With Invitations, Anything Goes!
At one time, things had to be a certain way. You had to do what was expected, what was proper. Stepping outside of what was known and accepted was considered crass or uncivilized. Why, if your wedding invitation didn't look a certain way, how would people know what it was for?
Things change. And for the better!
Nowadays a bride can express her individuality through her wedding planning and choices, and the invitations are a great place to start.
This of course, is a trend we completely advocate, since we specialize in creating custom designs. What we love about our work is that the possibilities are endless!
One of our clients wanted a wedding invitation in the shape of a butterfly! Another bride asked us to create some invitations with unique illustrations of kitty cats! There was even an instance where one of our designers was tasked with the challenge of turning a photo of a beach scene into an oil painting using a digital painting tablet and a professional painting program. The painting became the front of the invitation. A client we're working with currently wants flowers made out of ribbon. But not just any flowers, no, she is having us sew some unique flowers made out of organza ribbon to be attached to a petal pochette invitation.
So the question is, what exactly would you like to see in your invitation? What is unique about you? Is there a certain movie that you are wild about? Was there a certain hotel that you visited, a certain town, city, or country that is special to you? Are you both big fans of the outdoors? A favorite hobby? Or perhaps you have a favorite book, or you just like classic literature! Imagine an invitation in the style of an old, often read book! Perhaps you are into a certain type of music or a specific band! Maybe its a particular era in time, like the 30's or the 70's! Imagine a photo montage with about 20 different photos of you at different times during your engagement incorporated into the design!
The possibilities are endless.
Why not stand out from all the rest! Why settle for an invitation that has been purchased by a thousand other brides, only in a different color, with a different font when you can have something that is truly you!
Consider for a moment. If a person decides she wants a motorcycle, she has a few options. She could drive down to the Harley shop and pick up one of those. Its a great machine. But if she wants something truly unique, something nobody else has, she's going to head to the custom bike shop, where she can have them build something unique to her.
If a person wants to purchase a new home, they could buy one of the hundred houses on a tract being built by a popular home builder. But if they want something truly unique, they can have an architect create a custom home, especially for them.
Now, not everybody is in a position to have a custom bike or home built at the snap of a finger.
But when it comes to custom wedding invitations, it really is a possibility!
Your marriage is a once in a lifetime event, so why not set the tone in a way that says you are truly unique, with a truly unique invitation from Cleverly Custom Invitations!

Have an invitation party!
If you're finding yourself shorter on money than time, assembling your own invitations seems like a good route, but if you're not careful, it may end up costing you alot more in time. Still, it's a good reason to have a party!

