professional look you want on our own.

Just because it is said to be done easily in a beautiful 4 color magazine....does not mean that pros did not spend many days figuring out the look.....Individuals cannot expect to do work that equals that without assistance.

Last summer, a bride came to us with work that a "graphic artist" friend had done for a gift. She was from out of town. The envelopes were let's say...mailing packages, etc. and the cuts were not even. She did not know what to do.

We DID. We ordered matching inner lined envelopes in a color that matched the ink. We designed a map and printed it on the same linen stock and used the same font(s). We did the cuts that trimmed up the edges evenly of each piece. We added cardstock for backing pieces, and topped the look off with computer calligraphy addressing of the outer and inner envelopes.

When she picked them up, we added a wide ribbon to tie the pieces together just in case she liked ribbon, and offered to buy it at 50% off the retail cost for her to tie them together herself, and told her how much she needed. Finding matching ribbon in sufficient quantities is very difficult to impossible, and costly for consumers alone.

No...we don't have to make what the full retail cost of this would have been. We just wanted her to have the total look she wanted....and to save money. We got to do what we love...help with the professional touches.

Her graphic designer paid for cardstock, did the typography...which was NOT perfect.... We pulled it off with extras...and TLC.

We would have loved to have pulled this off for her from the start.....Helped her do the planning so she would not have gone through the angst from the start.

We backed up and regrouped, and she came off with saving more than $1,000 in assembly work, etc. by letting us help her finish it...Her total design would have cost more than three thousand dollars, and cost her just a few hundred dollars, and she got to get her guests to the church more easily with the map.

We saved a crash and burn, and got to give our client the look she wanted to start with. And did it in such a way that her friend's feelings would not be hurt.

It is NOT easy to work with the best of friends on such sensitive matters.

We become your friendly working partner in creating the look you want!

Side order of aphrodisiac please

Is there such a thing called "love potion." There may not be a potion, which can make a person fall in love, but there are foods, which can get a person in the mood to make love. Such foods are considered "aphrodisiacs." Traditionally, the rarer the ingredient, the strong the aphrodisiac power. Moreover, the more the ingredient resembled a sexual organ, such as oysters, the stronger the power had over a person. For you health nuts, many foods considered aphrodisiacs are low in fat and high in vitamins and minerals. Consequently, a diet rich in aphrodisiac foods will give a person the health and stamina necessary to have long and enjoyable session of love-making. Thus, the magic of food with proper ambiance can create sexual or erotic bliss.
There are many foods, which can be considered aphrodisiacs, along with an unlimited amount of recipes in preparing these foods. One of my most popular products I sell is a beautiful cookbook, which gives great explanation about the food and delicious recipes that could melt anyone's heart. Everyone knows that chocolate and oysters are pleasing to a sexual appetite. However, did you know that basil, artichokes and avocados are aphrodisiacs, too?? Want to start the day off right, prepare for your lover an aphrodisiac breakfast- French Toast baked in Honey-Pecan sauce. Yummy!!! I'd love to share all of the recipes with you . . . but, keeping a person guessing is key to keeping a person wanting more!! See you next week.

Decorations

Decorations are no longer restricted to flowers. In fact, there are many other options. Donメt be afraid to experiment with new ideas! Use small wreaths. Try adding greenery swags with your theme ornaments attached. Mix and match ribbons and bows with greenery. Consider renting a single brass candle on a pole from a florist, which clamps to the pew. This can be decorated with greenery and bows, then light the candles just prior to the procession. Add cinnamon or perfumed sticks in flowers. The cinnamon can also be used after the ceremony to decorate the cake table or the head table at the reception. Floral arrangements and vibrant wreaths can be arranged to make a simple door more charming and inviting. If you are planning ahead, using silk flowers may be the best options because the flowers wonメt wilt.

Ceremony decorations may include:

A floral arrangement for the center of the altar.

Bows/markers at the end of the pews.

An arrangement for the entrance door.

Vase on either side of the bride and groom.

An archway for the bridal party to walk through.

Wreaths for the entrance doors.

Computer Calligraphy Addressing on your own

We have been asked many times about the wisdom of attempting to do this on your own. The truth is, it takes skill. While we use our own program, one designed for us that interfaces with databases. the reality is that it takes skill in printing your envelopes.

Invitations with expensive liners can be a huge problematic issue, and the result can be costly and stressful, often far more expensive than paying a few dollars to have this service provided for you.

Addressing with computer calligraphy with skill will usually require less spoilage of envelopes than hand addressing.

One couple who came to us for map design and printing told us that they spent an entire month and bought extra envelopes getting theirs done.

Spend your valuable time on other aspects of your wedding, and let the professionals do the work for you.

Advice on how best to do your own invitations next. Mrs. L.

How to Melt Away the Pounds

This is not a new diet or exercise regimen. I am talking about our newest treatment at The Body Wrap Shop.

The Body Melt uses infrared heat to increase the core temperature of the body slightly. The heat goes evenly throughout all muscle and tissue, creating a pleasantly warm sensation (think Texas summer). Body fat actually breaks down, is put back into circulation in the body, and is burned as calories during the 50 minute process.

How many calories can you melt away? The average is from 1200 to 2500 calories in one session. It takes about 3000 to 3500 calories to create or burn a pound of fat. Yes, you will perspire, so drink lots of water the day before and the day of your session. Divide your body weight in pounds by half and drink that many ounces of water.

You will be weighed and measured before your first session and after your sixth session. Three sessions a week are recommended for best and fastest results. This is a wonderful, relaxing way to increase weight loss without adding more excercise or adventuring into extreme dieting.

