Caterer who likes taking pictures

I take photos at wedding when I remember to bring my cameras just for the fun of it, and it's nice to have some of those behind the scene moments for your wedding album, or website.

Just an added perk for hiring us. I like to take candid photos of your guests from the bar, or being thrown into a pool at the end of the night, which ever happens. :)

I like the before and after wedding photos, grooms men walking around with shaving cream on their face still, shirtless, or the cute little kids running around doing the things kids do best, being unperdictable.

When hiring your real photographer, experience, and sample presentation are a key to picking the right person to do your posed portraits, and leave the candids to me. :)

Costa Rica and Belize offer adventure on your honeymoon!

Central America offers a special mix of eco and adventure travel with all the creature comforts necessary for an outstanding honeymoon. Costa Rica and Belize are the most popular destinations and both are peaceful countries that welcome tourism.

In Costa Rica youメll find rainforests, jungle, pristine beaches, exotic animals and active volcanoes. Many vacationers have too little time to see it all, but a very nice itinerary combines a few days near Arenal Volcano or the Monteverde Cloud Forest with some beach time on the Guanacaste Peninsula or near Manuel Antonio or Corcovado National Parks.

Belize is home to one of the worldメs largest barrier reefs and offers active adventurers a full range of land and sea activities. The diving and deep sea fishing are world class, you can hike in the lush, dense interior, or explore nearby Mayan ruins. And, when itメs time to slow down, you can pick a lovely quiet stretch of beach and simply relax!

Jobs in tourism are highly sought in Central America so itメs not unusual to find a botanist conducting your nature walk or marine biologist leading your snorkel trip. Area guides are proud of their country and enjoy sharing their special part of the world. So take advantage, ask questions and enjoy the experience!

Accommodations range from basic to luxurious and include traditional hotels, cabanas, lodges and villas. Guided tours are offered for those wishing a bit of structure and independent travelers can choose a self drive itinerary or include ground or air transfers in a package.

The weather is warm year round but there is definitely a モgreen seasonヤ so contact our Central America specialist, Linda, when itメs time to plan your trip. Sheメll help you plan the perfect adventure!

Invitations Your Way

I am interested in knowing what brides want when it comes to wedding invitations and accessories. Are you more concerned with budget or style? Quantity or quality? What's the most you would spend on invitations and how important are they in planning your wedding or party event?

Invitations say a lot about what your wedding day will look like. Invitations should be chosen based on your event theme and should reflect your personality or persona. Invitations are important and should be considered part of your investment. Depending on how many people are attending your event, quality should matter most! But of course, the people attending usually means that budget is cut on invitations. My advice,,,be meticulous about choosing the right invitations...they will be memoirs for you and many of your attendees! It's like looking back in your highschool yearbook and wishing you hadn't worn that outfit for pictures...smile! (I've been there!)

Well, if you have any questions on how to choose the best option for you, please feel free to email me at eillon05@yahoo.com or info@eillonenterprisesllc.com.
Thanks and God Bless!

LUMINEERS

Dr. Debbie Ozment has been enhancing smiles since 1985. With a strong cosmeticdentistry education and years of experience, she can provide you with the most current technology, like LUMINEERS. She is very excited to be offering the leading edge of cosmetic dentistry with LUMINEERS. Ultra-thin LUMINEERS can drastically transform worn, stained and misshapen teeth without the need for shaving or grinding down sensitive tooth structure. The whole process is so simpleand comfortable you won't need any shots or even a post-placement aspirin.

Traditional veneers involve shots being given to numb the area and teeth are severly shaved away with a drill to accomodate the thick veneers. After the veneers are placed there is a possibility for pain and discomfort because the teeth were shaved down. This procedure is not reversible.

A Certificate of Authenticity and Warranty Card is included with every LUMINEERS case. If there is anything about your smile you don't like, you owe it to yourself to come in for a complimentary smile analysis! Call us today at 405-752-0111.

School fundraisers and wedding favors.

As my due date approaches for baby #2, I wanted to pass out personalized chocolate bars to the friends and family that came to visit instead of the cigars.

My older grade schooler came home with an America's finest chocolate order forms for a school camping trip fund raiser, and I thought, why not get two birds with one stone? So I bought 100 assorted bars from her to go toward her trip and it only cost me $100.00 total.

I printed up a variety of three lined assorted messages on color paper, for each occasion, like my husband passing them out at work, for her class, and our family and friends.

Mind you, it requires cutting, taping, and sorting the bars for a special event, but all the little hands on things make your event extra special.

So if you know of an organization selling bars of chocolate, maybe think twice about giving to the community and saving yourself a lot of money on what could end up as a sweet wedding favor!

Prevent wedding gown yellowing - Store your gown in an acid-free bag

Did you know that storing your wedding dress in a vinyl garment bag puts it at risk for yellowing? Many brides need to store their dress for a few months before her wedding. But the fumes from most all plastics can yellow white textiles. You should store your gown in an acid-free environment. Cotton is perfect for preservation and has been for centuries (remember those mummies?) Un-bleached, cotton makes a perfect acid-free storage bag for wedding dresses.

After the wedding, storing your wedding gown in acid-free cotton is also excellent. Be sure that your gown has been thoroughly cleaned before putting it away.