There are a few steps you'll have to take before the party can begin.
First of all, you'll need to have a complete design for your invitations. You must know exactly how the finished pieces will look before you begin. Because not everyone at your party will be a professional invitation designer, the easier you can make the assembly the better.
If you want an invitation that includes art or photos, then having access to a professional design suite such as Adobe Creative Suite, would be ideal, because it includes programs created specifically for design and page layout. Otherwise, you can use a program such as Microsoft Publisher to create a unique design using clipart.
If your invitation has only text, and no artwork, then a decent Word Processing program and printer will do fine, although a good laser printer is recommended. If you choose to print them yourself, one thing to keep in mind is that some of your specialty papers may not print the way you would like them to through a home printer. So you'll have to experiment with your paper choices.
This is why you should request samples of the paper you are considering before buying in bulk. When you do finally print, try to fit as many pieces on a single page as you can to save on paper and time. For example, you might be able to print out 3 or more response cards on a single sheet.
Once you have the pieces printed, they must be cut to size. This can be apart of the process at the invitation party! If so, you'll need at least two paper cutters. We recommend rotary style paper cutters for safety. You can find decent paper cutters at most craft stores and some office supply chains. When you get your paper cutters, be aware of the fact that the circular blades will get dull and the cutting mats will wear out, so we recommend buying at least two spare blades and mats, depending on the number of invitations and additional pieces. The person operating the paper cutter may wear out as well, so have a few backups standing by.
You'll also need adhesives such as photo tape if you have multiple layers of paper, or several good pairs of scissors and hole punches if you plan on attaching those pieces using a ribbon. Most craft stores have neat rectangular shaped hole punches ideal for tying a bow through. If you do plan on tying the pieces together with ribbon, it might be a good idea to print a mark exactly where you would like the hole punched, to make it easier for your hole punching volunteer.
Once you have all the pieces and tools, and you know exactly how you want your invitation to look, you can begin the process.
We recommend the following assembly line:
Two people at a table with your rotary paper cutters. One working on cutting the sheets for the main invitation, the other working on the additional pieces such as response cards. Have some backup volunteers ready if you have a large number of invitations.
If you printed guide lines so your volunteers would know exactly where to cut, we recommend assigning a quality checker at this stage, as sometimes lines are still left visible and will need to be shaved off again using the rotary cutter.
Next, if you are assembling your invitations using ribbon, at this point your hole-punchers can pick up the cut pieces and begin punching the holes. You'll also need a volunteer or two cutting your ribbon to the desired length. Then your bow tyers can take these pieces and tie them all together.
Alternatively, if you are assembling your invitations using adhesives, you'll need at least two volunteers (but preferably up to 4 if you have a large number of invitations) applying these after the pieces are cut, and piecing the parts together.
Have some volunteers working on addressing envelopes if you didnt print these in advance. Once your pieces are all assembled, have stuffers assigned to stuff the envelopes. An additional step before this one would be to apply the return address labels if you chose to use those.
Now you can seal the envelopes, and you're ready to go! Have plenty of water on hand for your envelope lickers, or you can buy a tool specifically designed to moisten your envelopes. Even a moistened sponge will do the trick.
How much time and money is necessary for this whole process? The printing process will take quite a bit of time, so be prepared to set aside at least a full day for you and your fianc←. Make sure you have purchased an extra supply of ink or toner.
The day of the party.
Cutting is going to take a tremendous amount of your time, because with heavier weighted papers, they must be cut one sheet at a time for quality. Applying adhesives is also time consuming, because its a tedious task. Alternately, if you're taking the ribbon route, hole punching is also a time consuming process, and can tend to become painful on the hands. Ribbon tying is one of the slowest parts of the process and is an art in itself, so there may be a learning curve and practice time necessary for your volunteers.
Then comes the stuffing, which is also a fairly slow process, especially if you are using inner and outer envelopes.
All in all, depending on the quantity of invitations, you should have some volunteers that are willing to devote the better part of a day for the entire process. Otherwise, you may have to split it into two days.
Sounds like quite a job, doesnt it? We went through this whole process back when we got married, thinking we would save some money. Although we did save a bit of money (not nearly enough for all the trouble), the time we spent was tremendous, and our invitations ended up being sent several weeks later than planned. If we had to do it all over again, we'd just have them created professionally. Which is exactly why we decided to start our own, truly custom invitation company. We want to make the custom invitation process as painless as possible for you.
There are allot of companies that claim to be custom, yet they have you choose from designs that are pre-made, allowing you to pick a few things such as color and font.
At Cleverly, our invitations are truly unique! In fact, they don't even exist until we work together with you and bring them to life!
Any size, shape, and color you can imagine!
And, for the do-it-yourselfer, we can arrange all the finished, professionally designed and cut pieces into an invitation kit to save you real time and money!

TIPS TO BOOKING YOUR WEDDING DAY WHEELS!
Figuring out wedding transportation what kind of limo to get, how many people, route, and expense can be puzzle to figure out. Before you book your transportation read these tips.
1. Start off by doing a head count. How many people do you want to transport?
2. Decide if you want transportation for the entire day/event. It is cheaper for pickup/drop off services your driver will not be waiting. Although some services may require a 4 hour minimum that could cost the same as 20 minutes.
3. Make sure to shop around for pricing and watch for hidden fees. Inspect all their vehicles for conditions you expect to have on your wedding day.
4. Get phone numbers, especially your drivers. Always confirm directions and locations with your driver, and give them copies.
5. Under any circumstance, have a back up plan! Weddings are never perfect as planned.
Youll want to call and confirm the details with the transportation company the day before the wedding. Write that down in your wedding book of when to call. Enjoy your limo of choice!
We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