Because body fat stores are being broken down, some slight detox can occur. An added benefit is that the infrared heat increases circulation to the tissues of the body, offering relief from arthritis or exertion from exercise. A Body Melt is also a great way to warm and loosen the muscles before a Massage.

So come relax and melt away the pounds at The Body Wrap Shop!

Computer versus Hand Calligraphy Addressing

We don't receive as many calls as we used to about which method of addressing is correct. Crane's bluebook speaks of either hand addressing or hand calligraphy.

We personally feel that unless the hand of someone close to you addresses your invitations.....then, the difference between hand and computer calligraphy is a moot point.

Beautiful fonts are ALL hand drawn, or copied from hand drawn fonts in a program called "FONTOGRAPHY"....as in fonts that are no longer being made because the lead foundry that made the font is no longer in business. Letterpress printers often use older books from which to have the fonts remade in metal by copying the fonts and using the above program to recreate it.

The beauty of computer calligraphy addressing allows us the freedom to address your invitations in the same font used for the typography. We, then, also often design a co-ordinating map complete with the same font(s) so that the invitation pieces and the map and envelopes match.

This much less expensive method of addressing has become very popular. Most of our suppliers offer it for $2.00 or more per set.

If you don't make a purchase with us, you may have us address your invitations for $1.00 per envelope set and a setup fee of $25.00. We will send you the setup guides for how to organize this information and also the appropriate wedding etiquette on addressing.

With a purchase of invitations from us, we count 20 percent of your sale toward the calligraphy fees giving you added value to your purchase that is much higher in use of your budget and your time when everything is ready to be put together for mailing on pickup.

It gives us great joy to see a bride through this process and take the anxiety out of this part of their wedding. By setting time frames for addresses, we become the "organization" who requires everyone to meet deadlines...e.g. the bride has to have this from all family members, and she is not usually delayed by individuals who can get their lists done when a deadline is set by a third party, US, to get the job done.

Each guest feels very special when they receive such a lovely invitation. Some indicate that they have rarely seen their names written so beautifully.

Come see our new baby soon......our redesigned website for more on fonts, and calligraphy, to make your envelopes look beautiful.

Next: Can't I do the addressing myself just as easily?

Summer beauty tips 2006

No doubt that a golden tan is ideal for a June wedding. So start now with getting in touch with your local tanning salon or lying out. Take every precaution...

1) Use sunblock in all tanning situations for protection.
2) Build on the tan, go several time for very short periods to see how your skin tans ie: turns red, red to brown, just brown but peels.
3) Let you makeup artist know if you are going to get darker before the wedding day.
4) Your out of town guests, should understand if you are unable to get too much sun before the big day.

I hope this helps you think about how to help create the ideal look you've always dreamed of. Email me with any questions at taniadejesus@hotmail.com

A Stress Free Wedding - Let a Professional Handle The Details

Hawaii Bride & Groom Magazine - Spring/Summer 2006 Issue
By Janice M. T. Bachiller of Wedding Planner 808 - page 38

A wedding planner is someone who plans a full service wedding to simple tasks and duties to include research, planning, consulting and coordination as well as any assistance required in the developing process of a wedding. The planner is a person who is assisting throughout the planning process that can start as early as 18 to 12 months prior to your wedding date.

A wedding coordinator is someone who is responsible for organizing different and diverse elements into the coordination of a wedding day. Furthermore, the wedding coordinator is someone who coordinates the services of all of your wedding vendors to ensure the management of your contracts are executed. A coordinator is a person who implements your wedding day plans and executes the contracts between your and your vendors. Coordination of your wedding day can start as soon as all of your vendors and contracts are situated and can be hired anywhere from 6 months up to 2 weeks prior to your wedding date.

A wedding consultant is a professional and experienced advisor who charges a fee for providing advice or services requested to plan or coordinate a wedding. A wedding consultant can be anyone who can be professional, experienced, respectable and reputable in the wedding industry that can provide a service that can be executed through a contract. A professional consultant should be one who can provide a clear and understanding contract of services to be provided between both parties in exchange for a fee.

A wedding planner, coordinator or consultant can almost act as a coupleᄀᆭs personal assistant, taking care of as many, or as few, preparations as you deem necessary. In addition, the wedding planner may also have a network of regular suppliers at his or her disposal, through which some cost savings can be made.

Professional wedding services are available to assist you with almost every aspect of your wedding preparations from printing the invitations to arranging quotes and bookings, as well as decorating the venue for the reception. Professional cooks, bakers, cake decorators, venue decorators, dressmakers, drivers, florists, hair stylists, make-up artists, a master of ceremonies, DJᄀᆭs, musicians, photographers, printers, stationers, travel agents, videographers and banquet help can also be employed to assist with preparations or to contribute to your dayᄀᆭs requirements.

Before you decide on which would benefit you most, you should always do your research by doing the following:
トᆱ Inquire for Services. Inquire with several different planners or coordinators for the type of services they provide.
トᆱ What type of Service do I need? Complete a Questionnaire for Services or a form that will help the planner or coordinator help you decide what type of service would suffice for your wedding day plans.
トᆱ Get a price Quote. Request for a price quote and the services that they will provide for you from several planners or coordinators based on what you would require for your wedding day.
トᆱ Request for an initial consultation. Meet with several planners or coordinators to insure that all of your questions have been answered.