Those "must have" wedding songs

It was so much fun at the Trias wedding in Edmonds, everyone seemed to be having a good time, and the DJ started playing the macaraina, and ....the picture tells the rest. There are just some songs that every wedding must have, and this is always a fun one.

BAND OR DJ?..why not BOTH?

If you are planning a wedding, your toughest decision may be モDo I have a DJ or a モliveヤ band?" For some, budget alone can answer this question, but for others it is simply a matter of musical taste and preferences.

If you hire a DJ, you know that you will hear your favorite songs exactly as you know them from the radio and your cd collection...NO surprises. On the other hand, nothing can replace the energy and atmosphere that GOOD live music can bring to your reception.

We all know the stereotype of a cheesy wedding band...a bunch of old, school teacher-looking, mediocre sounding cheese balls in dated tuxedos singing tired renditions of モWind Beneath My Wingsヤ, The Miami Sound Machine, and モYMCAヤ.
These types of acts, along with the モMoney Danceヤ and other slow-dying trends have thankfully all but disappeared from weddings.

Todayメs best wedding bands and DJs are typically in tune with the needs and wishes of todayメs brides. While they may still look like school teachers, many of the bands on the market are experienced players who know how to read and react to a crowd and what moves them to the dance floor.

You should try to see the band or DJ you are hiring in action at one of their モgigsヤ. This will give you an idea of how they interact with a crowd. Of course, since most of the best モgigsヤ are private parties, donメt expect to have this luxury, particularly if you are hiring an act that plays mainly at exclusive clubs and resorts. You wouldnメt want some curious onlookers crashing YOUR wedding, would you?

Most acts have a demo video to show you and will be happy to send you one. This will suffice as your audition in most cases, provided that the video is done professionally and shows the band or DJ in an actual モliveヤ setting, rather than just lip-syncing against a curtain in a warehouse somewhere.

After playing for countless wedding receptions in the past 25 years, my experience tells me that it is best to use a band/DJ combination if you can afford to do it that way. Or have the band burn you a cd of your favorite dance songs for later in the night. At $1 per download, you can fill a cd with a full night of dance favorites for the bandメs breaks for $20. Some bands will even mix your favorite songs "DJ" style so that the music is continuous. You just need to ask and find out what the charge for this might be ($100 will usually do itナand it is cheaper that hiring a DJ in addition to the band!).

Of course, REAL Deejaying has become an art unto itself, and you may have seen a great DJ at a club that you want for your party. Most DJs will work well in tandem with a band and it is a great touch for your party. Your guests will get their fill of any live band after 3 hours, and letting a DJ take over with some モbootieヤ music to close out the night ALWAYS works well to my experience.

Considerations for Outdoor Weddings and Receptions

Considering a Garden Wedding? Here is a list of things to consider:

1. Formal or informal setting?
2. What size of wedding party can the space accommodate?
3. Are there changing areas for the wedding members?
4. Covered area in case of inclement weather for ceremony? For reception?
5. Seating for guests or shall they stand?
6. What is provided for the wedding party use? ie: candelabra, plant stands, podium, chairs, tables, tent, cutlery, dishes, glasses, coffee pot, tea service, kitchen and /or running water, waste receptacles
7. Is there a bathroom facility?
8. Is there adequate and close parking? Special Needs accommodation?
9. Is the landscape easily accessible?

PLANNING A WEDDING TWO YEARS AWAY?

Long engagements are becoming more popular and are not unusual. Many couples like to finish college or have time to save for the big day. Your wedding day will arrive quicker than you think. It is smart to start your planning early.

Forget about mailing save-the-date cards now unless you are planning a destination wedding. Inform guests and friends to expect an invitation in a year.

Before you start your planning 2 years in advance, the first step to accomplish is determining your budget. Will your parents contribute?

Secondly, research the costs of photographers, florists, DJメs, and reception sites.

Third, save, save, save! Two years in advance should nearly pay for your dream wedding. It is smart to place your wedding savings into a money-market account until you absolutely have to take it out to pay for vendors ヨ let your wedding savings earn more money for you!

Fourth, the more time you have to plan - the greater chance you have at reserving your ultimate selection. Choose your site now!

We would love to talk with you. We are great wedding planners here at Lumina! Book your wedding photography early ヨ that way you can get the 2007 price!

Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

New Passport Guidelines for Honeymooners

How do the new passport rules affect you and your honeymoon plans? Well, for starters, gone are the days when we can hop on a plane or cruise to Mexico or the Caribbean with a swimsuit, a photo ID and a birth certificate. Big changes are ahead for us all.

Everyone will be required to show a valid passport when traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central & South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

THE GOOD NEWS: if you are going to a U.S. territory like Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands (St Thomas, St John, St Croix), you can still travel with your birth certificate and a government issued photo ID.

EVEN MORE GOOD NEWS: many islands and resorts have a 'Passport Promo' where they will refund you for your passport purchase or renewal, or give you a room credit for meals and beverages equal to the cost of your passport. Your honeymoon travel agent will have all the details.

WHEN DO THESE NEW REQUIREMENTS GO INTO EFFECT?
The deadline keeps changing so check with your travel agent often for travel updates.

Currently, if you are traveling by air, you need a passport starting on January 23, 2007. Yes, the deadline has already passed! This means that if you are traveling outside of the U.S. on your honeymoon, you must have a valid passport or you will be denied airplane boarding.

