At Brown's Catering we provide food that is delicious to the eye and the mouth, and we have first rate service.
We have a Culinary School Graduate and French trained chef, Anthony Reeves
We display food with flowers, fruits, and other seasonal decorations. Sometimes people are afraid to eat because the food looks so beautiful.
Our food is not only beautiful, but it tastes just as good as it looks.
Our exceptional food is backed up with our amazing serving staff.
Brown's Catering is the only company in the Northwest to provide a White Gloved Butler Service. Our classy servers wear tuxedos and white gloves to present food ot each guest.
This alone will make your wedding a step above all the weddings you have been to in the last year.
So ask your caterer 2 questions.....
1. What chef will be cooking your food? Where were they trained?
2. What kind of service will you be getting? Server uniforms?
Their answers..
"I've been cooking all my life, I love to cook"
Translation: They have no formal training
"We have traditional black and white uniforms"
Translation: dingy black pants and stained white shirt worn to every event
Choose Brown's Catering for the best food and service possible. We will blow your mind.
Call or email us today for our menu.

SHOW "GROWING UP & COURTSHIP PHOTO MONTAGE" AT REHEARSAL DINNER & RECEPTION
One of the greatest and most enjoyable ways to highlight the bride and groom's special day is to ask your videographer to provide a professionally produced "GROWING UP AND COURTSHIP SLIDE SHOW"--complete with your choice of background music and specially designed and personalized animated titling and graphics.
Many couples and parents love the "GROWING UP AND COURTSHIP SLIDE SHOW" DVD so much that it is shown at the rehearsal dinner and/or becomes a special feature at the reception. The program can be included as part of the final Wedding and Reception DVD as well.
Sometimes couples opt for a professionally produced love story where beautiful candid video shots of the bride and groom are taken in romantic outdoor settings to create a love story that portrays the essence of their loving relationship. Slow motion effects, background music, and a short narrative make incredible and cherished memories.
You see, your wedding day can be much more than you imagined.
May all your wedding planning be joyful,

CAN A FAMILY FRIEND OR RELATIVE VIDEO TAPE YOUR WEDDING ???
Johnson Video Productions has gotten this question a lot over the twenty-three years we've been capturing wedding memories. Our experience tells us that having a friend or family member video tape is a big risk. Here's why:
Here's how it plays out. Our phone rings. "Johnson Video Productions," we answer. The voice says, "I am wondering if you can fix my weding video."
"What seems to be the problem?" I ask.
Most usually the bride talks about these things:
1. I can't clearly hear what people are saying.
2. The picture is unsteady and hard to watch.
3. The video is choppy and doesn't flow together to tell a story.
4. Only one camera was used. Sometimes the camera person moved around and then missed short parts of the wedding.
Unfortunately, there really isn't a lot that can be done with bad video footage. Your wedding day is way to important to risk not getting a video that will preserve your special memories. Having a friend or relative who could produce a bad video can sometimes strain future relationships as well.
Of course, we hope you select Johnson Video Productions, but even more important is that you secure professional videographers so you won't have to worry about getting a wedding video that's not up to professional standards.

JAZZ UNLIMITED BAND
BEST WISHES FROM -
"THE JAZZ UNLIMITED BAND"
My name is Duane Wright, the leader of the band.
On a weekly basis, I receive many calls from Brides who
are making plans for their weddings, often months in advance
and sometimes even years in advance. I find that one of the
biggest concerns for Brides, (when planning their wedding in
advance), is being asssured that the BAND they hire today will
be the same band that performs on their wedding day. Not a pick
up band or a substitute band or worse yet a cancellation.
This year I received a "FRANTIC" call from a bride where another
band was hired to play at her wedding. The band actually called
the Bride and cancelled three days prior to the wedding day. The
Bride then contacted the Jazz Unlimited Band and Thank Goodness
we were availabe to perform for this wedding. We saved the
wedding day by playing for the wedding ceremony, cocktail hour
and reception. The wedding turned out beautiful, and the Bride &
Groom thanked the Jazz Unlimited Band over and over for saving
their wedding.
We are proud of our impeccable reputation, and professionalism.
I want to assure you that the Jazz Unlimited Band will be there
for you, regardless if your wedding day is months in advance and
even years in advance. We use the same Jazz Unlimited
professinal musicians year after year. assuring you that our
popular sound and musical arrangements, will be there
for you on your wedding day with a quality performance.
No sutstitutes - no cancellations.
Please see the jazzunlimitedband web site and click on MENU item
"CHOOSING THE RIGHT BAND". We are proud to list these very
important considerations.
I want to thank the many Brides and Grooms who continue to
contact me and the Jazz Unlimited Band. Together - we will work
to make your Wedding Day a musical success, and always at
"affordable prices".
Sincerely,
Duane M. Wright

This is great time of year to get married!
I just returned from another wedding of the season. The bride was breath taking, and her theme seemed to be a wonderful blend of traditional with modern. Her theme was black and white with pink. The simplicity of the color scheme was very elegant. She had wine toppers as favors, as well as pink signature drinks ( which I was pumping out all night :) like a pomagrante cosmo and a pink vodka tonic. The wedding had 250 people celebrating and drinking. The combination of white wine, red wine, beer, and signature drinks kept everyone happy all night. We wish Amy and her new found husband the best of wishes in their life together, as their wedding was a beautiful beginning.