CAN MARRIAGE MAKE YOU RICH?
Thinking about building your future wealth with your new spouse is a good move. You both have to accustom to the We thinking, and learning to manage your money together isnt always easy at first. With two incomes - you should be able to reach financial goals and success much faster.
Try to devote the early stages of your marriage towards building wealth rather then spending. Here are 4 strategies to help as newlyweds.
1) Talk to a Financial Planner just what you need as newlyweds and to leap into early wealth. A financial planner will help establish goals like insurance needs, budget, retirement, 401(k), and discuss investment options.
2) Get Out of Debt Two reasons of why its bad to start a marriage in debt. First More you owe towards that card or& then the more interest you have to pay, this will lead to less money for saving and investing. Second - Come clean about your debt before you marry. Be honest about your debt, avoid the lack of trust with money&its crucial to build financial trust. Sit down together and strategize how you will pay off debt.
3) Save Now Together and individually sort out short and long terms goals. This will help negotiate and compromise goals to save. Make an automatic deposit into savings. You will also find that your goals will alter while saving for a house, retirement, and childrens college.
4) Retirement As newlyweds you have time to plan and save for retirement. Start now and contribute consistently. If you do not have a 401(k) open an IRA. When you first meet a financial planner he/she can help plan your financial future.
Money and time can make you rich in a marriage. You will not get rich overnight. Consistency and honesty are major contributions to achieve financial goals and wealth. As newlyweds, start planning and building your wealth with these simple 4 steps!
We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

Warm wishes for springtime wedding planning
About Us:
MagnetStreet Weddings is a division of MagnetStreet, a single source provider of high quality full-color promotional products. Our designers and services are all in-house allowing us to offer our customers value through personalization and innovation.
Brief History
MagnetStreet Weddings successfully emerged into the wedding market with three little words - Save the Date! David Baird, our Vice President of Sales and Marketing at MagnetStreet is often found exploring new markets and products and in 2005, he came across a string of words "save the date." With an inquiring mind and a couple of bridal magazines, David soon learned that it was a product in the consumer market and of the particular need for it in the wedding industry. David also knew that this need could be filled by the employees, technology and products of MagnetStreet. And so, with lots of enthusiasm, a new website: www.magnetstreetweddings.com and approximately 40 Save the Date magnet designs, MagnetStreet Weddings launched on May 20th, 2005. The response was and continues to be explosive. Sales and sample requests continue to grow month after month. On May 27th, 2006, we were featured on Travel Channel, The Wedding Survival Guide Episode, where they filmed on location at our plant in Carol Stream, IL.
Today
As of 2007, we now have hundreds of designs and the line has expanded into Save the Date cards, Thank You cards, Wedding Postcards, Car Door magnets and Wedding Favors. Save the Dates have become immensely popular because they are a multi-faceted, functional, must-have tool. They announce the wedding, give wedding details, allow guests to make preparations, and at the very least are practical and fun! These three little words have taken the wedding world and engaged couples everywhere by storm! Our accomplished designers at MagnetStreet Weddings are inspired by current wedding trends and by the brides themselves.
Designer's Choice:
Always something new! Every month our designers feature their latest design and write a brief interpretation about the inspiration behind that design. Check out Brian's inspiration for his Save the Date design entitled "Modern Lines."

WHEN TO WED - ask yourself these 5 questions
Congratulations! Youre now engaged. Take a deep breath and ask yourselves these 5 questions of when to wed.
1. Do we want to get married when the weather is warm or cold?
2. Are there any conflicts - expectancies that might interfere with our wedding date?
3. Would we rather have our wedding indoors or outdoors?
4. Should we marry on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?
5. Can we afford to have our wedding during season or could we settle for off-season at a discount rate?
By answering and thinking about these 5 questions hopefully choosing and setting a wedding date will be less difficult. Once you have your ideal vision of your day then start selecting your venues accordingly.
We would love to talk with you. Please call us at (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding day dreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

A word of thanks from the Honeymoon!
Lance,
First off....Darla and I wanted to thank you for an outstanding job!! You are truly awesome!
Where to begin!! Darla and I are finally on our honeymoon and you were right the best advice we could get was exactly what you said the evening will go by so fast.....so thank you for telling us to be sure and stay on the dance floor and have fun with the crowd.
Secondly Darla and I were talking about you the other day and if it wasn't for your diligent effort to keep us informed of things and events happening and keeping things on track I think the wedding would have been very much behind. You really helped more than we can say and it shows that you have been doing what you do for a long time!! We can't thank you enough!
We were definately a bit frustrated with the lack of support from the hollywood schoolhouse staff members though. No one too help with the cake? Oh well its all behind us now!!
Anyway thank you for a great job!!
Jim and Darla