Now that you have done your research, you will be able to decide on what type of services are needed, the type of professionals required to create your wedding day, and the costs required to produce a successful, organized and stress free wedding that will be ᄀᄃA day to remember!ᄀᄄ

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER

Now that youメre taking that huge step into marriage, there are a few things that you may want to know about your partnerナ

MEN are like microwaves ヨ theyメre turned on (and sometimes done) rather quickly. Men are visual creatures, so invest in that sexy piece of lingerie (as my friend says, モif love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?ヤ)

WOMEN are like crock pots ヨ they take time to heat up for those juices to start flowing. Women enjoy partners who take the time to allow them to heat up ヨ by the technique of foreplay. Partners who take those first 20-30 minutes slow ヨ allowing their woman to get fired up ヨ will be greatly pleased with the end result.

And nothing beats communication ヨ either verbally, by sound or through touch. Youメll be spending the rest of your lives together ヨ take every opportunity to get to know each otherナboth in and out of the bedroom!

Who Wore the First Wedding Ring?

Well, here goes! I love jewelry, and I love writing -- but this is my first attempt at blogging. So please bear with me -- I'll try not to bore you to death!

Jewelry has been around for ages, but different cultures look at it differently. I became curious about the Wedding Ring. Do all cultures use them? When did they first come into use? Who wore the first wedding ring? Did Adam present one to Eve?

I haven't found out yet if all cultures use them, but I was fascinated to learn how long they've been around.

The "Betrothal Ring" used by Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, was adopted by early Christians in the second century; and later evolved into the wedding ring. (I'm afraid Eve didn't get one!) The "Engagement Ring", set with a precious gem, came into use in the Middle Ages. Our beloved diamond attained popularity in the 15th century; and became customary in the 18th century.

FYI: In the middle and latter part of the Roman Civilization, the law governed which type of ring you could wear: gold rings were reserved for those of civil or military rank; later extended to those who were freeborn citizens. Those who had been freed (from slavery) were allowed to wear silver rings; and slaves could only wear iron rings.

Location, location, location

I always love a beautiful location... but with that said it is not the location that is the most important. I mean who can resist including those amazing mountains, or that beautiful skyline in a photo? Yes a lovely venue lends much to the ambience and it's always so nice to have lots of options for where to take photos. But in the end it is those photos of you and your guests that will keep all those wonderful wedding day memories alive.

Recently I had a wedding in a location that was difficult. By that I mean the Bride had asked me not to really include any of the venue in the images. She was on a very tight budget and had to make do with the Club House at her apartment complex. I knew going in that I would need to shoot tighter than usual, to really focus on the emotion and keep my eye on those guests! Now she did have some lovely table settings so between the beautiful table and the wonderful energy and all of us working together, we produced photos that made her so very happy.

There is nothing like sitting with a Couple as they view their proofs and see their joy. To hear that it's just the way they always wanted their wedding day to be must be the best thing I can hear.

I really enjoyed that wedding and the challenge of creating images that would make them happy was the very best part. Yes it was harder work, and yes I spent a ton of time in Photoshop to get those backgrounds perfect, but was it worth it? You bet, the bride's smile said it all!

Take care,

Tasha

"Honey, I'm just not in the mood."

Have you ever told your lover, モHoney, Iメm just not in the mood.ヤ Are you guilty of saying this more often than not? If so, you could be losing more than just your night of intimacy. Studies show that the famous saying モuse it or lose itヤ applies to oneメs sex drive. Just as exercise is the key to maintaining fitness, having sex on a regular basis is the best way to maintain sexual capacity. Simply (or bluntly) put, the more you engage in モactivities,ヤ the more youメll want such モactivities.ヤ Remember, a healthy sexual appetite is important to a successful marriage.

Ceremony

It's true that a wedding ceremony will usually last an hour and the guests will spend more time at the reception, but donメt forget that the ceremony site is also the place where many of pictures and video will be taken. You may want to choose the places where you are going to take most of your pictures and concentrate your best decorations on those places.

Consider whether you can have someone to take your decorations from the church to the reception. This could save you a considerable amount of money if there is enough time and people for the relocation.

Deciding on including map/direction card!

The decision about whether or not to include a map or a direction card is not really new to weddings. We frequently design a map to match the cardstock of the wedding invitations selected, and can readily accommodate the bride who made a purchase elsewhere, and now finds she needs to include one.

The reason so many brides forget this item is that her parents guests to their wedding most likely did not include many out of town guests.

We design this piece to look as much like the invitations as possible. On a custom design, it is a lay-up, we just make certain we order more stock, and make it all match, color of ink, font, etc.

For invitations from one of our dealer albums, we match their cardstock, and the font and ink color as closely as possible and in most instances, exactly. This is a little easier if we do the whole package as we customize the dealer design with our own typesetting ensuring that the package's ensemble is cohesive.

We take the opportunity to include your typewritten text and wrap it on the back of the map card drawn from your hand drawing. You don't have to draw it to scale. We include landmarks, like the Arch, the airport, etc. or the stadium depending on the locations of hotels, etc. Our map is not drawn to scale as we keep the size to the standard 4.25 by 6 card. We also provide maps in 5 inch squares and larger, a tea length map to match the invitation or larger, legend size map to match the legend invitation.....a longer and wider card than a tea length design.

The thoughtfulness of including this one piece gives your guests help in finding their way to your ceremony and reception. It also ensures that not getting lost, you won't have guests arriving late or frazzled to your ceremony.

Most brides put this off to the last minute. If you print a map on a piece of paper and insert it, make sure you fold it, as the copier powder will rub off on your invitations.

One added comment.....hotel accommodation information is usually put on the back of the map with the written directions.

Feel free to write or call us anytime regarding your needs.

How many invitations should I order?

Many brides choose an invitation, and the next order of planning is to decide on the quantity.

The following formula works:

add up the total number of guests including each single person's guest and divide this by 2 to give a total.

Add a total of 25 extras for persons that each side of the family may have forgotten, and round it up by 25 as most suppliers insist on ordering in increments of 25.