If you are traveling by land or by sea, you need a passport starting January 2008.

I strongly advise all cruise passengers to get a passport. If you miss the ship (for any reason, including weather) and have to catch up in a foreign port, you are going to have a problem flying there without a passport! The cruise lines consider this a 'no-show' and you will not be eligible for a refund.

APPLYING FOR YOUR FIRST PASSPORT
To get your first passport, you need to go (yes, in person) to a passport agency. Bring with you:
* Two photographs of yourself;
* Proof of U.S. citizenship (ex: your birth certificate);
* A valid form of photo identification such as a driver's license;
* A passport application form.

Passport agencies are usually a post office, government office or public library. You cannot apply for your first passport online. To find an agency near you, visit: http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/

Your first passport will get you through the next 10 years and will cost $97 for ages 16 or older. (Over a 10 year period, the cost is about the same price as one of those fancy island drinks with umbrellas in them.) Child passports last for five years and cost $82.

Passports generally take about 6 weeks to process, during busier vacation months the wait can be as long as 12 weeks. Leave plenty of time for passport applications/renewals or utilize expedited passport services (for an additional hefty fee).

PASSPORT RENEWALS
Good news -- skip the lines and renew by mail.

The Bottom Line: Don't delay - get a Passport today!

Information on obtaining or renewing a U.S. Passport can be found on the State Department's Web site at http://www.travel.state.gov/passport

U.S. Citizens may find the following web site helpful in planning their trip: http://travel.state.gov

Foreign Nationals should contact their respective governments to obtain details regarding current passport requirements and application procedures.

Remember, there are many special offers by islands in the Caribbean very willing to entice honeymooners with passport promotions. Take advantage of these offers - it takes very little effort on your part to provide the information and can result in a substantial savings for you. Your travel agent will have all the details and should be able to steer you towards the islands and resorts offering these promotions, as well as forwarding your paperwork for reimbursement. And if it's too late to think about passports - the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are fabulous honeymoon destinations!

Explore your dreams...
Christine

Hawaii, Fiji or Tahiti

Many brides have the vision of a tropical paradise for their honeymoon. The bungalow on the beach or even over the water hut with the glass window in the floor so you can see the fishes swin underneath your feet. Sounds fantastic doesn't it! Of course it does.

Since Hawaii, Fiji, and Tahiti seem to be time after time the most "romantic places" to go on your honeymoon I thought I would break them down.

Hawaii is about 6 hour flight from here in Las Vegas. Many flights are direct, but sometimes they stop in either LA or San Fran. Many people are unsure of which island to choose or if they have time they often do a multi island stop.

Maui is one of my favorites just because there are a great deal of activities to do on the island. There are the black sand beaches, 7 sacred pools, road to Hana, and Kaanapali Beach (voted best beach by the Travel Channel).

Kauai is know for being really laid back and over course the Napali Coast line which is breath taking and highly recommend seeing it by helicopter. Poipu beach is a nice seculded are as is the Princeville area on the North side of the island.

Oahu a very lively city kind of reminds me of Vegas just without the slot machines. Of course there is the famous Waikiki Beach and the North Shore. Usually this island is the most affordable, but many resorts are high rises so oceanviews or beachfront are limited.

The Big Island is also a favorite for many due to the active volcano, waterfalls, and helicopter tours.

All island in Hawaii are beautiful and they can all cater to your travel time and budget. Food and gas if you do a rental car are more expensive then at home just due to the fact they have to ship everything in from the mainland.

Tahiti - is mostly known for its over water bungalows and the romance of Bora Bora and Moorea. These are the 2 most popular islands. The French Polynesian islands of Tahiti are plentiful with lots of activites such as snorkeling, ATV, horseback riding, parasailing, and fantastic diving.
There are direct flights from Los Angeles to Tahiti daily. Most people depending on flight time arrival then usually proceed unto Bora Bora, Moorea, or Rangiroa. The flight is about 8 1/2 hours. The inter island flights are like 10 minutes. The most important factor to consider when thinking about Tahiti is that it is owned by the French so it is on the Euro so with our US dollar exchange rate it is expensive once you are over there to purchase food and beverage. I would highly recommend $100.00 a day per person to cover meals and drinks.

Fiji - is a beautiful area, but the people are what will set your honeymoon a part from anything else you have experienced in the past. They are so kind and the service is exceptional. Fiji is also broken down into many different little islands so most people will continue on by seaplane or by boat to another island to stay at their resort. Bure (or bungalow) is a popular room product in Fiji. Many resorts are small with 16 or less rooms. Fiji is also nice because many resorts are all inclusive so once you are there you don't have to worry about anything. Not to mention they are on the Fijian dollar so we get twice for our money when it is exchanged into Fijian money. Some say the down side is that it is a 10 hour direct flight from Los Angeles(most depart at 11:30pm) and on the way there you cross the dateline so you lose a day of travel. Fiji has exceptional diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, cultural activities, waterfalls, and hiking.

If you would like a quote for any of these locations please feel free to contact me at Laurie@allabouthoneymoons.com or www.laurie.allabouthoneymoons.com.

