Tis the season to throw a party

I love this time of year, families getting together for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and every other occasion to stuff yourself senseless. The weather becomes cooler as the dishes become warmer. In our house, my husband gets his own pumpkin pie, it's become tradition. A couple for the family, and one just for him. It can become a madhouse of trying to get all the dishes made, and everything cleaned up to be able to enjoy the holidays with your family and friends. Let us do the cooking, we do this for a living, and you can spend the time with your family and not doing dishes.

Color, Fashion and Glamour

Well, I have to say, Iメm inspired. Recently I spent the weekend at the Fall Brideメs Club Expo at the Tacoma Dome. The displays were artful, the vendors personable and the clientele delightful. New ideas in floral, fashion, and entertaining abounded. As I have a love for art & color, I was particularly aware of how color was employed for a variety of effects. There were rich chocolates complimenting glamorous gold. Peacock blue was a delightful surprise; with feathers gracefully arcing out of floral arrangements. Deep eggplant added subtlety to vibrant chartreuse & lipstick pink. Expectedly, autumn hues dominated the day, but candlelight added ambiance, crystal sparkled and lilies dazzled. This was a quality event. If you missed it, donメt let the January show pass you by.

Thank you to all the brides, their friends and their families for coming out to the Fall Expo at the Tacoma Dome. Your response was warm, your comments all positive and receptive. The weekend was a great experience for A Greater Plan. We hope it was the same for you.

Serenitea Catering and Bar Service update!

The caterer is one of the most costly aspects in your wedding or special event. You want your friends and family to enjoy themselves with the food choices that you have made. When it comes to seeing the price tags on some of the packages, it might seem to hurt the check book a bit. We believe in excellence in the culinary arts, as well as value to our clients. Out specialty is an Asian ヨ American food blending. We have well kept family secrets from both sides of our families that bring the goodness of down South Southern dishes with slow cooked barbeque to the addicting spices from Asia is our culinary menu options. We believe international dishes shouldnメt cost more than American choices. We are dedicated to making your guests mouth dance to the flavors as well as the music.

We never charge a corking fee. What we offer is all the glassware for the bar service. Our bar service includes two bartender with experience in the wedding industry as well as in the outside commercial market in making cocktails to even a signature drink for your event. We do not provide the alcohol for the event, which leaves you the freedom to purchase your beverages anywhere you want at your budget. We just need to know what you will be serving so we can make appropriate accommodations in our glassware selection. We do it all, serving and clean up. The last thing any of your guests should do is pick up where other caterers leave off.

Please keep in mind that the wedding calendar fills up quickly for the summer months, and booking your caterer as many months in advance is advised. For a short notice wedding, please call us or email us to see if the date is available and we will work with you in planning a wedding menu to remember.

The Book

While recovering from surgery last winter, I began reading a copy of INC. magazine. As a wedding invitation consultant, and having married into the Lilley family while a Senior Advertising and Marketing Account Executive for The Wall Street Journal, and becoming a licensed counselor, I began to think in terms of what our clients need to know for their wedding(s)....from A to Z, and soon, my efforts will be rewarded in print.

Having done much research, we as a team here discerned that most bridal books carry some but not ALL the information needed to get the job done for any bride.

We have taken all of our writing back to the very first newsletters begun 7 years ago, and expounded on them, and everything we have ever written and more, and put it together so you can't miss a thing you will need to know for your wedding.

You can look forward to seeing excerpts of the book online before long, and a link you may use from here to view it from our website.

If you read this blog, let us know what you think of our idea(s). And, yes, we are putting it together in a way that is very user friendly.

You may email me your thoughts and needs anytime to:

I welcome your questions.

Fall Special

Planning a fall wedding? Why not have a totally unique cake and floral design featuring fall leaves, acorns, mums, or even pumpkins and gourds? I can design your wedding party florals and wedding cake to remind you of a walk in the fall leaves. Add a few fall candle colors to depict the warmth of a warm fire and you will have a dream of a wedding. I offer unique designs and always look to have something "different" for each bride I design for. Add a waterfall accent - with lights and a hint of color, and you have a fall scene to rival the great outdoors. 10% off cakes and florals for October.