The beauty of the islands........
Destination weddings to Hawaii still continues to boom as brides from all over the country find themselves drawn to the beauty of the islands.
I recently had the pleasure to show one of my New York couples several oceanfront and garden locations on the island of Oahu. Sometimes when you live in Hawaii, you forget to take time to appreciate its beauty and it was really fun to spend the day watching their expressions as they viewed each location as if they were through the eyes of a child.

WINES FOR YOUR RECEPTION
Choosing wines for your wedding reception can be an overwhelming decision. You will want to choose a red and a white wine. Before you select your favorite wine, think about what wines your guest will fully appreciate and enjoy with their buffet or sit-down dinner. Desert wines are always optional. Food and wine are hand in hand.
*Popular Whites
Chardonnay Always a guest pleaser. A stylish lightly fruit grape wine thats smooth and pairs well with seafood, rich creamy pasta and chicken dishes.
Sauvignon Blanc Very distinctive wine. Crisp and intense, best with pasta and cheese. Great for cocktail hour!
Reisling Elegant wine. Fabulous and full of rich fruit, try it with fish, shrimp, cold meat dishes, and desert.
*Popular Reds
Merlot The most seductive wine. Carries a natural sweetness that pairs well with almost all foods. Meat, chicken, and sauce pastas.
Cabernet Sauvigon Selective wine. Can be hard to please. Known for the king of red grapes. Its deep blackcurrant taste and color pairs ultimately with flavor dishes.
Pinot Noir Very well loved. This elegant wine pairs well with game dishes, duck, and fish dishes.
Take a little Wine 101 to find those two perfect wines to please your guest! Washington State has several wineries that offer wine tastings. Take your bridesmaids with you and make a wine tasting day full of fun!

Beautiful Wedding Photos
There are a few things to keep in mind when preparing for your wedding photos on your special day. To look your absolute best, follow these tips:
1. The camera flash will make you look paler than normal. If you have very light-toned (ivory) skin, you will want to consider using a translucent loose powder that is one shade darker than your normal skin tone. That way, you won't look "washed out" in the pictures.
2. Remember the waterproof mascara! Play up your eyes and make them more noticeable with mascara and eyeliner, but remember that you are likely -- at some point -- to cry. Waterproof mascara will prevent any embarrassing dark circles under your eyes.
3. No matter what the temperature is during the wedding, you are likely to perspire. Before the actual pictures take place after the ceremony, be sure to touch up lightly with powder to take away any shine. You should be glowing in your pictures, but that should be an inner glow!
Be sure to check with a makeover professional to help you look your absolute best -- both at the ceremony and in the pictures -- on your wedding day!

CONSIDERING A PRENUP?
You no longer have to be a celebrity to have a prenup. They no longer are for the rich. Prenup agreements mainstreamed because people have prospects. The statistics on divorce rates indicates a Good reason to consider a mutual agreement early before marriage. The controversy of signing a prenuptial agreement is and should be a topic you talk about before you marry not after.
Couples do not like to discuss this topic because its unromantic, not optimistic, and most feel hurt. Common thoughts of such, and the feeling of a doomed marriage is also a touchy subject. Most think its anticipating a marriage when it should be on the promise of a marriage.
If something goes wrong in a marriage, than the early smart planning means one less headache to fight about. Prenups are meant to protect family, children, and assets. The experience of negotiating can be awful while planning an ending of a marriage that hasnt even started. It also can be a positive experience. You really get to know each other, while building a solid honest ground of your marriage. Being prepared will only benefit you.
We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