I love this time of year for holiday baking
I am one who does not have a fondness of holiday fruitcake, but I do enjoy baking this time of year. When the weather gets cooler, my kitchen warms up with the smells of the season. I am currently waiting for my Pecan pumpkin bread to bake as I write this blog. My friends and family know that they will be getting cooked meals or holiday treats from me this time of year, and I think that food and drinks are always great gifts for people, whether they are co-workers, or intimate people in your life, as everyone has to eat. I suppose the important question is what are they going to eat. Experimenting on classic favorites keeps the menu from becoming blah and predictable. Try a pumpkin cheesecake instead of pumpkin pie for instance, this one is one of my personal favorites.
Our new website is coming soon, so keep an eye out: www.cocktailsandcatering.com
Happy baking!

Besides our own designs here in the photogallery, you may also create your own from this one supplier of ours by itself, not to mention the fact that we also offer letterpress invitations of our own and more, oh so much more.....

Your First Dance ヨ 10/28/06
Your first dance as husband and wife can be one of the most memorable moments of your reception. To make sure itメs a good memory, consider practicing your dance for a few weeks before the event to make sure you are in step. Lessons can also give you added confidence while you shake your groove thing. Your first dance can be waltz, tango, or swing, just make sure you and your partner feel comfortable.
We do lots of weddings ヨ and I always think during the first dance that it would be nice to have a video of that event ヨ but many brides just havenメt included that in the budget. Thatメs why this year ヨ weメve added a new service ヨ a custom-made video that will include some of the most important elements of the ceremony and reception ナ so you can capture the emotions of the moment on video.
Be sure and ask about it when you contact us.
Hope to hear from you soon. We want to be your wedding photographers.

What style of ceremony is right for you?
The wedding day revolves around the ceremony. With so many choices, choose what feels right for you and your fianc←. Are you interested in a religious ceremony? Civil ceremony? Or a spiritual ceremony? If you and your fianc← are of different faiths, you can incorporate religious traditions from both sides. Whatever you choose, it is your day and the ceremony will set the tone for it.
As we work with many couples, we do all we can NOT to interrupt the proceedings and weメve found that good advance planning can help with this. So, the more you can tell us about what you have planned ナ the better.
We would love to help you create memories that will last a lifetime. So, please give us at a call at: (253)405-5461 or e-mail us at: danakehr@comcast.net

Questions for any officiant
713-822-1073
RevMilton@PeoplewithoutaChurch.org
"Getting to Know You"
What, When, Where & How to Ask Important Questions of Your Wedding Officiant
Identifying someone to officiate at your wedding can sometimes be a more daunting task than finding your betrothed - especially if you are not affiliated with a particular house of worship or if you are marrying outside of your faith. The key to finding an officiant who is in sync with you and your partner is to ask questions. Your wedding should be a customized ceremony, reflecting who you are as individuals and as a couple. To do this, your officiant must understand your beliefs, your values, and what makes your bond so special. Since it is easy to get caught up in the details of your reception, remember that your ceremony should be the most important part of your wedding day -treat it with reverence and find an officiant who does too.
To avoid the cookie cutter approach to weddings, we recommend asking these essential questions of a prospective wedding officiant before you walk down the aisle.
How do you create the ceremony? Do we have final approval over the script? Ideally, the officiant should collaborate with you every step of the way so that the ceremony is tailor-made for you. Don't let a boilerplate ceremony be imposed on you. We encourage you to personalize your ceremony.
When will you arrive? The officiant should be available at least 30 minutes before the ceremony in order to run through any last minute changes, and to coordinate details with readers, musicians, photographers and videographers. We are always there at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start.
Does your fee include a full rehearsal at the wedding venue? Many officiants don't rehearse, but a rehearsal is essential for a beautifully choreographed ceremony - and for calming last-minute nerves. We always attend the rehearsal, if at all possible.
Can we vary the traditional choreography of a wedding? You may wish to face your guests rather than the officiant, or have the officiant stand to the side instead of between you and your spouse. Make sure your officiant is open to these suggestions. Of course, you may alter the traditional.
What training do you have in creating and officiating at ceremonies? Many officiants have no specific training. Look for those who have a sound background in the history of ritual and ceremony. We hold a Masters in Divinity from a leading seminary in the Midwest.
Will you work with our other wedding professionals? The officiant should coordinate as needed with musicians to provide music cues for the ceremony, with photographers and videographers to assist them in getting the best shots, and with the staff of your venue to ensure that the ceremony will not conflict in any way with their requirements. Of course, other professionals are welcome.

Tips for Vendor Selection ヨ 10/25/06
Will it be a perfect wedding day with no cake, wilted flowers, or the wrong song playing for your first dance as husband and wife? Vendors play a big role in making the wedding day special. Ways to avoid the unthinkable:
ユ Check vendorsメ references
ユ Ask for samples
ユ Get agreements in writing
Same is true for photographers.

What do you look for in a wedding reception location?
When looking for a place to hold your wedding reception, what should you look for? There are a few key items that will make or break any reception.
1)Friendly staff that makes your day priority #1. They should be there to answer any questions and to keep the event going as smoothly as possible.
2)Banquet rooms that are decorated to your liking and are also large or small enough to accommodate all your loved ones. You do not want them to be cramped, but you also do not want a room so large that you have to walk what seems like a mile in those high heels and dress shoes to talk with everyone.
3)A large variety of menus to choose from. Plus delicious food that you will talk about for days.
4)Finally, competitive prices that fit within your budget!!!
What questions should you ask when trying to find the perfect location?
1)Can we bring our own decorations?
2)Can we bring our own food? (Most places do not allow this)
3)What kind of wedding packages do you offer?
4)Will I have one person to go to with questions before and during the reception?
5)Will there be any extra charges for such things as a cake cutter, dance floor, carver for a buffet?
There are probably a million of other questions, but these will get you started on planning your big day and making the most of the location that you have chosen.
Please call so set up your appointment today.