New venues

It's always fun to play at new venues and discover beautiful locations around the Puget Sound. Last weekend we played for a wedding at Luna Park, a small triangle of land that juts out into the water north of Alki beach in West Seattle. It was the perfect site for a wedding- romantic and picturesque. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, either! This weekend we look forward to venturing north, to Everett and to Mount Vernon.

We had a Fabulous time meeting all of you at the wedding shows

It's been a busy few weeks, with three wedding expos in a row, but we had such fun. It's always heartening to know that the products and services we offer are exactly what couples getting married are wanting. We get offers every week from invitation companies who want us to carry their products and represent their invitation lines. We've been selective in the companies we choose to represent and from what we've heard from the brides-to-be who stopped to visit us at the wedding shows, we're offering products that meet your desires. There is no "typical" invitation. Brides are looking for everything from beach themes to brilliant colors, to simple and understated to traditional bride & groom designs. What makes our job so much fun is being able to find the invitation that the couple knows is the perfect representation of them and their wedding.

Here we go again

Every weekend we've been going to location after location all over the great state of Washington. We thought it would be a little helpful to get some inside information on some of the halls or locations you may be considering for your event. Our last wedding was at the Plantation in Yelm, Washington. This building was a great location with a very helpful staff onsite for the outside wedding professionals coming in. It was organized, and with well maintained grouds in a very unique setting. The Fergueson - Doll Wedding was beautiful. The bride arrived on a horse drawn carriage and the father walked his daughter to her future husband who was waiting for the her at the doorway. It seemed like a scene from a fairytale. The building itself was large, and the wedding, which was outside was expecially beautiful. The interior had a full kitchen for the caterers, as well as a large hall with a stage for the reception. The yard was filled with tables for the guests, and the interior hall also had ample seating. There is a built in bar, which was helpful for someone in my profession with a sink for the bartender. I would highly recommend this location, and would love to work there again. We go where you go for one flat fee!

Photography on your Wedding Day

Choosing a Photographer very often hard to do for a bridal because the bride is very busy on her wedding day with making sure everything is perfect and going to plan. Finding a photographer who can capture every moment from beginning to end is very important. The smile on the brides face as she walks down the isle, the nervousness on the fathers face as he gives her away, the amazement of the grooms face as the bride walks down the isle. Capturing all these moments is priceless!
I would love to do that for each and every persons wedding! Capturing Moments that will last a life time, what a great job to have!

How important is the wedding video?

Nearly every bride has a professional photographer out for her wedding, but how much attention is paid to the wedding video? It's been my experience that a distant uncle or a grandfather usually just follows the wedding party around with the family camcorder, if the photographer allows it. That's fine for right now, of course. A standard digital camcorder will produce images that can be burned onto a disk and viewed on most DVD devices.

But what about HD-DVD? What about Blue Ray?

The wedding video is something the bride and groom will want to cherish for years to come. How embarrassing would it be to pull out that old DVD in five years and have all of your friends chuckling at the low resolution? Even now, vendors like Best Buy and Wal-Mart are stocking the new HD-DVD players, with the advent of Blue Ray just around the corner. What does this mean for brides and grooms getting married within the next year or so?

All this technology is in a transitional phase, making the decision something of a Catch 22: should brides and grooms go with standard resolution so they will have something to watch right now, or should they go with high resolution so they will have something to watch later? To me, the only reasonable answer is to find a videographer who can offer BOTH for the same price.

I'd be interested to hear what other people think. Is the resolution, or even the wedding video, that important? Do HD-DVD and Blue Ray stand a chance in a market already saturated with "the latest thing"? Any feedback would be very helpful.

What's new at Video DJ's of Hawaii

Aloha and thanks for reading my ramblings. As the title states, I want to share with you a few new things that we have to offer you.

First off, I want to remind you of a few things that we do that separate us from the others.