Look Your Best on Your Wedding Day
As the bride, all eyes will be on you on your wedding day. You will want to make sure that every inch of you is worthy of "close-up" attention! Here are some important things to consider as you prepare for your wedding:
USE PROPER SKIN CARE Give nature a helping hand by starting a basic skin care program at least 1-2 months prior to your wedding. Daily care, a morning and evening regimen of cleansing, freshening and moisturizing, primes your face for the sheer makeup look every blushing bride should have!
USE WATERPROOF MASCARA Undoubtedly, this is one of the happiest moments of your life, and you may shed a few tears of joy. The last thing you want is streaks of black on your face during pictures.
USE LIPLINER AND LIPSTICK Create the ultimate in kissable lips. Select a lipstick rich in moisturizers and emollients. Line first, use brush to apply color, and re-apply for staying power. Add a touch of gloss for shine. Avoid frosted lipstick.
USE TRANSLUCENT FACE POWDER Sets makeup and provides a matte finish. Helps control oil break- through and shine. Always select powder in the shade closest to your natural skin tone. Pressed powder is portable, so use it throughout the day to pat away shine (especially just before you pose for pictures!). Shake applicator after each use to prevent powder glaze and oil buildup.
WEAR THE CORRECT FOUNDATION SHADE Gives skin a smooth, even-toned finish and guards against environmental elements. Apply with fingertips or sponge using sweeping strokes, blending well, especially along the jawline and hairline. Do not select a foundation shade to match the back of your hand. Select one which closely blends along the jawline.
USE COLOR HARMONY Color adds the sparkle to your bridal look. To harmonize, simply choose makeup and wardrobe attire with a single undertone, either vibrantly cool, or radiantly warm. Make sure you harmonize lip, cheek and nail colors.
USE CORRECT BLUSHER APPLICATION Blusher should provide a soft glow, never streaked or blotchy. For sheer and even application, use a blusher brush, and begin applying at the base of the hairline near the ear, blending forward using feathery strokes. Lightly dust face powder over blusher to tone and blend.
WEAR A FRAGRANCE A woman's fragrance is her most intimate trademark, the invisible part of herself that makes a lasting impression on other people's senses. The scent you select is your own personal signature. Never overdo your aroma. Make sure your fragrance doesn't arrive before you do! Use fragrance-layering techniques and apply body creams, dusting powder and colognes. The scent you select will either be silent and suggestive, feverish and magical, or romantic and sensual.
WEAR MAKEUP Use the tricks of the beauty trade to accentuate, enhance and define your best features. Glamour can be applied to compliment any face shape and complexion, regardless of facial contours or bone structure. Minor imperfections and blemishes may be neatly corrected by using a concealer. The catchword is experiment prior to your wedding date, so you know exactly how beautiful you will look.
USE A PROFESSIONAL Beautiful skin care and glamour isn't just something you buy - it's something you learn. I don't just sell skin care, I teach you through personal instruction. Learning the right beauty regimen customized for your skin type and proper glamour application will guarantee you'll look your loveliest on your wedding day.

Your Name In Lights!
Aloha,
As the title of my blog states, imagine your name in lights projected on the dancefloor or on your ballroom's far wall. Up to 20 feet or larger. This will definitely set the mood for your reception and let all of your guests know that you have arrived. It's a classy and elegant addition to any ballroom and reception.
I have included an example of what the effect looks like on my photo page. You can find it on the Bridesclub.com homepage or email me for an example. Imagine having this lighting effect as the backdrop of some of your most important pictures. It's beautiful and stunning at the same time.
This is just one of the many features that we offer and another reason why ...we are more than just music.

WHERE TO SEAT YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS
Seating your family and friends at your reception is not always easy. If assigned seating is the agenda, then follow these tips to keep your guests happy and entertained.
ᄋ Seat the loud and dancing crowd next to the DJ speakers chances are they will be dancing, or talking comfortably louder than the music being played
ᄋ Seat the older and mellow crowd furthest away from the DJ
ᄋ Group co-workers at the same table so they can talk about relative issues
ᄋ Those singles, place with people they know
Take in considerations and accommodations for your guests. Try your best in making them happy with their seating arrangements. Remember, many of your guests will want to sit next to those they know.