The Skinny On Skin
The skin is an organ that forms a protective barrier against germs (and other organisms) and keeps the inside of your body inside your body, and keeps what's outside of your body outside. Skin also helps maintain a constant body temperature. Human skin is only about 0.07 inches (2 mm) thick.
Skin is made up of two layers that cover a third fatty layer. The outer layer is called the epidermis; it is a tough protective layer that contains melanin (which protects against the rays of the sun and gives the skin its color). The second layer (located under the epidermis) is called the dermis; it contains nerve endings, sweat glands, oil glands, and hair follicles. Under these two skin layers is a fatty layer of subcutaneous tissue (the word subcutaneous means "under the skin").
On average, an adult has from 18-20 square feet (about 2 square meters) of skin, which weighs about 6 pounds (2.7 kg).

dermis - (also called the cutis) the layer of the skin just beneath the epidermis.
epidermis - the outer layer of the skin.
hair follicle - a tube-shaped sheath that surrounds the part of the hair that is under the skin. It is located in the epidermis and the dermis. The hair is nourished by the follicle at its base (this is also where the hair grows).
hair shaft - The part of the hair that is above the skin.
hair erector muscle - a muscle is connected to each hair follicle and the skin - it contracts (in response to cold, fear, etc.), resulting in an erect hair and a "goosebump" on the skin.
melanocyte - a cell in the epidermis that produces melanin (a dark-colored pigment that protects the skin from sunlight).
Pacinian corpuscle - nerve receptors that respond to pressure and vibration; they are oval capsules of sensory nerve fibers located in the subcutaneous fatty tissue
sebaceous gland - a small, sack-shaped gland that releases oily (fatty) liquids onto the hair follicle (the oil lubricated and softens the skin). These glands are located in the dermis, usually next to hair follicles.
sweat gland - (also called sudoriferous gland) a tube-shaped gland that produces perspiration (sweat). The gland is located in the epidermis; it releases sweat onto the skin.
subcutaneous tissue - fatty tissue located under the dermis.

Meeting Expectations
We all have expectations about things. Sometimes they live up to them and sometimes they don't. Everyone wants their wedding and honeymoon to meet their expectations, but how can you assure that? The main way is probably planning. Plan early, investigate options, and set realistic goals. Here's an example of what I mean. I was recently on a Celebrity cruise where I talked with a lot of passengers. I asked one woman if this was her first cruise and she said no, she'd gone on one before on a different cruise line but she hadn't enjoyed it. I asked her why and she said it was because that cruise fell short of her expectations. Further discussion uncovered the fact that she had gone on a low-budget cruise line and had not gotten the elegance and service she had assumed was part of every cruise. She had not investigated the options or talked to anyone about different cruises. You can avoid this disappointment by taking the time to talk to your partner about what you want, then take some time to research your choices. We know that your wedding plans are your first priority, but your travel plans are our first and only priority, and we have the expertise to help you find the options that best fit your expectations and help you plan a realistic budget to have the honeymoon or destination wedding you expect. Call us at 253-617-7200 or visit our website at www.travelcenter4u.com to find out more about making sure your expectations become your reality.

Location, Location, Location ヨ 10/24/06
Are you imagining a sunset in the background as you exchange vows? Or are you planning a large cathedral wedding? Either way, the location plays an important part of establishing the atmosphere for the wedding. If you are planning an outdoor wedding, have a back up plan in case the weather doesnメt cooperate. Having large tents, heaters and coolers on hold can help ensure that your event stays outdoors.
Because there are so many places you can have your ceremony, we like to be invited to the wedding rehearsal ナ or at least do a walk-through well in advance of the actual wedding day. The reason: We will be better able to determine where weメll need the camera at various times throughout the ceremony if we are able to do some advance planning. Weメll also be able to check lighting and other equipment weメll need to bring to insure your wedding photos are of the highest quality possible.

YOUR BRIDAL SHOWER/BACHELORETTE PARTY
The bridal shower/bachelorette party is a great way for everyone to get together in order to honor the bride-to-be through a display of love and friendship. Whether itメs a traditional bridal shower or a wild bachelorette party, here are some things for you to think about:
- Who do you want to plan the event? Traditionally, itメs the maid-of-honor; family and friends can also help. Itメs also a good idea for those involved to discuss the budget ahead of time.
- Who do you want to come? Be honest with who you want (or donメt want) to be there. Provide you ideal guest list to your maid-of-honor ヨ it will be less of a hassle in the long run. Will it be a モGirls Night Outヤ or are the men welcomed as well? Invitations can be printed with a follow-up phone call the day before as a quick reminder.
- When? You may not want to have your party the night before your wedding for the obvious ヨ puffy eyes, hangover ヨ so have it a few weeks before the wedding. Itメll be a great break from the chaos of your wedding planning for all involved.
- What to do? There are plenty of websites for ideas on games and entertainment. If you do (or donメt) want a stripper or two, please let someone know!
Whatever you choose, express your feelings and desires to your wedding party. Sometimes, others may plan a party according to their tastes and assume that you would enjoy the same. You are the bride-to-be and this is a special event for you ヨ take this opportunity to tell others what you want and you may just get it!
Congratulations to you!