1. Custom recordings
2. Extensive pre-planning
3. Wedding reception emergency kit
4. A no obligation informational consultation
5. Free video screen and projector

Okay, now to the good stuff. As I mentioned in my email, there are new things on the horizon for my company. A new company has been started and will address the needs of the couples that have requested a "bare bones" DJ company. In the meantime, we will fine tune our current offerings and adjust them accordingly.

Next up is something that I am really excited about. Imagine having pictures of your father and you from your childhood to the present projected on the main video screen while you dance the "Father / Bride dance". What a wonderful sight and memorable moment for your father and your guests. Take it to another level by adding a Custom Recording.

There are many variations to what we have to offer you. I just can't tell you everything via this blog, email, or telephone. The best way is by way of a consultation.

Please, call me at 295-8504 or email me to setup a "no obligation" consultation.

Aloha for now,

Brides Guide

Things to consider before you start planning the wedding

 It is recommended that you and your Fianc← describe your fantasy wedding to one another, then talk about how much of it or what parts are most important or actually possible.

 Decide very early in the planning process the number of guest. This is so important for many reasons; the first is that the number of guest has a huge impact on the cost of the wedding and the planning of the budget.

 When planning your budget consider the fact that half your budget should go toward the cost of the reception, location, and catering (including cake) and bar services. The balance is spread between couples attire, flowers, decorations, photography, stationary, favors, music, and other details. (Amounts to be adjusted accordingly).

 The standard or most common number of people in the wedding party is 8 -12 people.

About Wedding Cinematography, LLC

Wedding Cinematography was founded by two professional motion picture and television cinematographers to bring high quality production values to wedding videos.

In the early 1990's, we worked as freelance camera operators for a variety of wedding video production companies in Washington and in Southern California.

If you can believe it, weddings are more difficult to shoot than the big productions because you don't get retakes. You must strive to bring artistry into a pure documentary situation while constantly adjusting to different locations and dynamics. You need to be on the alert, to anticipate and to think fast.

As experienced camera operators and video editors who have spent many long hours behind the camera and in post-production, our goal is to make your wedding video one of your most cherished heirlooms.

We have the flexability and knowlege to work discreetly while we capture those special moments and emotions of your wedding day.

We offer high quality wedding video productions at modest prices and our packages allow you to choose the elements of your wedding video that are most important to you.

Give us a call at (206) 850-3502 and allow us the opportunity to answer any questions you may have or to design a video package that fits your needs.

Selecting a DJ

The best and most sure fire way to select a DJ for your reception is to go see him or her in action at another reception. The people that the DJ is working for shouldnメt mind and you will get a chance to:
#1 See how the DJ handles the crowd.
#2 Listen to the DJ to see if they have a pleasant voice to make announcements and introductions.
#3 Hear if they talk to much or not enough.
#4 Inspect the condition and quality of their sound and lighting equipment.
#5 How young or old the DJ is.
#6 See if the DJ plays the music to loud.
#7 See the DJ in their proper attire.
#8 See how the DJ conducts their self.
#9 Listen to the music selection.

The one thing you will loose is 2 or 3 Saturday nights but you will get a great DJ.

If there is anything that I can do for you on your special day, please give me a call!

Thank You,
Don Buzzell (Buzz)

Why We Attend Wedding Shows

Our first wedding show was this past weekend in Seattle. It's the first of three consecutive weekend shows we're doing. Why do we exhibit at the shows? There are a lot of reasons, but some of the main reasons are that it gives us an opportunity to meet couples getting married and their families, and find out what you're looking for as you plan your wedding. We enjoy it when couples take the time to stop and talk with us, look at the products we offer and learn a bit more about what we do. If we hear that couples are looking for items we don't offer then in some cases we look to our suppliers and find out if we can get those items.

At the Seattle show we talked to a fair number of brides who told us they planned to print their own invitations. And we talked to several others who told us they thought they'd do that, and then changed their mind after attempting to print Save the Date cards themselves. Whether you print yourself or not, contact us. We may be able to get wholesale rates on paper and card stock for your invitations that we can sell to you cheaper than you'll be able to find at most retail outlets.

We always encourge those couples who do take the time to stop and visit with us at the shows to use us for our resources if nothing else.