THE SECRET TO SELECTING YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER!
Your wedding photographer is the second most important selection you will make for your wedding day!
Frankly, all of us (wedding photographers) can show you beautiful prints on the wall and beautiful wedding albums. It may have taken some photographers five years to collect a dozen beautiful prints, but ALL of us can show them to you.
What you are paying for more than anything is the CONFIDENCE that you will get a beautiful set of photos photos of the people, details, events and emotions that make up YOUR wedding day.
How do you get the confidence?
When you are sitting down with the photographer, ask them to show you COMPLETE sets of the photos from the last two weddings that they have covered. This will show you if the photographer will capture all the important elements at EVERY wedding they shoot.
We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

RING, BOUQUET, AND NAILS!
There is nothing more beautiful and noticeable than a brides left hand holding onto her bouquet. A glance at her ring, bouquet, and nails is timeless and truly a stunning sight.
To get this classic look -- first step is to choose your wedding colors and then select the colors for your bouquet.
Burgundy and deep red bouquets show a strong statement. Red nail polishes should be worn if planning on having shorter nails. If you like your nails longer wear a sheer pink, cream, or champagne color. Either color will intensify the burgundy and reds in your bouquet.
Mixed pastels wear any pastel color to pick up on a desired color in your bouquet. Keep in mind that lighter nail colors look great with tan skin. If your skin tone is fair, then aim towards a lighter pink or a French manicure. Iridescent colors look amazing with pastel colors too.
Yellow and Orange bouquets are sophisticated and have grown into the modern flair. Nude colors may seem unflattering in a bottle, but your hand on your bouquet will look stunning. If nude is completely not the color for you, choose a sheer nail color. Rings that have a yellow tint look absolutely fabulous when combined with this combination.
The all white bouquet delicate and pretty. When nail color is sheer ivory, pink, or French manicure, and with the diamond ring this combination will result in pure glamour.
Your nail color can be a necessary to your flowers and your ring. All of these colors combined express a brides own style.

Choosing a DJ...Part Time or Full Time?
In my efforts to stay competitive and up to date, I've often browsed the websites of other local Mobile DJ companies. Upon reading the FAQ page, I always find the question "Do you do this full time or are you a weekend warrior?".
The answer has always been something to the tune of "We are full time. You don't want to go with a part time dj. They don't have quality equipment or services. They're going to have a limited selection. They won't give you the attention you deserve. They might have to work their full time job and leave you high and dry." Believe it or not, this is what I've read!
Being a "part time" mobile dj company for the past several years, this used to bother me. Now that I have quit my day job and made AMT Entertainment an official "full time" mobile dj company, I realize some very important information that I wanted to share with inquiring brides.
The major difference between a "part-" and "full-" time mobile dj company is the price. Several factors affect why the price is higher, but it always is! It could be that one dj is trying to make his fortune with one system, but doesn't want to be booked EVERY weekend, so he starts to charge more. Or it could be that a larger company has to hire dj's to run the company's systems, so they not only have to maintain the company, but also have to pay the employees. Whatever the case, the price is always higher.
Another difference is the saturation of their schedule. This is not necessarily a negative thing. More experience means better quality.
But all in all, there's not much difference between full time and part time companies, other than the price. You have many full time companies that don't give the greatest service and many part time companies that pour their heart and soul into your event.
So where does that leave AMT Entertainment? We used to think we were a "small fish" with the heart of a "big fish". Now, I think it's the other way around. Being a husband and wife team, Ben still works his full time position. But I spend my days working on our business. We don't plan on raising our prices. We are confident and proud of what we charge. You still get the absolute best service possible.
Enjoy!

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY advantages you should know
Before you select your wedding photographer and videographer review the awarding advantages of selecting same company services.
Here are three reasons why you should choose your wedding photographer and videographer from the same company.
1) Both photographer and videographer work together as a team they coordinate what they are accountable for so both get the photos and video you want. You will not see them fighting for the same shot.
2) By working together, the photographer can easily share digital images with the videographer - this allows your photography (Still photos) to be incorporated into your wedding video. Makes an excellent presentation for all who view.
3) You will find a one-stop service convenience using the same company. It is less complicating and easier to coordinate two very important elements of your wedding.
Lumina Photography is one of the largest digital studios in the Northwest and we have created beautiful wedding images, videos, and albums for hundreds of area couples.