Rehearsal Dinner

There are a number of ways to making your rehearsal dinner memorable and fun. Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner is the occasion for the bride and groomメs families to meet. Couples now are using the occasion to celebrate, socialize, and relax before the big day.

When to have your dinner?
Most wedding couples host their rehearsal dinner a night or two before the wedding. Some choose to do the ceremony run-through before or after dinner.

Does it have to be at a restaurant?
No, your rehearsal dinner can be in your parentメs backyard. BBQメs are the best, and tend to be the most enjoyed.

Who Pays?
Traditionally the groomメs parents pay, but now both parents are sharing the costs.

Who to invite?
All members of your wedding party must be invited ヨ spouses and dates are a nice gesture to invite. Parents, stepparents, grandparents, siblings, and out of town guests should be invited, but at your decision.

Attire?
Dress according to the rehearsal dinnerメs style. Never dress more formal than the actual wedding.

Your rehearsal dinner is also a great time to give the wedding party their thank-you gifts ヨ especially if they will be wearing them in the wedding.

Make sure to thank all your guests, and those who made a toast. Toast each other, and then thank your hosts.

We would love to talk with you. Please call us at (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding day dreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

Please be on time!

Hello, I had an interesting thing happen this past weekend. I did a wedding with my favorite bridal hair stylist, Mariah Nicole, and we arrived at the bride's hotel precisely on time to set up and start. We had asked the wedding co-ordinator for the bride's room number so that we wouldn't be held up in the lobby at reception waiting while they called up to the room. In times past, if the bride was in the shower or the hair person's dryer was loud, noone would hear the call and I'd sit in the lobby getting later and later to start.
No one answered the room's door so we traipsed back down to the lobby where we were told that the room should have been occupied and thast there was another room but it wasn't checked into yet.
Well, 1/2 hour later, the bride called us(she hadn't answered her cell phone when we called her)to ask where we were! She had slept in the room that supposedly wasn'r occupied and didn't hear her phone. Her parents HAD slept in the suite we were going to work in but didn't bother to answer the phone!
So, what's the point of all this? Well, as a vendor, I pride myself on never being late and I try to cover all bases so that I am never the source of any problems or upsets. My job is to create a safe space for the bride and maintain a peaceful and creative work area.
As a bride, you can help by being mindful of your wedding schedule, keeping all communications maintained right up until the preparations get started and being on time.
PS Everyone looked fabulous!

Ten Tips To Make Sure Your Honeymoon Is Perfect

Hello again!

Through the years I have been asked by many brides and grooms if I have any advice to help them in their honeymoon planning. For this purpose, I have put together a list of useful tips that will help you and your fiance as you begin planning your first trip together. Read through them - you're bound to find one or two that apply to you!

1. Use an experienced honeymoon travel agent. Thanks to many years of expertise and time-saving computerized systems, we can almost always save you money as well as time. Plus, weメve been pretty much everywhere. Take advantage of our knowledge and advice ヨ itメs free!

2. Start early. The sooner the better. That way, youメll have plenty of time to research your tripラitメs actually part of the fun!ラand youメll be more likely to get exactly what you want. (Some places are reserved as much as a year in advance for popular dates. Airlines release their lower priced seats way before most honeymooners start to plan and destinations with limited seasonal weather ヨ like Bermuda ヨ get snapped up quickly!) And for those of you with holiday time weddings - remember - you're not the only ones thinking of Hawaii at Christmas!

3. Plan together. After all, this honeymoon is for both of you. If one of you does all the planning and makes all the decisions, the other may end up feeling left out or dissatisfied. Provide your agent with as much information as possible so she can help you find the destination that suits you both.

4. Be as specific as possible. Queen-size bed or King? Ocean view or ocean front? Connecting flights or non-stop? You get the idea!

5. Set a tentative budget. Talk about your expectations and priorities so you can agree about what youメll splurge on and where youメll save. Suggestion: Splurge on your accommodations. Even if you think you wonメt spend much time there, youメll probably be sorry if itメs not special, after all, this is your honeymoon.

6. Register for your honeymoon with your travel agent. A Honeymoon Gift Registry means gifts from friends and family can be put toward the total cost of your trip. The average couple who uses a gift registry gets $500 to $1,000. This can make the difference between a standard room and an ocean view, or a 7 night honeymoon instead of 5 nights.

7. Use your maiden name. Unless youメre taking a delayed honeymoon, you wonメt be able to change your name on your passport, driverメs license, etc., until after youメve returned. Even though you may be excited to start using your new married name, it can be a real nightmare if you havenメt legally changed it yet. Using your maiden name on visas, airline tickets, etc., so they match your name as it appears on your official documents, is essential to avoiding delays, or worse yet, being denied airline or cruise ship boarding.

8. Pack a sense of humor. A bit of flexibility can go a long way. Expect that things donメt always go as planned. Do what you can to remedy the situation, call your agent if you need help, then relax and enjoy your honeymoon. Years, or even a few hours later, youメll probably be laughing.

9. Relax. Spend your first days recovering from post-wedding stress and focus on each other. Donメt try to do too much ヨ remember, youメll have many opportunities to travel together, but only one honeymoon.

10. Tell the world youメre honeymooners! Donメt be shyラyouメre likely to enjoy special treatment such as complimentary champagne in-flight, or a gift basket in your room.