So, please, if you plan to attend a show, plan to spend time talking to vendors, asking a lot of questions and getting a feel for the people you want to help you make your wedding perfect!

Wedding Consultants

In today's busy world, there are some days that we stop to remember loved ones, who we are and what we want to do in this life. For many of us, we find love, our soul mate and best friend. When this happens there is a marriage ceremony, along with a celebration with family and friends. Some of us have the knowledge and devoted time to plan every detail. Some of us have no time to spare and don't know where to start. For the past 20 years or so, there has been a group of people who have formed another job occupation. They go by many names; "Wedding Planner," "Wedding Coordinator," "Bridal Consultant," and many other names. But what these names amount up to are people who care, who are devoted and who want only the best for other people in the world. So when you start planning your wedding day, remember there are professionals out there to help you plan, prepare and participate in the most important day of your life. A Perfect Planner was founded on the principles of helping people with their wedding details. We are a consultating service and we provide a you with some of the best wedding vendors. We offer only one package, our "Planner" package. This package includes; Assistants with booking all of your vendors, Wedding Rehearsal and Ceremony Coordination. For other Special Events, this package includes; Assistants with booking your vendors and set up coordination. Both are offered at the same low price. Call our toll free number for more information. (toll free 1-877-222-0204). We proudly serve the San Diego area.

The NEW YORK TIMES is impressed with BORROWED BLING

We were excited when a reporter from the Style section of the New York Times newspaper called and said she wanted to do a story on us. She was writing an article on the new phenomenon that is sweeping the nation, where consumers are choosing to RENT and BORROW luxury items instead of buying them.

The reporter actually borrowed several jewelry items from us and wore them to several swanky New York media events & parties in order to test their "bling appeal", to see how easily they could pass for authentic diamonds, and to see if wearing them made her feel different or evoke different reactions from the people she knew.

Of course, her experience went great and you can read all about it in the September 10th 2006 Sunday edition of the New York Times paper, in the Style section. Basically people are seeing the many great benefits of renting instead of owning: It saves a lot of money, offers an endless rotation of fashion and jewels so that you have new items to wear as often as you need to or want to, and it reduces the problem with clutter in your closet and getting stuck with items that you become sick of, or that go out of style. We are your SOLUTION! Log onto www.BorrowedBling.com to see all of the possibilities!

Invitations: Under Construction!

When we build an invitation, we do it pretty much the same way a contractor creates a new building. We have to form the "blueprints", gather the list of materials and their costs, determine the labor hours, and....how long it is going to take on our schedule.

We simply substitute printing language.

Custom means new or a creation of ours, yours or one we build together that is not limited to one paper.

Then, there is semi custom with our albums that allow you to interchange cardstock and colors.

And, then, there is already built from our many wedding albums with little variation except font, paper liner for envelopes and ink color.

Make Your Own Wedding Cake-- If You're Brave!

I noticed a lot of people are coming to the blog looking for wedding cake recipes to do their own cake. While it may save you money, I can almost bet that you will incur more stress and frustration. Letting a professional handle your wedding cake assures that you will have an expert design and create your cake, as well as deliver it one piece. Some bakers will even stay on hand to cut the cake or decorate it with the florist. But let's say you are having a small intimate wedding at home, or have oodles of time before the wedding. Wilton has always provided excellent resources for cake baking-- their kits are also easy to use with easy-to-follow directions. They even have pre-made fondant, which will make your life so much easier. Their cake pans are very easy to use. Consider also getting a Pampered Chef cake decorator. They have worked wonders and performed small miracles in my house. DEFINITELY do a practice cake...and make sure you do it months before your wedding. In the event of a mishap, have your local bakery or grocery store bakery on speed dial. Publix and Sam's Club have been known for their great, yet inexpensive weddingcakes.

Here's a great recipe from Carolyn Rodish that I thought would make a fabulous wedding cake:

Champagne Cake Recipe

1 Duncan Hines white cake mix (works best)

Follow box instructions, except substitute 3/4 C. Andre' Pink Champagne for part of the liquid called for, and the rest milk.