Do You Mean I need to make an appointment?????
Yes. Some of the time the staff will be elsewhere in the bldg....production, design center, marketing, mailing, dark room, plate making, creating, typesetting....etc.....
And, we like to give you our very own personalized attention...the attention your order deserves when you work with us.
We take your emails and the notes from your phone call, and use them to pull cardstocks, and make selections to show you when you arrive.
We don't leave you on your own to figure it all out. We do it for you and with you to make it happen the way you need for us to serve you.
Yes, please make an appointment. On occasion, you "might" get us at a time when we are able to take you, and we hate to see you make a trip when we in fact, can't stop what we are doing, or interrupt other appointments to serve you.
Let us do what we do best, take good care of you with your own time slot set aside "just for you".

How to attach your bridal veil?
Many of my brides are not sure how they should attach their bridal veil to their hair. You can always use a traditional comb. This works well if you are not using a tiara. If you use a tiara it is nice to have the option to continue wearing your tiara and remove your veil easily. I use a small piece of velcro and attach it to the back side of your tiara. You can wear your tiara and veil for the ceremony and then quickly remove the veil for the reception.
Brides frequently want a blusher or second tier over their veil. At the reception this might be a little heavy to carry around. If you want to detach your longer veil but keep your short veil on I can make you a custom veil that is convertible. This means both veils are attached with one comb and the longer veil is quickly removed leaving you ready to move around freely for the reception.
Go to www.heirloomveils.com and order from my custom order page. Choose any attachment. If you have any questions contact me through my CONTACT US page.

Mostly celulite in my middle & thighs, I have lots of energy, & the fats being released very gently & my dress size has gone from a 12 to an 8. I have many brides lose dress sizes in just 4 month before their wedding, resulting in less alterations too.
You can see my photos Sunday Oct 22nd at the Camano Island Senior Center Bridal Show from Noon to 5 pm. I will have samples & lots of info as well as gowns from the Bridal Clearance Center. Stop by to taste the shakes & check out my wedding gown selection.

Read All About It - Newspaper Announcements ヨ 10/21/06
Newspaper announcements let you spread the good news quickly. Newspaper announcements may be worded by you or there may be a form to fill out. Contact your newspaper to find out the details.
If you are planning on running a photo with the announcement, ask for specifics: Will prints be returned? Do they accept digital photos? Announcing your wedding two to three months in advance is traditional but can be run up to a year in advance. A marriage announcement can be run as soon as youメve said the vows.
We like to do a pre-wedding engagement photo session. So, if you know what your newspaper needs for a photo ヨ weメll be happy to provide just what they need.
Did I mention, the engagement session and a large, matted and framed print ヨ are yours for FREE if you schedule your wedding coverage with us?
Give us a call at: (253)405-5461 or e-mail us at: danakehr@comcast.net or check out our website: www.northwest-wedding-photos.com then email us at: danakehr@comcast.net.

Do It Yourself Invitations
If you really want to do your invitations, we will help you. You may even print them yourself with purchasing the already cut cardstock from our "design studio components" complete with pocketfolds, proper cuts and sizes, colors, quantities, envelopes to match or co-ordinate and more.
If you wish to match a color theme and an appropriate color is NOT available, we will find it, and cut it for you, and wrap it up for you to take home and print and do it yourself.
Many graphic designers wish to do this, and save money on printing, etc. but do not have access to the materials we have at our disposal.
We are happy to share our ability to purchase these for you. Just determine the total you require plus some extras for press time spoilage, and place and pay for your order.

Interviewing Vendors #2
I had another quote I was trying to remember and it just came to me regarding questions to ask photographers, caterers, wedding planners, etc...
Remember this:
"People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing!" -Dale Carnegie
Most anyone can tell whether this is true if you talk long enough with a prospective vendor. You know what's really sad...and I've had it happen several times. Thats when I, as a photographer, have had more enthusiasm for the wedding than the bride and groom. It was more important for me than them...thats really sad.
Another topic reminder:
Still time to get in your e-mail describing the most romantic setting/situation you can imagine.
Win a dinner for two at "Outback Steakhouse". Deadline is tonight at 10:00 pm. Read blogs below for more details.

What a Day for the Author
As I am coming down the home stretch of my writing early each morning, I am looking forward to providing brides with the information that they will need to plan their paper product needs in a format that will allow them to also keep enough information about family and friends for the wedding and the beginning of the rest of their lives.
No more notes here and there, and unfinished and numerous addressbooks. With completing the guest list and adding the address sheets to the handbook, a bride will be able to keep it all together for this large part of the plannign process and beyond. She may refer to it when planning her invitations, and programs, and reception information, and beyond.
And, use an overall planner for the mixture of other things that need to be done.
With a careful analysis with bridal consultants, we found that most bridal planners are NOT inclusive enough for brides' needs.
With the celebration of our 80th year, I am looking forward to offering it to you.

Time to take a break from wedding planning!
With most weddings happening in the spring and summer months ahead, remember to take your breaks on wedding planning, and enjoy the holidays that are important to you and your loved ones. Taking a weekend away from normal life is a great way to get your energy back, and appreciate the life you come back too. A quiet weekend alone with your special someone could be as simple as getting in the car, with an over night bag and driving until you find a place you've never been, and experience something new together. The caterers, dj, consultants, flowerist, and everyone else in the wedding plans will be there when you return. Happy holiday season!