Explore your dreams...

summer weddings

Ok...we're in the great Pacific Northwest. It's pretty outside, but it can rain if you blink twice. It's a double-edged sword isn't it? Got any good ideas to protect your wedding from the rain?

We've used tents...but that's another blog...for another day.

I guess after being here in the Olympia area for three years, and having been in the northern territories my whole life I should be used to it (the rain) and I am but haveing a wedding outside is a different matter entirely!

I'd hate to gamble my wedding day like that...oh well...what do ya do?

Got any remedies? Let me know. I have been in the business for thirty years but...I can use a helpful hint from anybody...cause I don't know it all...yet ;-)

Give us a call when you'd like to tour our new facility in Olympia.

The Secret - Hawaii Weddings and Event's newest package

モThe Secret to a memorable and successful Hawaii weddingヤ
$1975 (hotel venue) or $2175 (non-hotel venue or two locations)

What is The Secret? Actually, in wedding planning there are many little secrets to successful planning that seasoned professionals have learned through their own experiences, but weメd like to share the three that are the most important ones for you to consider. Number one is having your professional key vendors in place early in the planning process (you want to make decisions based on who you want not just who is available) so basically, the secret is surrounding yourself with good people. Secondly is ensuring that your d←cor ideas are realistic considering the time and budget that is alloted. Lastly, the secret モallowing yourselfヤ to entrust and relinquish some control to an experienced Hawaii wedding planner who will help you create a detailed timeline to ensure all details are covered, ensure nothing has been overlooked and to execute all the fine details.

With the above in mind, our newest package has been created for the savvy bride that really wants to plan most of her wedding and either has definitive d←cor ideas in mind but doesnメt know to implement it (or just has no idea what to do and needs guidance and recommendations). Ten (10) virtual consulting hours are provided モin the beginning stages of your wedding planning to help streamline the process of securing your professional vendors so you can rest assured you have the right people in place and your d←cor ideas have been clearly defined.

Coordinating services will commence again three months prior to the wedding day. Average planning/coordination time is 30-40 and includes in depth review of all vendor contracts (which with this package takes less time as weメve been involved in helping you from the beginning), ensuring all details with the venue have been finalized, assisting with preparation of detailed timeline for the day (one of the most critical elements), assisting with finalizing program for wedding, participating in final meeting with venue, rehearsal day coordinator (one hour) and on-site wedding coordinator for nine hours on event day.

Getting Started

Hello Everyone!

The very first thing I wish to say is "Congratulations!". I still remember the excitement of being engaged and planning my wedding and honeymoon. This year my husband and I will celebrate our 17th anniversary, and by no coincidence, I will also celebrate 17 years in the travel industry. My experience in trying to plan my own honeymoon is what motivated me to begin a career in honeymoon planning. Too many agents just handed me brochures and told me to come back when I knew what I wanted. In fact, after weeks of researching and debate, when my fiance and I finally decided on a destination (that's a story for another day!), I did go back to an agency that had been referred to me. The agent I spoke to was the owner of the agency. She asked me what I had decided on, made a phone call, took my money, and told me she'd be in touch. The next, and last, time I spoke with her was when I picked up my documents six months later. I received airline tickets (back when they were actual paper tickets), and a voucher for the hotel stay. No explanations, airport check-in time requirements or hotel transfer options. No weather, time change or currency facts. No destination information, travel hints or restaurant recommendations. No suggestions on what to wear, things to see and do, or how to get around the island. As I walked out of the agency, I remember thinking of all the time and effort my fiance and I had put into choosing our island destination and the perfect resort for our honeymoon. The chart my fiance made to point out the differences between partial ocean view, ocean view and ocean front; and the cost ratio of each view, was in itself amazing to behold!

I realized that I had enjoyed all the research and planning that went into our honeymoon. I decided then and there that this was something I could do, and do well. After all, I knew exactly what it was like to coordinate a wedding filled with family and friends who all had their suggestions - while trying to plan a honeymoon that would provide my new husband and me with a romantic start to our life together.

Over the past 17 years, I have grown as a wife and as a travel agent. I am now the proud mother of an 11-year-old son and the proud owner of my own travel agency which specializes in honeymoons and destination weddings. Please call or email me with any questions about your plans. I am always happy to give suggestions and offer alternatives. The travel industry has grown and changed and the internet can sometimes give so much information that it is hard to keep it all straight. That is my job - and it is a job that I love! Take advantage of my 17 years of experience traveling and helping couples plan their honeymoons - it's free!

Your first trip together as husband and wife is also our first journey together as client and travel agent - and will lead to many more wonderful memories in the years to come. Your wedding is a special time and I will give your travel plans the same attention to detail that I still give my own.

Explore your dreams...