The rest of ingredients as called for on the box,

Tint cake batter with 1-2 drops of red food coloring to tint the batter a pastel pink color, if desired. Bake as usual.

You can use jams for your fruit filling in your cakes-- just be sure that it complements the flavors of your cake layers and icing. Carolyn also has a Champagne Buttercream icing, however, the following recipe is among my favorites. I made Monica's recipe for my prima donna daughter's 4 birthday. It covered two tiers of a small cake, and still gave me leftovers for another two tiered small cake and probably six cupcakes. Trust me, I had to resist major temptation not to sit on the couch with the bowl and a spoon watching the Fit Channel :)

French Buttercream Icing

8 oz. sugar

2 oz. water

4 eggs

4 egg yolks

1/2 tsp. salt

1 lb. butter

1/2 lb. shortening

Vanilla to flavor

  • Dissolve sugar in water and cook to 240. (candy thermometer)

  • Place eggs, yolks, and salt in mixer w/ whip attachment until light & fluffy.

  • While whipping, pour hot sugar onto eggs.Pouring it in a steady stream between the whip and the side of bowl.

  • Whip (HI) until cool, then whip(LO) in butter & shortening.

Procedure is similar to a Italian Meringue Buttercream. French Buttercream will be yellow, due to egg yolks. Italian is white.

(This tints well and easily with food coloring. So if you want a white icing, use an Italian Buttercream recipe)

Trust Me-- This WILL Be the New Must-Have Wedding Song

If you are still looking for the perfect song for your wedding, you will love "You Are My Miracle" by Vittorio Grigolo featuring Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls. It is a beautiful song-- think of Andrea Bocelli meets Mariah Carey. It's not over the top, but instead, beautifully composed and orchestrated. It would make a great first dance song, but it is perfect for the processional as well (it has perfect timing!). Perfect for the Opera and love song lovers! Have a listen or buy from iTunes.

Brown Is the New Black!

If you have been loving the pink and chocolate, turquoise and chocolate or robin's egg blue and chocolate, you already know about this trend. It's been around for a "minute", but it's still making statements in weddings around the world. I love it so much I have it in my house!

When I was looking for inspiration for the wonderful colors, I looked to Chiasso. Chiasso has some of the BEST modern decor I have seen in a long time. If you need color ideas or even some unique pieces for your centerpieces, you will really like Chiasso.

The "chocolate" craze has been all the rage, especially in cakes:

Come and Visit Georgia's Jewel!

I just love where I live :) We finally took a break from moving, cleaning and unpacking and took the babies to the beach. We had an awesome time! Jekyll Island's beach is a great beach to go to-- a little less congested than St. Simons, yet still has great views. I did have a good time. My hair on the other hand, did not. I walked out of my house Hollywood glam, came back looking like Tina Turner's lost love child. The humidity is something down here! So now I am on the hunt for Tigi's S-factor products which is supposed to help with humidity. So a note to the fellow wedding divas, if you are coming this way....bring the spackle for your hair.

On the plus side, if you have not visited the island are considering it for your wedding destination, I hope you come and visit. Jekyll Island is exclusive and intimate. You will feel like the world revolves around you. The Jekyll Island Club is always doing fantastic chef demonstrations, dinner and dancing soirees and more. If you have ever considered having your wedding at the Club, you shoud really come down for a visit. The hotel is located in the Historical District of the island and offers you many options such as the Faith Chapel and Crane Cottage.

Presently, the Jekyll Club is offering a special, which is a wonderful opportunity for you to come and visit and test the waters. You can enjoy the exclusive club during its Fall special for only $139 per night, per person! Simply enter the code FALL when securing your reservations.

Lucky seven

Seven brides have taken advantage of 20% savings with the Fall Special from Hawaii Weddings and Events

Dianna Shitanishi reports that the special, which kicked off on September 1st, has received alot of attention from brides (especially California) who are looking for a full service wedding planner to assist with their destination wedding.

The special is valid until September 30, 2006 (or the last three brides that book), whichever comes first.

How far in advance should I book?

I'm often asked the question on how far in advance should I book my wedding or the vendors?