I did it myself
It never ceases to amaze me at the ability of brides and grooms to create their own beautiful invitations. The invitation takes on a personality of its own and often reflects the spirit and feelings of the couple. They can be simple or rather complex depending on the time and effort you want to put into it. They never have to be cheap looking. There is a wide variety of metallic and iridescent papers available in a multitude of colors. They can be matched with envelopes of many different styles, shapes and sizes. A simple worded wedding invitation takes on a new elegance with these shimmering papers and envelopes. So donメt be surprised if people start asking you where you got your invitation from. You can be proud to answer back, モI did it myselfヤ.

And the minister went on and on and on and
A friend has found the person they want to spend the rest of their life with and your invitation to their wedding has arrived in the mail. The address of the ceremony is at a local church and dread comes over you. The last wedding ceremony you attended you found yourself nodding off and beginning to snore when your date kicked you awake. You were lucky that time, this time you are a bridesmaid and you get to stand through the never ending droning of the minister. Maybe you can exchange comfortable flats for stylish heels.
Now you are planning your ceremony and the memories of standing and sitting through tedious ceremonies make you cringe. You wouldnメt do that to your friends and family. Thankfully those days are past. Now you can personalize your wedding ceremony to last as long as you wish, from 20 minutes, no more than 30. Options for keeping your ceremony lively and free from snores include mixing it up with a meaningful tradition, having a friend read a poem or sing a song. Create some fun with your ceremony so that it becomes a priceless memory for you, family and friends.
Have the wedding that's talked about how fun or beautiful the ceremony was, not the one your guests sleep through

Referrals from wedding professionals
Are you looking for the perfect caterer? Have everything else in place but still can't find an officiant? Try asking the vendors you've already booked for your wedding for referrals. Who better to refer you to other wedding professionals than the people you've already chosen for your special day?
We as wedding professionals attend many weddings each year so when someone comes recommended by one of us it carries a lot of weight. And if you've already hired us, we know what you're looking for. Even if we can not recommend someone specifically, we can help point you in the right direction.
Ask your wedding vendors for referrals to help you find everyone you need for your wedding day. We are happy to help!

Response Card Wording
One of the things I suggest to brides is replacing the proverbial "M_______________________________" line with the word
Name_______________________________________
Then,
Accepts _______ Regrets _____
Number of persons ________
Number of vegeterian dinner(s) needed _______
Your email address ___________________________________________
By receiving the email addresses of your guests, you may send out more information that a guest may need than you supplied on the map/accommodation and directions card.
If you are adding menu selections to the response card, we will help you make it fit.
A trend with the pocketfold invitations is to make the response card a postcard response that assimilates into the design.
Postcard response cards are not generally created by designers of album invitation to match the ensemble you select.
For more information on specific needs for response wording, always ask your wedding stationery consultant for details.

FREE Engagement photos...why?
Because...every couple needs that transition picture?
NO.
Because...you want to drag your guy shopping for the right "outfit"?
NO.
Because I include them in every package and they're free?
Maybe;-)
There are two reasons, one is rational and logical, the other is strictly of the heart.
RATIONAL: We as a wedding photography team (you, him, & I) need to get to know each other BEFORE the wedding, preferably in a photographic setting. Perfect idea you say? YES...perfect. I get to see that you blink every three seconds and that his attention drifts even more frequently than you blink. We need to discover these little challenges and conquor them before the wedding. Okay...right...makes infinite sense! Yes. But read the following carefully and don't miss the point.
THE HEART: I have shared this absolutely true story a few times, and it never fails to crack my voice a bit, it always gets me...because it's true.
I booked Jack and Jill's (you understand about name discretion) wedding and arranged the engagement session in Carmel, California, land of Ansel Adams. This is the arguably the most romantic and beautiful coastal region in the United States. I did a lot of sessions there.
Jill wanted the perfect day and Jack wanted whatever Jill wanted. Smart groom!
So, we shopped there for the perfect dre$$ and the perfect $hirt and $lacks...got everything. Photographed them eating lunch in the sidewalk cafe, eating ice cream cones, shopping for diamonds and Ferra-ferrari-ferraaariiee...fast cars.
Photographed them at the Carmel Mission...exquisite light! Then finished up at sunset at Carmel beach overlooking Pebble Beach. It was a magical day, really. They had the time of their life...a day to remember.
Back at the studio...we projected the previews and they made their choice of several, with one being a 24x30 which we mounted on canvas and framed with the finest frame available. They were not rich people, but this was important to them...to Jill.
They paid the $1,500+ price, drove away happily. We photographed the wedding, it was perfect. Perfection doesn't happen that often in weddings, but it did that day. Album done, delivered, all is well.
I'm out in front of the studio one day when Jack drives up..."hey, how's everything Jack?" "Good" he says, "Jill sends her love...blah, blah."
"Robert, can I share something with you?"(duh)"When we ordered that 24x30, I secretly was thinking...that overpriced photographer...$1,500.00 for one picture? Thats a lot of money, but jill seems to want it pretty badly...we'll get it"
"Last month, we had the fight I thought we'd never have. It was horrible! I packed two huge bags, and was walking out...never to return...when I walked through the living room...and I saw our beautiful canvas, lighted, framed, perfect...overlooking the sea and the beach."
"I stopped and thought. That was not a picture of us, it defined our coupleness, our life together, our commitments to each other and the marraige. It reminded me of what we were about."
"I remembered what she meant to me. I turned, went back to appologise to the woman who is not perfect nor am I, but that picture is now worth a million dollars to me."
That's why...free engagement sessions...with wall prints...in every package.
I believe in what I do for couples, it's why I continue to do it.