Planning your Theme Wedding

What fun! Make your ceremony unique with any theme you can dream up.
Need a kick start? Here is a scenario we at Celebrations by the Sea ( www.beachweddings101.com ) had in June of 2005:
It was the 20th Anniversary of the movie THE GOONIES which was filmed locally in Astoria, Oregon. We had two couples, one couple from the midwest who were getting married and another couple coming all the way from New Jersey who wanted to renew their vows.
How in the world could we create ceremonies around a kidメs movie???
Very simply we decided, rent out the GOONIE HOUSE!!! The wedding cakes were done as モtreasure chestsヤ, their keepsake marriage certificates were done on treasure maps and of course we invited SEAN ASTIN to be a witness. Let me repeat that... OF COURSE we invited SEAN ASTIN to be a witness! That is about as unique as it gets and even got a mention in the December 2006 edition of SPIN magazine.
If you have an idea just GO with it! Youメll be surprised how all the pieces will come together once you get started. If you do need a little help, make sure you talk about your idea with your consultant BEFORE you hire her/him and that they show the same enthusiasm about your theme that you do. The idea is for them to assist you with YOUR ideas not take over and change everything. Whether a romantic theme at a gorgeous destination or a FUN theme make your ceremony a day no one will soon forget.
Congratulations on your up coming wedding! Have a blast!

THE BETTER YOU FEEL, THE BETTER YOU LOOK ON YOUR WEDDING DAY!

Of course you want to look your best on your wedding day! From the early steps of planning your wedding to the confirming of florists, DJメs, and caterers, donメt forget about your beauty countdown.

Itメs easy to forget about our personal beauty, as the wedding is near.
Remember these tips for your glowing appearance.

ᄋ Exercise months and weeks before your wedding. By exercising, your body will battle stress and improve your overall appearance. Walking, meditation, and yoga are grand stress-busters days before your wedding.
ᄋ Get a manicure and pedicure 2 weeks before the big day. Meanwhile, this luxury will help you stay calm and relaxed. The day before head back to the spa for another manicure and pedicure. The second time back at the spa will result in perfect condition hands and feet.
ᄋ Soak, soak, soak. Treat yourself to multiple baths; they help with both conditioning your skin and easing the mind. Exfoliation and masking will add additional glow to your face.
ᄋ Eat Right! Foods can promote healthy skin. Sorry, avoid the coffee and sweets! Salmon, whole grains, almonds, and certain vegetables are the best and safest pre-wedding foods to eat.

We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

Your Youngest Guests

Many weddings include children in the ceremony and as guest. Plan ahead for the reception so the children will be happily occupied and you and your adult guest can enjoy the festivities.

Having a kidsメ table and a trusted babysitter or teenage relative can be put in charge of the children can be a great way to keep the children together and happy. Consider having two people in charge in case of bathroom breaks or necessitated visits to parents.

Having quiet activities at the table for the children will keep them engaged. Crayons, stickers and mini-games at their place settings make great childrenメs favors and activities.

If you are serving a meal that they will have to wait for, have a small, un-messy snack for them to enjoy.

Hope to hear from you soon. We want to be your wedding photographers.

CAN MARRIAGE MAKE YOU RICH?

Thinking about building your future wealth with your new spouse is a good move. You both have to accustom to the モWe thinking,ヤ and learning to manage your money together isnメt always easy at first. With two incomes - you should be able to reach financial goals and success much faster.

Try to devote the early stages of your marriage towards building wealth rather then spending. Here are 4 strategies to help as newlyweds.

1) Talk to a Financial Planner ヨ just what you need as newlyweds and to leap into early wealth. A financial planner will help establish goals like insurance needs, budget, retirement, 401(k), and discuss investment options.
2) Get Out of Debt ヨTwo reasons of why itメs bad to start a marriage in debt. First ヨ More you owe towards that card orナ then the more interest you have to pay, this will lead to less money for saving and investing. Second - Come clean about your debt before you marry. Be honest about your debt, avoid the lack of trust with moneyナits crucial to build financial trust. Sit down together and strategize how you will pay off debt.
3) Save Now ヨ Together and individually sort out short and long terms goals. This will help negotiate and compromise goals to save. Make an automatic deposit into savings. You will also find that your goals will alter while saving for a house, retirement, and childrenメs college.
4) Retirement ヨ As newlyweds you have time to plan and save for retirement. Start now and contribute consistently. If you do not have a 401(k) open an IRA. When you first meet a financial planner he/she can help plan your financial future.

Money and time can make you rich in a marriage. You will not get rich overnight. Consistency and honesty are major contributions to achieve financial goals and wealth. As newlyweds, start planning and building your wealth with these simple 4 steps!

We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

If I can't make it, I will find someone who can - Serenitea Catering

No one person can do everything, and anyone who says they can take on the world is insane. But, when it comes to a style I may be unfamiliar with making, I contract out with specialty items and dishes. If I can't make it, I will find someone who can. I would rather suck up my pride and find someone who's better at making certain things than I would be, and have my client be happy with the results, than to not be at the top of my game, and have a product I wouldn't want to stick my name to. I love to experiment with dishes, but even I have my limits.

Russian regional and American blend - Serenitea Catering

Russian regional and American blend

I recently was asked to come up with a Russian - American menu, and here are some thoughts for salad, pasta, and meats.

Fresh vegetables (svejie ovoshy) ヨ the salad made of cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. Usually made with vinegar or oil.

Beef stroganov ヨ pieces of beef prepared with cream sauce

Sausages ヨ usually served two sausages traditionally packed with Russian spices and meats.

The rest of the menu is a blend of choices that would fall under appetizers, chocolate fountain with graham cracker pretzels, and fresh fruits, hearty breads and butter, and if wanted by the client, another pasta choice with meats and spices for variety.

Wonderful DC WEdding!!!