From past and current experience, the larger weddings seem to book about one year in advance as there are less venues available to them and the smaller ones (less than 100 guests) seem to book about nine months out. Of course, there are still those weddings that will book for next month!

The following factors should be considered:

If you have a destination wedding, or have many relatives that will be traveling from other places, more time is often better to allow your friends and family the opportunity to take time off of work and save for the trip (which often becomes a vacation).

If you have a specific date in mind, perhaps the date you met, or what I refer to as a "quirky" or popular date (ie: next year is 7-07-07 (especially since it is a Saturday) and the next one is sure to be 8-08-08, you'll need to book much earlier than the bride that just wants sometime in September or October.

Another consideration is if you are using very popular vendors such as photographers, hair and make-up, video, florists, coordinators, etc., you'll want to book earlier to get the one you WANT versus who is available.

Milwaukee Wedding Disc Jockeys

How important is choosing a dj in relationship with the overall success of your wedding day? Have you ever been to a wedding whereas the wedding cake made the most memorable impression, how about the flowers? There will be some that will be breathless about the brides dress and love the food but what about your dj tucked in the corner? What if he doesn't know what he's doing? What if he doesn't play the right songs at the right time? What if he doesn't get your friends and family motivated? Ever been to a wedding where the dj really rocked and you had a great time? Now, I bet you and many more guests at that wedding remember how much fun they had.

I have been providing my disc jockey services since 1990 and love what I do. I have done weddings with guests rangind from toddlers to 80 and from 50 guests to 400 and I pride myself in trying to make sure that every wedding is personalized, memorable, and fun. A thing of beauty is truly a joy forever!

Creating a beautiful invitation is something we love to do. Most recently, I simply decided to "play" with the paper. This translates to mixing up colors to see what happens with layers and components, and, I managed withou selecting two specific a design to get a good grasp of color, and mixing it up.

This kind of thing prompts the creativity in each of us.

When I awaken in the morning, I think, "gee, what are we going to create today?"

And, so it goes. Look for our new information on our site: The many faces of our designers!

What are some of the newest Wedding Trends for 2007?

One can only imagine what the trends will be, but after talking with caterers and wedding planners from all over the United States, the following were some of the latest:

Having at least one element that will reflect both your personal style and your relationship will make it a memorable event for your guests.

Both in secular and in religious weddings, couples often incorporate the unity candle into their ceremony. A new twist on this is the wine unity ceremony where the bride and groom pour from two separate bottles into one cup and both drink from it. Another option is using sand. In this incarnation of the unity ceremony, the bride and groom pick up a handful of sand from separate vessels and drop it into a larger vessel. This is a nice option because it is easy to incorporate other members of the family into the ritual, and great for those outdoor Hawaii weddings.

Color, geometric shapes, unique cuisine, and ethnic entertainment topped the list, with specialty linens incorporating several shades of the same color becoming increasingly popular.

Chocolate brown is the hottest color at the moment, both stylist and welcoming paired with pale blue or pink.

Square tables and varied table shapes throughout the room are replacing the traditional rounds.

A special beverage greeting for your guests as they arrive, anything from a colourful lemonade stand to martini ice bar will add a memorable touch.

Food stations, an assortment of different textures to create unique passing trays, and interactive cooking are all hot trends for the coming year.

Matching the entertainment to your choice of food is also becoming increasingly popular.

Though the wedding cake has always played a significant role in the classic wedding, many couples are looking at more personalized look using initials or cake toppers are gaining popularity again.

Whatever you decide, be sure your wedding reflects your sense of style, your relationship and works with your budget.

Currently, I am musing away at how to best serve our clients for the best pricing when it comes to letterpress printing. When I googled letterpress, I found that there are over 1700 listings for letterpress.

We have been letterpress printing since our company began. When it began, letterpress and engraving printing were the only options.

As John Nesbit said in the 80's, the more things change, the more things stay the same, or we are back to printing more letterpress every month as it becomes the tried and true tradtional form of fine printing right alongside engraving.

Because letterpress offers such a singularly distinctive look to each piece, it is more srtful than engraving, because with engraving, the goal is for each piece to be exactly alike.