Thus, if your total number of persons is 286, the quantity will be 143, add 25 to this, which comes to 168, rounded up, the quantity will then be 175 on the order.

While proofs are being made on your order, you may up your count on the signoff. We adjust the quantity on our supplier's signoff forms, and then revise your purchase order.

So, we do our best to take as much angst out of discerning this number as possible so that the final count is NOT needed to begin the purchase process.

Read BEFORE you sign your contracts!

Aloha,

As you know, I am a Video DJ or VJ for short. This means that I play MTV style Music Videos and project them on large video screens. So not only do I play the music throughout the entire event, I play the Music Video as well.

At most events, there is usually a slide show. Sometimes this is professionally done, sometimes a friend or family member will produce it. Because of the software advancements and use of digital cameras, it has become increasingly more common for people to produce these slide shows on their own.

Recently, I had the misfortune of dealing with a videography company hired for a friendメs wedding ceremony and reception. This videography company was hired prior to me and charged my friend for setup and use of a screen and projector. Now since I have screens and projectors that I use for the entire event, itメs really unnecessary for the videographer to setup for a 10 minute presentation. I can play the CD, DVD, or even VHS tape through my system.

The sad reality is this: The videographer did not want to reimburse my friend for the screen and projector charge, afterall it's in the contract. This was an additional $450.00 charge. Even though he didnメt set up anything, he still charged her. I spoke with the videographer and he refused to offer her any money back. To me that is unethical and immoral. Needless to say, I will not be referring this videographer to any of my clients.

So my message today is: if you are going to hire a videographer to produce your slide show, get 2 quotes. One that includes production with the screen and projector and one that is for production only. And finally, READ THE FINE PRINT IN YOUR CONTRACT!

Thank you and I hope that you find my blogging helpful.

The toughest part of the wedding planning?

Making out a guest list! It decides the space, and the budget. Not just for the reception but also for wedding invitations, favors, and even ceremony programs.

Why is it so hard?

Because in making a list, depending on these two issues, space, and budget, someone(s) may have to be removed from the list.

The sooner this is begun, and worked on together with both families, the sooner the address list gets done, and the sooner everyone faces the budget required.

The number of guests invited is one of the largest determinants in general for most brides re: their budget, and necessary ancillary items required....e.g. invitations, wedding programs, etc.

My apologies if this is redundant. This is our first blog. It looks as if we are to put a new title on each one we post.

Happy planning! We love what we do.

Bachelorette Parties!

Bachelorette Parties are usually the responsibility of the bridal party. Remember that this is supposed to be a fun night for the bride, not a night of humiliation. This is her night to forget about the caterers, florists, and guest lists, and remember what great girl friends she has. This can be as extravagent or as simple as you would like to make it. A bachelorette party can range anywhere from G Rated to G string. The main thing is FUN, FUN, FUN!!!

Your Ceremony Site

Before you start your planning, visit the church or your ceremony site to find out if there are any restrictions or requirements on decorations they allow at the site. Some churches do not allow ribbon or fabric (e.g., tulle) to be draped from pew to pew, blocking center aisle access due to fire department requirements. Please consider the style of the church/ceremony site itself, because while some are wonderfully decorated others are more simple.

Think about how the lighting will impact your wedding. If your church has large windows, weddings taking place in the noon hours will benefit from it because large windows will let more light in but no direct sunlight on the guests. If you decide to use candles, they would be more effective in the evening hours. If your dream is to hold your wedding outdoors, think about booking a lush landscape with plenty of room for your guests or an intimate garden for a more romantic setting.

When your wedding day is close to a major holiday, inquire whether the church or your wedding site will be decorated, as it may be possible to incorporate the existing decorations into the style of your wedding. I would also recommend you to ask precisely what kind of decorations will be done, if any, during the week of your wedding. You do not want to end up 10 days before wedding and the church looks completely opposite to your wedding theme.

How do you find the time????

Between going to work, cooking dinner, rushing off to run errands, driving the kids to various practices, cleaning the house and making sure you catch American Idol (on Tuesdays AND Wednesdays), there is very little time in between for romance and crazy, sexy, long-lasting love making, right??? After educating women of the various Passion products, many women ask me "between your husband, your baby, your job (attorney) and being a Passion Consultant, where do you find the time to have sex and be romantic" My answer is . . . "YOU DON'T FIND TIME, YOU MAKE TIME!"
Everyday, we look at our schedule and our to-do list and it seems, there is not enough time in a day to complete everything. As a result, we rush around all day and night. When we finally rest our head on our pillow, the last thing we want to do is exert more energy to have sex!! Am I right ladies???
Well, here is my tip for you. Who says you have to have sex in the bed, at night, before you go to sleep. Remember when you first started dating your man, you would have sex anywhere at anytime, even for a "quickie." Why did it have to stop when the kids arrived or after being together for several years. I recommend couples to take back their spontaneity attitude. Be creative!
There are little things that can be done with minimum effort, but can have maximum gains in romance. Here are a few tips:
1) Consider setting your alarm for 15 minutes earlier and have an early morning session. You will definitely be starting your day on the "right side of the bed."
2) Take a shower together. It doesn't have to be a sexual thing, just a place where the two of you can communicate without distractions. Think about it, the both of you are in a small area, with no kids, no phones, no TV, basically no distractions. While in the shower, talk about your day while asking him to scrub your back. Our bath wash with pheromones is always a nice aroma to fill the shower, while washing away the days stresses.
3) Leave little voice messages on his phone. I'm not talking about a voicemail which reminds your lover to do errands. I'm talking about a sweet message, reminding your lover how much you love them or how much they mean to you. The trick is to call when you know the voicemail will answer. This message should be short, sweet and direct to the point . . . "Hi honey. I just wanted to let you know that I love you with all my heart and can't wait to see you tonight. Love you, bye." When your lover hears this message, he will instantly smile and will welcome you home with warm kisses and hugs.
The basic theory is, romance does not have to be a fancy dinner, candles everywhere, flowers, cards and candy. I'd rather have small romantic tid-bits every other day, than large romantic episodes once or twice a year (Valentine's Day and your anniversary). By filling your day with small ounces of romance, you'll find yourself falling in love with your lover all over again and finding time to hug, kiss and make wonderful love. Remember, even "quickies" can be romantic. Be creative.
For extra "feel good" add some of my products to the mix!! Enjoy, and see you next week.