Well we just got Back from a wonderful wedding, what I will do weekly now is give a review of the weddings that we have done, so be prepared girls.,because some weeks we have lots of them, just two this weekend,So I will Start with the DC one today,

It was held at a Beautiful Catholic Church, on Mass. Ave NW, it was so, peacful, calm, on the altar she had 2 arrangments with Montrova Red Lilly, Grande Red Roses, and Plumaria Orchids, very deep jewel tones, on either, side with, of course flowers for the Blessed Mother, we never charge for this, :Kind of think of it as Bad luck to do so: Her Bouquet was very cool Grande Red Rose's wrapped in a sheer fabric to resemble the stems of the flowers, the reason is you don't want it to stain the dress, and she had three attendents, CAN I say WOW< she looked so beautiful> Oh my the love was so thick in the church, even I got tearedd up, but I still do after 20 years, so then over to the reception which was at The Tabard Inn, oh my this place is so beautiful, if you are planning a small intimate reception, what a great place to go, the staff is amazing to work with, right on que with everything that they do there. one of my favorite places , easy on the wallet as well, your guests will rave for many years over this place, and the pictures of this wedding will be so grand.Even the snow on the ground, it was so cleaned so that the guests could get in and out of the cars, as you can tell above this place is a jewel in the big city, but not only was love in the air, but the staff there is just a love to work with, that is it for this one Girls, Check it out, The warmth and Love is what this wedding was a bout in a cold DC day, The whole city is now full of Love today, Much Love...

Why hire a professional MC?

Why hire a Professional MC?

By Marino M. Regalado, Master of Ceremonies & Interactive Entertainment Specialist, www.ninjaentertainment.com

There are many reasons why a professional MC may モcostヤ a lot of money. But the truth is, the professional Master of Ceremonies may be one of the most important investments you will ever make.

The truth about costs

Many brides we speak to initially have asked a friend or relative to host their wedding reception. On the face of it, it makes sense: that person knows you personally, may be funny, and may be comfortable speaking to a group of friends. Most importantly, he or she is FREE. But as the saying goes, sometimes you truly get what you pay for. Consider these:

Itメs truly a shame when a bride & groom invest thousands of dollars into their wedding and allow an amateur to run the entire presentation. After all, if the guests go home early because they were bored or because there just wasnメt enough interest...

AFTER THE HONEYMOON ヨ is it over?

After your wedding and honeymoon you may experience the honeymoon hangover. The honeymoon hangover can be avoided, and the flame can still burn once you learn how to keep the fire going. The saying モHoneymoon is overヤ does not mean your doomed for unhappiness, the excitement and spark can still exist between the two of you!

Tips to avoid the honeymoon hangover

* Call him/her at work just to say hello, ask モAre you are free tonight?ヤ

* During winter months, warm her/his car up

* Surprise her with flowers

* Mail a card to her/him

* Plan another romantic getaway shortly after your honeymoon. It can be 2 years out, this will keep the both of you looking forward to doing something together again.

* Write notes and place them in his/hers lunch box, car, bathroom mirror, closet, refrigerator, or even write notes about your honeymoon.

You can take action now on these tips! Again, when your honeymoon is over, it doesnメt mean the two of you will be.

We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

And, for more information about Lumina Weddings, we encourage you to visit our website at www.luminaweddings.com.

A bun in the oven!

We are happy to announce that the Pitter Patter of a baby Potter will be arriving this Spring. One month after celebrating our one year wedding anniversary! I am, very much a working mom, so if you see me at your event with a huge belly under my apron, rub it for good luck. It seems to happen at every wedding I do anyway :)

Why I started Serenitea Catering?

If you want to know some things about the people that are running one of the most important events in your life, it's nice to know a little about them.

I created Serenitea Catering, a division of Flanders Enterprises, starting with my father.

I grew up at weddings and special events as the daughter of a DJ. He would do an event, and then take that money and donate it to a charity.

We are a family of cooks and chefs, some lifetime learners and others professionally taught at Culinary schools around the nation. I began my own path in the wedding industry as a bartender.

Straight out of bartending school, I landed a job as the Lead Bartender at an upscale restaraunt in Steilacoom, Washington. After leaving that to start up my own business, I then created Flanders Enterprises Bartending Services strictly for being an affordable bar service for special events. The truth is, is that anyone with a license can bartend, but I wanted more, to do more, create drinks, and provide a service that would make me unique.

I collect glassware. I have hundreds and hundreds of everything under the sun when it comes to glassware. I bring these with me to every bar event.

I went to a lot of weddings and saw things that I didn't agree with professionally. The caterers provided unique displays of food, but there was something missing. They didn't stay for the end of the event, which left people in tuxes and nice dresses to pick up garbage.

I love to feed the neighborhood, and pulled the best people in the field to create Serenitea Catering. I wanted to stay the duration of the event, to watch it from start to end.

Serenitea is a play on the word "Serenity" and that is what I wanted my company to be. No worries. There are enough things at a wedding to stress out about.

I'm in my later 20's, and know that the money is a precious item, and that getting the most of it, is one of the goals in planning that special day.

I married one of the bartenders last year, and planning a wedding, even if you do it for a living is nuts! We gave ourselves around 2 months to pull together and event in another state and the reception here, and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

I believe in good food, things I would serve to my family and friends, at a value for the budget minded brides to be. This is why I started Serenitea Catering, and this is why we love doing what we do.