Robert's Top 10 Questions to ask Photographers
Besides as to whether you like the candidate...you should.
Here are a few things to ask...and get credible thoughtful answers to...
1. How long ya been doing weddings? (duh)
2. WHY ya doing weddings? (LOVE them)
3. How many backup camera rigs ya got? (FOUR at least)
4. How many backup flashes? (four at least)
5. How many batteries & chargers? (six & two)
6. Who takes over when you've sick? (associate, pro)
7. How many years studied, under whom and where? (lots-verifiable)
8. What's your wedding philosophy? (yours)
9. How ya goin to make my day fun? (sound right?)
10.Why should I trust you? (BC prefered list)
11.What do you do when...the groom passes out, the cake falls to the floor, we are two hours late and your perfect light has gone over the horizon, your car is stolen with your camera cases...huh?
You think I'm being silly or ridiculous...BUT...provisions and plans should be in place for every conceivable hurdle that might possibly occur adversely affecting your pictures. Because, (sorry to burst your bubble)as much as I'd like to deny it...some of these things have and can (will) happen to some of you.
So, what ARE they going to do to save the day, thats what professionals do.
These talents and abilities are often more important than your photographers artsy eye or their fifty billion megapixel camera.
They are also talents and skills one develops over...not years...but decades.

FREE... "OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE" dinner contest
I'm bummed. My wood dealer says he can't get me my favorite wood...Madrona...never heard of it before moving here.
What is it about a fire in the fireplace that warms your heart as well as your toes? Does it do this for you guys like it does for me? All is well if I have a warm glow flickering into my living room.
I suppose its the classic "romantic" thing...like candles...roses...and bamboo flyrods. Oh, no flyrods for you? Oh well, what can I say?
I'd really like to hear back from you guys...whats the most romantic setting? Dinner at beachfront seafood restaraunt? A walk in the woods?
Tell ya what...I will offer up a free dinner at Outback to the best/most compelling description of a romantic setting. This is an honest offer, but I suppose not completely fair because the determing non-objective (thereby subjective)standards for winning are entirely up to me. Compelling is the key word!
The offer is open for three days, Wednday, Thursday, Friday til 10:00 PM.
I will post winner's first name and wedding date here, along with her "compelling" e-mail text.
Only rules:
1. Must be clean and decent.
2. Must be under fifty words.
3. Must have setting and WHY.

Setting the Wedding Ambience ヨ 10/17/06
When you think of your dream wedding, what feelings come to mind? What colors, music, and flowers would express those feelings? Instead of picking out what is モinヤ for the season, think of what mood you would like to set for your big day. Think of situations and settings where you felt that mood and try to re-create it to set the ambience for the wedding. Whether you want something wild and funky or serene and peaceful, it should be your dream day.
When we photograph your wedding, we do everything we can to catch the ambience in your digital photos.

Save the Date Bookmarks inserted in Holiday Cards
One of the tips we handed out verbally at The Wedding Show was to have us make save the date bookmarks that you can insert in holiday cards.
It is not too late to do this inexpensive little way of having parents and you and your groom and his parents send them out to those invited to the wedding. Just make sure you get the list(s) of the people they are being sent to for the wedding list ahead of time so you know where you stand with regard to sending out the invitations.
It is a cost effective, easy way of saving the date, and, you may use either a holiday theme or any selection you wish for the bookmark. It does not have to include a ribbon to insure that it fits in the card.
Choose your holiday cards from us or from some other source, department store, etc. with your bookmark in mind. It need to be a longer card to accomplish this.
Look for more tips as the days take us deeper into fall and winter planning days.

What's New in Invitation Color
What's new in color is coming to you in our newsletter which our designer is laying out this morning. Black and white are big, and nautical is very strong. Along with the blues, you may be surprised that a denim look is also in. This just touches the surface...but just like those fashion runways, purple and grape and aubergine and plum are strong dominant colors for weddings!
Take this in and more in our newsletter...and look for more of these and the rest of the favorite color combinations on our site and in bridal magazine dresses for weddings.
Look back here, and write back for more information for your wedding papers.