Frequently Asked Questions

After a year of doing Passion Parties, I've been asked hundreds of questions, relating to sex, love, romance and everything in between. As a result, I thought it would be helpful to all of the new brides to share some of my thoughts on the most frequently asked questions. Check in every week, because my plan is to cover one new topic a week. If you have a specific topic, you'd like me to cover, feel free to drop a note and I'll try to get to it the next week.

What's new in wedding invitations

and at Lilley Printing Co?

We are delighted to have added our designer contemporary originals to the photo gallery in our enhanced listing along with a sneak preview of our new advertisement for Saint Louis Bride and Groom's May 2006 issue.

WOW APPEAL!!!!

Our latest product line to add to our traditional invitations is the Envelopments dealership. Envelopments allows us over 10,000 original designs. We give our client our guidance in using this tool to custom create her own design components fused with font(s) and ink and type of printing process.

We take you through our ordering process, and our PDF file or faxed proofs.

Our designer is working away on our supportive, informationally based, and custom easy to use NEWLY designed website today. We are praying for no glitches as I type away here for putting up in place of our current page which will become history shortly.

A preview in graphics, graphic design and informational writing of what is to come.... includes two sites owned by us that will be merged.....shopping online is available, and our clients will be able to move from this site, back to our main site.

The site's information is an accumulation of our Wedding Vow Newsletters edited for our clients' perusal along with far more information than we could impart in one or two newsletters.

The new site will allow clients to view the latest newsletter online, and to sign up for both receiving newsletters online, and to register for a $500 drawing toward custom wedding invitations. Specials will be posted monthly. New products will be listed so clients may view them whenever they want to.

With the expansion of the site from one crowded page by our outside developer to an easier to read format with appropriate categories, our clients will be able to get a good education in what they really need to know as well as what they want to know before they make a purchase.

As we wrote for this site, we edited every article, and then, we added additional vital information. As our clients read here, we hope they will put our sites in their favorites or bookmarked and return and glimpse our new site(s)...yes....sites.... as it emerges and changes over the next two weeks.

We are both www.lilleyprinting.com and www.lilleyprinting.invitations.com, our online store. This second site is up, and you may view Encore Studios invitations from this siteright now, and gain helpful hints for wedding invitations from this second site of ours...remember..."the two shall be one"...

Our new site is springy and dressed in sherbet colors.

Our goal was to take the anxiety out of making a purchase or in planning their purchase by empowering our clients with all they need and want and more!!!!!

Budget planning for this one aspect alone has been presented as a difficulty by our bridal clientele. Each morning, as the owner, I get up, and think of more information and how to provide it to remove this anxiety and worry from our brides and their families.

Well, as the owner, I am going back to the drawing board to look over the shoulder of my developer, and tomorrow, look back to see what we have to say about what we feel is the toughest aspect of your entire wedding. Bet you can't guess what it is!!!

All from the owner,

Mrs. "L"

The toughest aspect of the wedding planning we have seen brides experience?

Making the wedding guest list. Why? Because without an unlimited budget, and an unlimited amount of space, it may mean removing some guests from the list....and having to remove people from the list we like and cannot accommodate for any or all or other reasons that space and budget is going to cause one or more people emotional strain. Part of planning a wedding means that as two families come together that a lot of people's feelings need to be considered. Deciding the guest list is a VITAL factor to the budget for many items for the wedding. And, of course, it affects the quantity of invitations required. Getting the list of names of married and single persons clearly defined even without having rec'd all of the addresses to go with them sets the stage for quantities for many items or the planning thereof from everything from invitations, dinners, favors, and even wedding programs. One of the things we like to do when ordering from one of our album dealerships is to have the quantity signature for increase or decrease on the signoff sheet. It is far LESS expensive to add 25 to the total, than to re-order. EVERY SINGLE album supplier charges a reprint as a new order, and the cost is prohibitive!!!!

What did we do to our bridesclub listing over the weekend? We added pictures of a few of our designer originals and some from our ENVELOPMENTS collection.

Look back for what we love about what we do? Mrs. L(illey)

Leaning Tower of Cake

OK, here's a funny story with a happy ending, and a tip to Brides:

A few weekends ago, I was coordinating a Ceremony (plus parts of the Reception). It was an elegant, elaborate affair with over 300 guests and many special details. As the day began to unfold, things were falling neatly into place (bonus: I was blessed with an especially lovely set of clients)... the wedding party arrived as planned, the photographers were exceptionally organized and personable, our floral caterer was prompt and creative and the timeline was right on target. I love it when a plan comes together.