WINES FOR YOUR RECEPTION!

Choosing wines for your wedding reception can be an overwhelming decision. You will want to choose a red and a white wine. Before you select your favorite wine, think about what wines your guest will fully appreciate and enjoy with their buffet or sit-down dinner. Desert wines are always optional. Food and wine are hand in hand.

*Popular Whites

Chardonnay ヨ Always a guest pleaser. A stylish lightly fruit grape wine thatメs smooth and pairs well with seafood, rich creamy pasta and chicken dishes.

Sauvignon Blanc ヨ Very distinctive wine. Crisp and intense, best with pasta and cheese. Great for cocktail hour!

Reisling ヨ Elegant wine. Fabulous and full of rich fruit, try it with fish, shrimp, cold meat dishes, and desert.

*Popular Reds

Merlot ヨ The most seductive wine. Carries a natural sweetness that pairs well with almost all foods. Meat, chicken, and sauce pastas.

Cabernet Sauvigon ヨ Selective wine. Can be hard to please. Known for the king of red grapes. Its deep blackcurrant taste and color pairs ultimately with flavor dishes.

Pinot Noir ヨ Very well loved. This elegant wine pairs well with game dishes, duck, and fish dishes.

Take a little Wine 101 to find those two perfect wines to please your guest! Washington State has several wineries that offer wine tastings. Take your bridesmaids with you and make a wine tasting day full of fun!

We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

Finalists Have Been Chosen!

We had an overwhelming response to the free wedding photography contest. There have been so many great stories (haha... and a few lames ones!) but we had to narrow it down to three. It was a hard process and lots of debate between the judges... our best wishes to those who did not make it to the final round, you certainly made it hard to choose!

I will be posting the winner along with their stories tonight, so stay tuned. I will also post instructions on how to vote at that time.

Stay tuned!!!

Valentineメs Day is the official day of love. Love evokes all types of warm fuzzy feelings. Cuddling and kissing have the same affect. Turks and Caicos is a little piece of paradise!

I made my 2nd visit to Turks and Caicos in August and have lots to report! I chose this tiny little island for its fabulous beach and fantastic coral reefs. My son recently completed his certification in 40 degree Puget Sound waters (as I did many years ago) and it was a real treat to introduce him to warm water diving. We visited a new site every day for 10 days and saw hundreds of colorful fish, turtles, rays, shark and schools of dolphin.

Turks and Caicos is at the southern end of the Bahamian chain in the Caribbean Sea. Its most famous beach, Grace Bay, is routinely listed as one of the best in the world by Conde Nast with 12 miles of powder white sand along sparkling turquoise water. Water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, sailing, fishing, kayaking and scuba are a major draw as is lazing away the hours soaking in the tropical sun or being pampered at one of the fantastic spas.

Resorts cater to either a family market or romance and solitude seeking adults with few choices in between. My destination was Beaches Turks and Caicos which is an all inclusive resort and THE place for families plus an excellent choice for divers of all ages. Iメll write more about Beaches in another post -

My favorite honeymoon spot or quiet getaway on Turks is Point Grace, an intimate hideaway with spacious bungalows, oceanfront spa and gourmet restaurant. The pool and gardens are lovely and private open air porches are shaded and furnished with gorgeous carved wood chaise lounges perfect for reading or napping. Kitchens are fully equipped and can be prestocked by guest services. The photo below is taken from a villa at Point Graceナ

Other great choices on Turks include Grace Bay Club, the Palms, Turks and Caicos Club and Ocean Club so if youメre planning a Caribbean honeymoon or need a new idea for a family vacation I hope youメll call me. Turks and Caicos is a little piece of paradise! Call me if I can help plan a romontic getaway for you.

Colors for your wedding invitations and programs

On Saturday, one of the brides I met with, was very happy that she had waited until she chose flowers to purchase her invitations. The colors she was using to accent the bridesmaids dresses were brought to the mix we are going to use for her design.

We went with elegant paper(s) and beautiful graphics.....understated elegance, and simplicity. Always in good taste...yes, we are using the newer elegant shimmering metallics, and we are using a traditional font and traditional wording.....with beautiful motifs and a monogram.

Incorporating color is a great way to excite your guests about your wedding day.

The end result of her research and my sense of what she wanted worked well. I listened well online to her notes, and before we met, I had successfully captured the essence of the themes of the samples she brought to our meeting...She wanted color and graphics, and beauty and simple elegance.

It is wonderful to be in a needs meeting business.

Comfort Food - charity through Serenitea Catering

In a time of loss, Serenitea Catering is looking for people in need to bring home cooked meals for. We call the program "Comfort food." If you know someone who has gone into a Hospice center for the terminally ill, we would like to offer a FREE meal to the family, so they would not have to go outside for a meal. We have had our own experiences when it comes to loss of a loved one, and wanted to extend the favor to those in the Pierce County area.

Catering to kids!

When it comes to kids at an event, generally speaking, kids are happier with simpler food selections. Finger foods are always a good thing to have around expecially for those little ones who are always on the go.
We offer a FREE chocolate fountain with all of our catering packages, and these are always a HUGE hit with the younger side of the guest list!