Lettepress allows us to create little rivulets of ink into the paper with metal dies mounted to wood...ah the texture, the highly kinesthetic sense of touch and fine paper....something so lovely, you would not toss this invitation out....nor the thank you note it is written on.

What does CMP stand for?

This is the second question I receive when clients look at my business card.

Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Program
Setting the Standard of Excellence

Through the CMP Program, individuals who are currently employed in meeting management have the opportunity to pursue continuing education, increased industry involvement and industry-wide recognition by achieving the CMP designation. The requirements for certification are based on professional experience and an academic examination.

The foremost certification program of today's meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry, the CMP designation recognizes those who have achieved the industry's highest standard of professionalism.

Established in 1985, the CMP credential was developed to increase the proficiency of meeting professionals in any component or sector of the industry by:

Identifying a body of knowledge; Establishing a level of knowledge and performance necessary for certification;
Stimulating the advancement of the art and science of meeting management; Increasing the value of practitioners to their employers; Recognizing and raising industry standards, practices and ethics; Maximizing the value received from the products and services provided by Certified Meeting Professionals.

A Certification Board designated by CIC governs the program and includes one representative from each planner organization of CIC and four representatives from the supplier category. The CMP Board seeks to represent the diversity that exists within the profession and serve as a voice for stakeholders who have an interest in maintaining a high meeting industry standard.

The elite CMP community now numbers in the thousands, with representatives from every sector of the industry -- from corporations and associations to governmental and institutional organizations.

My CMP certification which was achieved in 2004 may be verified on the convention industry council website

What does CPCE stand for?

One of the most common questions I receive is what does CPCE stand for?

The National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) encourages the professional development of caterers through voluntary participation in its certification program.

Achievement of the Certified Professional Catering Executive (CPCE) designation demonstrates expertise in catering earned by taking a comprehensive examination that covers all aspects of professional catering.

The comprehensive, three-section exam which covers all aspects of catering (including on-premise or off-premise) was developed in collaboration with the Educational Institute, a nonprofit foundation of the American Hotel and Motel Association.

Goals of the examination program:

ユ Establish a nationally recognized standard of competence in catering.
ユ Promote professional commitment to excellence in catering.
ユ Endorse active participation in educational offerings that support the continued competency of Certified Professional Catering Executives.
ユ Aid employers in identifying qualified catering personnel.
ユ Enhance the professional image of the catering executive
ユ Provide a sense of personal achievement for the advancement of one's career.

Benefits of accreditation
ユ Recognition of professional ability by fellow catering executives, employers and the public.
ユ Potential for increased career opportunities in the catering industry.
ユ Greater expertise in the catering profession.
ユ Prestige of being one of the select group who earned the right to use the CPCE designation

Achieving the CPCE certification was a personal goal which was achieved in 2002. I am honored to be the only person in the State of Hawaii that has this certification, which can be verified on the NACE national website link below
http://www.nace.net/html/cpce/hawaii.html

I am also honored to be the Honolulu NACE Chapter President and understand that continued education is important to keep abreast of the latest catering trends and being able to better service my valued clients.

Successful Wedding Budgeting Tips

If you are paying for your wedding (and most of todays brides and grooms are paying for their own) you are probably trying to stick to a budget.

Having a budget doesn't mean being cheap, it means keeping track and being judicious about what you spend where.

Before I was a wedding photographer I was a bride. A bride who paid for her own wedding.

The key to any successful budgeting is three steps:

#1 Establish Reasonable Goals
How much money do you have to spend on your wedding?
On your reception?
What will that Budget provide?
Do the research to see what you can truly get for your budget.

#2 Make a Plan and Stick To it (as much as possible)
This doesn't mean not to have fun planning your wedding, just go about planning your wedding with purpose.

#3 Keep Track of What You Spend -- This is THE Budget Buster!!!

Knowledge is power. A few Blogs ago I mentioned "The Binder", a great way to keep everything together and organized. If you are like most brides, and have a budget that you want to keep to, this will be a huge help.

Have a great time planning your wedding!