So, about the time photos were wrapping up, an unforseen architectual glich occured. See, this wedding had not one formal cake, but two. The second cake was picked up by family and transported approximatly 60 miles to the site. Here's the lesson: Tell your Consultant about ALL your little details.... The Bride opted to handle this detail on her own (without dropping me the contact # for the bakery). Unfortunately, as the days got increasingly busy leading up to the wedding, she forgot to call and confirm the pick-up time for this elaborately stacked/tired Norwegian-style confection. As a result, the cake WAS NOT READY when the appointed family member dropped by the bakery to pick it up , just hours before the Ceremony. In a panic, the bake-staff quickly assembled this tower of cream and cake. Now, this delicate, hastily built, very TALL cream cake was being driven (by a man), on a sunny day, to the Ceremony-Reception site... do you see where I'm going with this? Thankfully, it arrived intact. However, once placed on the cake table, it developed a decided lean... and just kept slowly sliding, like a famous tower in Italy, built on a soft foundation. Happy Ending: With some emergency culinary doctoring (bamboo skewers are a good thing to have on hand), a pastry distaster was averted (thank you, Hollin, for taking the lead on solving this one).

So Brides, remember, your Consultant is your friend, your buddy. Tell her all your little nuptial secrets. You don't give up control of your creative vision, but you do get your to have your cake and eat it too!

Honeymoon Thoughts

Your Honeymoon only happens once, so make it special. That does not have to mean expensive...go with what pleases you both, whether it be camping out, or cruising in Europe.

We have learned some things while assisting hundreds of honeymooners during the past 19 years. Here goes.

1. Plan your travel about 9 months in advance.

2. Think about the cost. If you over-extend yourselves, you
risk hardship later on.

3. Choose a reputable travel agency, and find their best planner.

4. Ask if they offer a "bridal registry" so your guests can help pay for your travel, rather than giving you another toaster.

5. Condiser a Honeymoon Cruise. The advantages are numerous: Your "hotel room" moves with you, so you are not struggling to pack and unpack, check in and out of rooms, and hassle through airports. Also, your dining is included, and the meals will surely be better than you'd find elsewhere. Top rate entertainment is also included. So,a cruise is almost always a better value than traditional land touring. Plus, the itineraries include a wide variety of ports-of-call, which means you will quickly add cool places to your "been there" list.

6. Does you honeymoon have to start right after the wedding? No! If the trip you want is not available on that date, or is less expensive "off season", consider going later on, or even before the wedding! We see that work well all the time.

Frequently Asked Questions

I've recently been answering a lot of email inquiries regarding our Music Video DJ service. So what I want to do is answer some of these questions.

Q. What is a music video?
A. It's the video or picture that compliments the song being played. All of our music videos are MTV style and edited for playback to mature audiences.

Q. What if there is no video to accompany the song?
A. There are certain songs that were produced prior to the boom of MTV. If there is no video, we will usually show video of your guests in attendance or guests dancing on the dance floor. This is also true if we deem the edited version of the video too explicit to show to family members.

Q. Will you play music that I provide you?
A. Certainly. I only ask that we be able to preview your selections prior to the performance. There are several reasons for this; suffice to say that a professional will always review material given to him/her.

Q. I don't want the music too loud / lights too dark / etc.
A. We will always accommodate you and your wants. During the pre-event consultation, we will go over these details and I will consult with the banquet captain, caterer, photographer, videographer, etc. to insure these details are taken care of.

Thanks again for reading my ramblings and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Gifts for Out-of-Towners

If you want to make gift bags for your out-of-town guests to receive upon check-in at the hotel, here are some ideas of items to include:
- Bottled water
- Snacks and munchies
- Fresh whole fruit
- Local map
- Travel candle
- Bath salts
- Souvenir from local area

In general, theme your goodies to your area, especially if your guests have never been here. Give them a good taste of the Northwest! They've traveled near and far, and are ready to relax and enjoy the weekend just as much as you.

Most hotels will charge a nominal delivery fee per bag/basket to take it to each guestroom, so make sure you ask about the procedures.

Check the DETAILS!

Hi Ladies, Congratulations on your engagement! Have fun planning your wedding, but remember to check the details.

I recently went into a Florist Shop to pick up some flowers as a thank you gift and in front of me was a mother picking up her daughter's Bridal Bouquet, on the day of the wedding. It was not at all what she had pictured in her mind! The woman at the cash register kept telling her over and over again that "they had talked about the flowers over the phone and she was sure that this was what the mother of the bride had ordered."

It did not look to me like what she had ordered, as a passer-by. The flowers were white roses and dark purple carnations. The mother of the bride kept stating that she ordered white roses and pink lilies...

I do not know how it turned out, as I purchased my bouquet and left, but I do remember feeling upset for that mother and her daughter, on this day of all days.

Ladies...check the details! Ask the florist to show you a picture of the bouquet, or better yet, if you have one take a picture into the florist. AND DO NOT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN WHAT YOU WANT!

Remember this with any other plans for your day....Caterers can show you a menu and even let you taste what you have picked out for your meal. Printers should let you "proof" ALL of the printed items you are purchasing for you wedding. Photographers can show you portfolios of their work. Musicians can show you the titles of the music they will play.

Keeping an eye on the little details will help make your day as special as you want it to be, hopefully without unexpected challenges on the day of your wedding.

Jay Whaley, who has been teaching jewelry making at UCSD La Jolla for over 21 years, now heads up the Wedding Ring Workshop located in Hillcrest, San Diego.
The first few couples who have consulted with him on their ideas have been thrilled by his calm assurances that they can make their desired design with their own hands in less than a day (with his guidance, of course!).

Grandma couldn't be there, but my memory album spoke volumes!

Recently I heard a beautiful story that was really uplifting and let me know I am in the right business! A gal and I sat down to make a very detailed memory album of her wedding not only for her to keep of course, but to share with her Grandmother who was not able to make the wedding due to poor health.