Camera/Photo brides
I happened to talk to at least six brides that are crazy into cameras and digital photography this week. So, read this re-print from this site.
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htm
It echoes everything I've been preaching for years and years!
*******************************
Why is it that with over 60 years of improvements in cameras, lens sharpness and film grain, resolution and dynamic range that no one has been able to equal what Ansel Adams did back in the 1940s?
Ansel didn't even have Photoshop! How did he do it? Most attempts fall short, some are as good but different like Jack Dykinga, but no one is the same.
Why is it that photographers loaded with the most extraordinary gear who use the internet to get the exact GPS coordinates of Jack's or Ansel's photo locations and hike out there with the image in hand to ensure an exact copy (illegal by US copyright laws and common decency), that they get something that might look similar, but lacks all the impact and emotion of the original they thought they copied?
I'm not kidding. You can read about a bunch of these turkeys here. They used university astronomers to predict the one time in almost two decades that the conditions would match and had 300 of the clueless converge at just the right spot. They still didn't get the clouds, snow or shadows right. This makes Ansel cringe. Of course they didn't get anything like what they wanted.
Compelling photographs come from inspiration, not duplication.
Why is it that even though everyone knows that Photoshop can be used to take any bad image and turn it into a masterpiece, that even after hours of massaging these images look worse than when one started?
Maybe because it's entirely an artist's eye, patience and skill that makes an image and not his tools.
A camera catches your imagination. No imagination, no photo - just crap. The word "image" comes from the word "imagination." It doesn't come come from "lens sharpness" or "noise levels." David LaChapelle's work is all about his imagination, not his camera. Setting up these crazy shots is the hard part. Once set up, any camera could catch them. Give me David LaChapelle's camera and I won't get anything like he does, even if you give me the same star performers.
The only reason I have a huge lens in my photo on my home page is so I don't have to say "photographer" or "photography." The lens makes it obvious much quicker than words. That's what visual communication is all about: thinking long and hard to make your point clearly and quickly. I haven't used that huge lens in years.
Just about any camera, regardless of how good or bad it is, can be used to create outstanding photographs for magazine covers, winning photo contests and hanging in art galleries. The quality of a lens or camera has almost nothing do with the quality of images it can be used to produce.
Joe Holmes' limited-edition 13 x 19" prints of his American Museum of Natural History series sell at Manhattan's Jen Bekman Gallery for $650 each. They're made on a D70.
There are plenty of shows selling shots from Holgas for a lot more money, just that those folks don't tell me about it. Holgas sell for $14.95, brand new, here. You can see an award-winning shot made with a Holga hanging in Washington, D.C.'s Hemicycle Gallery of the Corcoran Museum of Art in their 2006 Eyes of History competition of the White House News Photographers Association here.
Walker Evans once said "People always ask me what camera I use. It's not the camera, it's - - - " and he tapped his temple with his index finger.
Jesus Christ's dad Joseph built a masterpiece of a wooden staircase in a church in New Mexico in 1873, and does anyone care what tools he used? Search all you want, you'll find plenty of scholarly discussion but never of the tools.
Your equipment DOES NOT affect the quality of your image. The less time and effort you spend worrying about your equipment the more time and effort you can spend creating great images. The right equipment just makes it easier, faster or more convenient for you to get the results you need.
******************************************
It's not the equipment, it's the photographer! Nuff said??

Is a Wedding Planner Worth it??
Ask almost any vendor and they will most whole-heartedly reply, YES!
Your wedding planner offers a front line to your vendors, ensuring that all parties understand and comply with their responsibilities. She can cut down on miscommunications, and help make sure that everyone involved enjoys a lower-stress event.
She can also negotiate with the vendors to ensure you are receiving the best products, services or time, for the price. She often knows which vendors specialize in particular areas, and possibly which vendors would be better suited to a different event.
A wedding planner often knows ways of cutting costs without sacrificing style. She can also help you prioritize to use your available funds to its best advantage.
Many times a wedding planner can actually save you money!
Plus, there is also the モstress factorヤ. As the wedding draws nearer, the bride needs to take time to pamper herself, sleeping well, and avoiding stress, to look and feel her very best for her big day! All those little, (or big) last-minute details can become a very heavy burden to carry alone! No bride wants to find out that there has been a mix-up with the wedding cake moments before sheメs supposed to walk down the aisle. (true story!) Never underestimate the value of having a professional there to manage any emergencies which may arise, making sure that the day runs smoothly, usually with no one the wiser!
So is paying for a wedding planner worth it? She is immense help to and with the varying vendors, ensuring you are getting what you want, for the best price possible, from the most qualified providers; she can help you manage your budget, suggesting alternatives where applicable; and she can offer major stress management for the bride and her モcourtヤ. The answer seems simple! If you would like to know more, Iメd love to sit down with you for a free consultation to discuss your wedding! Please email me at sara@sarandipityplanning.com or visit my web-site at www.sarandipityplanning.com!

Fun Weddings: how do you make sure your vendors GET IT?
What is it that is going to make your special princess day fun? It's YOUR day dog-gone-it!!
Yeah, vendors are trumpeting those words...but what do they really do? How are they going to act at your wedding?
How do you make sure that boring, stick in the mud vendors don't throw cold water on you and your guests...extiguishing all hope of spontenaity and joy?
You get a vibe from them when you deal with them.
Do they express genuine excitement, not just for your wedding, but for life in general? Or do they drone on like you're the five hundreth phone call that day?
Do you like them? How do you know they aren't just putting on an act to get your hard earned $$$$
the answer??? spend time withem...mmmm. sounds liek the "E" word is in order...effort. Talk to them...a lot. Listen to them...a lot. It's like the old "quality time" issue...how do tyou know when that quality is going to show itself? tthe more time you put in interviewing...the better the odds it'll happen...you'll know.

Obnoxious photographers
I think I dislike thenm more than you do. I've spent...mmmm...many years un-becomeing one. They boss you around, they swagger, take thousands of dollars and tell you how lucky you are to have them.
Not me! Who needs that? Do you want that? Got a horror story to share with us?
Anyway, I wanna have fun at your wedding. I want YOU to have fun on your wedding day. I can make it happen. It's taken me many years to be able to relax, let the day unfold, create beauty and calm midst the "potential" of stress. It doen't have to be stressfull.