A month later she calls me to tell me her grandmother had tears in her eyes, not only did she love the pictures, but she felt like she made it to the wedding reading all the journaling along with each photo and loved that we had pre-decorated a page to add a large photo of her and her granddaughter looking at the album together titled "Long Distance Love".

Your photos and stories are priceless......

Why Video

If you're still debating as to how important video is for your wedding day, read this insert that's posted on the WEVA site (www.weva.com):

Why Choose Video?

Professional videography saves and protects life's most precious and beautiful moments--as they actually happened. And what is more important to hold precious than the sights and sounds from the most important day of your life--your wedding day! Because the event goes by so quickly, capturing all of the activities, your ceremony and reception, on video will mean your wedding will be preserved for you and your family now, and most importantly...for all the generations ahead.

How important is a professionally-produced wedding video? Suppose a friend told you they had in one hand a book of professional photos of the day your grandparents were married, and in their other hand a professionally-produced video of that same day, in full color, with stereo sound, but that you could only choose one to view and keep as a family heirloom. Which would you choose? Today, thanks to new developments in digital technology and the advanced skills of professional videographers, your choices in professional wedding videography are unlimited!

Only video (and now DVD) will allow everyone to relive your wedding day as it actually happenedヒto see you walk down the aisle, to hear your voices as you exchange vows and rings, to hear and see the toasts, the music, your first dance at the reception...and the chance to preserve the complete story of your wedding. This wasn't possible in the past.

Even today, you have only one chance to be sure your wedding day is professionally captured....just one chance to be sure all of the emotions, the love and laughter are preserved for you to share again and again. Today professional videographers have become as natural a part of the wedding as the photographer.

Money, budgets vs pleasant coverage

So many have addressed the price of the photo service. So few have practiced complete 'customer service'. Here, I enjoy using the tools to capture the images best possible to support a couple on their special day. Creating while being a good support or servant to the needs of the special event allows more satisfaction than counting the pennies. So, Bill & Jackie of jghphoto1 would rather concentrate on image capturing of quality than counting. This past 2006 Summer and Fall in Midland, Texas. However will be returning for 2007 to the Pacific NW. What can I say; my Texas residence/workplace has a swimming pool and 40 x 60 Free standing commercial studio - one must work... 'and play' - the change of atmosphere at the Texas location for studying, growing, challenging of creative self. Would you believe with not only cameras but sculpting and painting? Yep.
Guess what - we have arrived - March 2007 moved into our new home in Skagit County on some acreage, and leased the Texas one for now. Now must build another studio so will be working out of the home this year until done..

Have you ever wondered what happened to customer service?

Have you ever sat down in a nice fancy restraunt with your significant other with romantic music in the background, beautiful decor, white linen napkins, and then no silverware? You order your food and tell the waiter of the missing silverware and he replys with a happy voice,"Sure I'll get that!" Your server brings out your food and she asks,"Is there anything else I can get for you?" You reply,"Some silverware, please". She doesn't say anything, turns around, and goes to get some silverware. When she returns she slams one fork (you needed two complete sets) onto the table and hurries away! You both drop your jaw in disbelief! Your waiter rushes over to see the problem and you tell him what just happened. He snickers and says,"Oh, she's always like that!"
Unique Weddings~Wedding Planners will never leave out excellent customer service. If you need help with one item or numerous items, we will always be professional and happy to serve you!

How You Can Help Get Those Photos

Aloha!

This week I thought I would share with you some little tips that I have given to each of my bridal parties just before we start shooting. I have taken the ideas from what was going on when the photo was taken, how I approached the experience, and many other factors!

*Tip #1 -The first thing that I say to my brides as soon as I am at the location is:

"Relax. It's your wedding day, the worst part, the planning, it's all over. This is your day and I want to capture the spell-bound look in your eyes, NOT the worry that we all know is going on underneath!"

I can't imagine the things that are swarming through the bride's head days, hours, even minutes before the ceremony begins, and there really is no way for anyone to know UNTIL they, themselves are the bride. All I know is when a bride's mind is somewhere else, it will effect the perfect images that she wants to look at when it is all OVER!

*Tip #2 - Remember to SMILE!! :)

Even though you think this is a lame tip, it is surprising how many brides forget to smile! It's not so much that they forget, more that they aren't going with Tip #1. Sometimes, a good thing to do is just say, "Wait. One second." and take a look around. Look at your family and friends and the smiles that are plastered to their faces. Go over to a parent or close friend and just tell them how happy you are that they are there with you and how much you love them. Smile. If you are taking photos with your groom. Take a moment to just look into his eyes and realize that at that moment, you are completely happy.

If you are your family, friends, and groom don't have a "sappy" relationship, then maybe ask Dad how much he'll love you after he sees the bill; stick your tongue out at a close friend who you may share a silly, child-like relationship with; or give your groom a little pinch on the toosh! :) SMILE!

Whatever does it for you, whatever brings that chuckle, giggle, sly smile, or even a gafaw, DO IT!

*Tip #3 - And this is one that is a "if you can and are willing to do it, it might help". Spray that hair till nothing, not even a little itty-bitty strand will move!

I know, I hate it when I have too much hairspray in my hair, but I hate it even more when I look great in a photo except for the GIANT chunk of hair that flew across my face!

Maybe don't spray it till it's practically cement. Maybe have it a little-itty-bitty wet just for the photos. Not, Robert Palmer "Addicted to Love" video vixen hair. Just something so those wasps aren't making you look like you have static electricity.

Yes, I could PhotoShop those strands out, those litte wispy ones. Not the chunks though.

So I'll keep an eye out for them and push them out of your face as much as I can. Hey, maybe it'll be a non-gusty day. Hopefully there will be a little breeze (cause that dress may get hot) but no wind storms please.

Let's see. I was going to make Tip #4 be something about a good lipstick that doesn't rub off and stays bright and non-running mascara, but you'll have that covered. Why not this:

*Tip #4: Watch out for those may be quenching their thirsts (and I'm not talking about Soda and Juice)! :)

Yeah, the bride and groom are allowed to one or two to calm the nerves, but beware of over-doing it!

Standing through procession is nerve-wreaking enough! Walking down the aisle is hard enough when your knees are wobbling!

You're all asking how this effects photos. Well, if you and your friends tend to get a little wild with even a little sip of libations, think of what might happen in front of the camera. There will probably be a lot of great, funny shots of you and the girls! A last "Look how Kooky we are before blank's wedding!", but what about those soft group shots of all of you looking so pretty in the dresses that took you FOREVER to pick find in everyone's size!

All I'm saying is take it easy before the photos and ceremony, then go nuts! I'll make sure to get the crazy shots on the dance floor! :)

How about one more,

*Tip #5 - And this can either be the easiest or the hardest of the day.

Make sure everyone you want to take a photo with is there!

Give your photographer a list ahead of time with people/shots that you HAVE TO GET! And although I will try and learn all your names over the course of the night, it may be easier to just give a list with "Joe's Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, 5 Brothers, etc". If you have both sets of grandparents on both sides, maybe a "Grandma Laura, Grandpa Fred, etc" might help, too.

Oh, and make sure THEY know you want a photo with them! :)
It's always a challenge finding that ONE person that you want to take a photo with, so hopefully if they are aware of what they are needed for, they will keep an eye and ear out.

Alright then.

I'll come up with more stuff as I think of it. Since I'll be shooting a wedding this weekend, it should be no problem to come up with more ideas! :)

We're new to this

We're new, not only to blogging, but to our business. That said, we'd love to hear from brides-to-be about what kinds of invitations they like, and what kind of reception party favors and decorations are hot these days. We've been married for 16 years. Sixteen years ago we had a very small wedding and reception that we paid for by ourselves on very meager earnings. We'd love to be able to build some dialogue - maybe an online focus group - who can help us highlight and offer the products brides want.

Take time out for yourself...

Aloha,

Thanks again for reading my ramblings. Today's blog deals with you. As I'm sure you're well aware of, planning a wedding and reception is very time consuming and somewhat stressful. It's hard work but it's also very rewarding. I'd like to share a secret with you. It's really simple but very effective. Take time to reward yourself. You've worked hard and invested hundreds of hours in your special celebration. Take a few hours to relax at a spa, get a manicure, a massage, or enjoy a show. Whatever your release is... take the time to relax and enjoy. You're worth it so indulge.

Until next time, aloha and mahalo.

Your Fairytale Wedding Look...

Congratulations, Ladies!

Planning your wedding can be one of the most exciting (and at times stressful) events of your life. Many brides spend days, even months, seeking out the perfect gown and accessories and bridesmaidsメ dresses. Most of you wouldnメt even remotely consider waiting until the last minute to pick out those things, and yet thatメs exactly what many do when it comes to getting your skin healthy and planning the make-up to go with it!

Choosing your wedding makeup is as important as choosing your gown. Your look will be captured in photos forever so it's important to put on your best face with no mistakes. After all, you are the star, the very center of attention on your wedding day. Why leave your look to chance?

#1 major piece of advice: Don't try a new look on your wedding day.
Steer clear of trends and opt for a natural look that enhances your best features. A good rule of thumb is to look at yourself and ask if you'd still think you looked pretty when you look back 15 or 20 years from now. It is important to look like yourself on your wedding day...you at your absolute most beautiful. Don't try to change your whole look just for that day. True beauty comes from the passion in your eyes, and the personality and character in your face. Your makeup should make those thingsナyour inner beautyナstand out. People should say モwow, she looks amazing!ヤ not モwow, look at her makeup!ヤ

Plan ahead and practice your look many times. I would LOVE to sit down with you to help you recognize your unique features and most beautiful traits, and to teach you how to bring out your best and reflect yourself - your personality and everything inside you - with simple make-up techniques.

Keep checking in for more tips on bringing out your best for your wedding day.

I hope your wedding is as beautiful as every bride dreams!

Have you ever carmelized a lemon?

If you haven't, then you need to give this technique a try!

Pre-heat a non-stick skillet at medium-high for about 5 minutes. Give it a light drizzle of oil (no PAM or aerosol type sprays please!) and then arrange your pounded chicken breast halves and one lemon cut in half crosswise with the cut side down in the skillet. QUICK TIP: Never pre-heat a skillet over anything more than med-high heat. Water dropped onto the surface should "dance", not evaporate (too hot) or just sit there (too cold).

QUICK TIP: When you're pounding chicken breasts to 1/2 inch or so, season with salt and pepper THEN place in a plastic baggies with about 1 teaspoon of water. Press all the air out of the bag before pounding. This technique will incorporate the seasoning into the meat vs. seasoning after pounding AND the water in the bag will help to keep the meat from tearing.

Cook for 6 to 8 minutes or until the chicken is no longer pink, turning the chicken at least once during the cook time.

Remove the chicken and the lemon (which will be "blackened") from the skillet and set aside.

You can do SOOO much now from this step. One of the easiest is to reduce the heat to medium, leave the drippings from the oil and lemon in the skillet, and add a chopped an onion and pressed garlic. Sautee about 3 to 4 minutes (you don't want the garlic or onion to darken, just sweat), then serve the lemon infused chicken and onions over rice. I also have a great Pampered Chef recipe for a Quick Chicken Primavera Risotto working from this first step. Email me and I'll be happy to send you the recipe card!