Is a Wedding Planner Worth it??
Ask almost any other vendor, and they will most whole-heartedly answer, YES!
A wedding planner helps all the other vendors by providing a clear line of communication. She also makes sure that all parties understand their roles and expections of each other. Additionally, she will often know which vendors specialize in certain areas which are important to the bride--and which ones might be better sutied to a different theme.
The wedding planner often knows ways of cutting costs without sacrificing style. She can negotiate with vendors to ensure the best possible price for the products, time and services provided.
Then there is the "stress factor". As the wedding day draws closer, everyone's stress level seems to rise exponentially. During a time when the Bride should be trying to relax and get lots of rest, all the little details can become a very heavy burden to carry alone. The wedding planner is the front line to keep all the details in order, allowing the bride to let all the stress fall to the planner! This holds doubly true for the day of her wedding. No bride wants to find out that there has been a mix-up with the cake just before she walks down the aisle! (true story!) Hiccups sometimes do happen on a wedding day--the wedding planner is there to minimize the damage and keep things running smoothy, usually with no one the wiser!
So is a Wedding Planner worth it? She makes up her fee in saved vendor fees, stress to the bride and her "court" and in carrying out a beautifully orchestrated wedding day....YOURS! Why we say the things we say for the wedding ceremony...
Have you ever wondered why we say the things we say during a wedding ceremony? Maybe this will help with some history from the Midevil period of Europe.
Excerp from The History of the Wife by Marilyn Yalom:
It should take only a slight effort to follow the priest's archaic language as he addresses the people:
" Lo, bretheren we are comen here before God and his angels and all his halowes, in the face and presence of our moder holy Chyrche, for to couple and to knyt these two bodydes togyder...If there be any of you that can say any thynge why these two may not lawfully be wedded togyder at this tyme, say it nowe."
Then the priest says to the man:
"Wylt thou haue this woman to thy wyfe and loue her and keep her, in sykenes and in helthe, and in all other gegrese be to her as a husbande sholde bae to his wyfe, and all other forsake for her, and holde the only to her to lyues endes."
The man answers "I wyll."
The priest then uses similiar language for the woman, with the additional words "and to be buxum to hym, serue hym," which means to be obedient to him and serve him.
The woman answers "I wyll."
At this point the priest asks:
"Who gyues me this wyfe?"
The woman is usually given away by her father. This part of the marriage ceremony recalls the ancient assumption that the daughter was "gifted" by her father to he husband.
Then the groom takes the bride by the right hand with his right hand - as in the Roman ceremony - and pledges his troth, saying after the priest:
"Here I take the ( fill in the name ) to my wedded wyfe, to haue and to halde, at bedde and at borde, for fayrer for fouler, for better for warse, in sekeness and in hele, tyl dethe us departe."
And the woman makes the same vows in the same words.
Now the froom places fold, silver, and a ring upon a shield or a book, and the priest blesses the ring, which the groom then places upon the fourth or middle finger of the bride.
Holding his bride by the hand, he says after the priest:
"With this ring I wedde thee, and with this golde and siluer I honoure thee, and with this gyft I dowe thee."
So if you ever wanted to know how the modern marriage ceremony came about, just look into history, we've been saying the same thing for almost 1,000 years :)

Laurel's Floral Decor
Hello Everyone!
Wow, what a great year this has been so far! I just love designing weddings! I have met so many people who I have established life long relationships with. Your wedding day is so important, and I love to make it a day you will never forget! I want to thank all the brides and their families for choosing and entrusting me to do one of the most important days in their life!
I love the challenge of creating beautiful floral designs and filling a room with the colors and scents of beautiful flowers! To me, flowers make the wedding!

Unity Candle Nightmare!
As a guest at weddings I have seen many stressed brides and grooms trying to light a unity candle with no success. They key is to pre-light the candle prior to the ceremony. Let it burn 15 to 30 minutes in order to prepare the wick for lighting during the ceremony. This trick will never let you down.

HOW TO LOVE A WOMAN
Below are excerpts from an article by Dr. Ava Cadell, the Love Guru (for the entire article and more, visit http://www.avacadell.com/). Print this article and place it somewhere for your partner to read! They may not be able to read our minds, but they can read!
How to Love a Woman
Always make your lover the center of your attention. Don't answer the phone or pager while youメre with her intimately. If youメre married with children, tell them mom and dad need to have their private play time (and then make them honor that). Turn off the TV if you donメt want to turn off your woman. Bring home little trinkets for no special reason. A single flower or some chocolates will let her know that you were thinking about her, even when she wasnメt with you.
Let your lover know that sheメs making a positive difference in your life. And show her how much you appreciate her by doing little things for her; the dishes, making her breakfast in bed or writing her love letters. Give her lots of compliments; physical, mental, emotional and appreciative ones.
You can never be too romantic or too old-fashioned when it comes to winning a womanメs heart. Take her on romantic walks or surprise her with a picnic lunch and you canメt go wrong. Always kiss her goodbye and give her a big welcome home and donメt miss an opportunity to kiss her at unexpected times in unexpected places.
Let her know what you love about her the most. Phone her in the middle of the day just because you want to hear her voice. Take her on a fantasy date once a week. Record a message of love for her to listen to when she gets home from work.
Okay, you get the idea. Todayメs woman, like those of previous generations, wants a knight in shining armor. You may not have the horse or armor, but it is, and always has been, the chivalry that counts.

Wedding stamp from USPS
Something to consider and often overlooked is the postage stamp. The U.S. Postal Service introduced a new booklet of stamps designed especially for mailing wedding invitations and RSVPs. The Our Wedding booklet contains 20 one-ounce and 20 two-ounce first-class stamps. Each one-ounce stamp is intended for use on the RSVP envelope often enclosed with a wedding invitation. Each two-ounce stamp will accommodate the heavier weight of a wedding invitation with enclosures. The one-ounce first-class stamp is also available by itself in a pane of 20 self-adhesive stamps.
Artist Michael Osborne designed the 2006 Our Wedding stamps especially for mailing wedding invitations and RSVPs. Both stamps feature an illustration of a white doveラa time-honored symbol of peace, love, and fidelityラand a heart, surrounded by calligraphic flourishes set against a lavender background (one-ounce denomination) and a light green background (two-ounce denomination). The stamp maybe viewed at http://shop.usps.com.