4 IMPORTANT TIPS TO READ!!
Youve just got engaged after waiting and waiting for him to ask you, and now full of excitement - you rush into your planning without even thinking about the 4 most important tips.
1. Dont Rush! Control your excitement, and enjoy being newly engaged. The two of you need to think about the logistics of planning your wedding day. We advise to hold off on planning for at least 2 weeks then plan.
2. The Big Picture Envision the kind of wedding outdoor/indoor, destination, or the season once selected, your colors, d←cor, flowers, and food will all fall into place.
3. Create your Wants and Needs List. The needs list should consist of having a venue and things like a good photographer. The want lists are items that you want personalized - like your centerpieces and napkins.
4. Budget! Knowing your allowance per service is very important. Sit down together and work out how much you have to spend and where you want to spend it. Couples tend to make poor choices - falling in love with a favorite location and not being able to afford other wedding necessities can imperfect your day.
Our best advice is to follow these 4 tips. Remember not to spend, put down deposits, or select venues until youve done your homework. Be true to your budget!
At Lumina, we are also great wedding planners, and have helped couples find and plan their wedding day according to their budget.

Anniversaries! We just had ours, let us be a part of the beginning of yours
We celebrated our wedding anniversary one month ago, and we have made a career of catering to the needs of other people's weddings.
In this last year, we have expanded to catering as well as our bar service, and in a few days welcoming our own little ( estimated nine pound ) bun in the oven.
So much can happen in the time span of a year, and all those memories are just as important as the day we first said our "I dos."
We believe in honest work and I hope to have many more years of anniversaries both in our personal and our professional lives.
I love you Jacob, and there's no one else I would rather struggle through the daily things in life with than you.

Nobodys Perfect!
Through the months of planning your wedding, and 10 years into your marriage, remember to boost each others self esteem when needed the most. We all like to feel special and tend to forget to place each other up on that pedestal.
The more the two of you compliment, and build each others self-esteem, the healthier your relationship and marriage will be. Having a positive perception of your husband or wife can overlook their small mistakes. You will find that minor issues will fray from becoming major issues. Maintaining and nurturing the positive aspects to each other will also contribute to low stress and dealing with life in general.

What do your wedding colors mean?
The meanings and feelings behind the colors we love:
Red is the color of passion and energy. It is an exciting and stimulating color that demands attention wherever it is found. A red wedding shows that you are passionate and unafraid to make a bold statement.
Green is the color of new growth and nature. Since this color is often associated with rebirth (think spring), the color green shows that you are looking forward to a wonderful new beginning.
Pink is the color of vitality and youth it is a happy and innocent color. A pink wedding is both feminine and pretty.
Blue is the color of tranquility. This color spreads a calm and peaceful feeling across a room full of guests and gives brides and bridesmaids a look of serenity.
Yellow stands for true happiness. Yellow bridesmaid dresses, yellow flowers or yellow candles indicate that happiness follows you wherever you go.
Brown is the color of comfort. Think of natural wood grain and beautifully stained furniture. Rooms decorated with touches of brown feel warm and cozy. Guests wont want to leave!
Purple is the traditional color of nobility and luxury. Purple will surely make you a queen for the day!
Orange is a spirited color that stands for warmth and comfort. Although it can be a motivating color, orange makes people feel at ease with their surroundings.
Taupe is considered one of the most sophisticated and elegant colors. It is a popular choice for brides who stop at nothing to achieve the most crisp and tailored look.
Silver and Gray are refined colors that represent composure and grace. The ever-popular platinum achieves the same effect.
Black is the traditional color of formality. It is elegant, strong and very sophisticated. When paired with traditional white, brides can achieve the infamous black-tie-affair look.
White is the traditional color of brides. In the past, it symbolized purity and virtue. Today, it has come to mean clean, crisp and luxurious. Brides who choose white for their d←cor or ensemble cannot go wrong.

Bridal Shows
I'll be writing weekly regarding past and upcoming weddings letting you know a little about each event and passing on some of the ideas other brides and grooms have used at their weddings.
This past weekend I participated in the Palmdale Estates Bridal Faire in Fremont, CA. I've been attending this bridal show for many years and find it to be one of the best. Due to the smaller size of the show I actually have the opportunity to speak with brides and grooms. When I attend some of the larger bridal shows there is sometimes so much going on the brides and grooms don't have the opportunity to stop and talk.
Another nice feature of this bridal show is the staged wedding ceremony which takes place outdoors. As a vendor at this bridal show I provided the sound system for the ceremony which included a wireless tie clip microphone for the officiate so all in attendance could clearly hear what was said. I was also able to amplify the harpist through the sound system as well.
We began the ceremony with the entrance of the groomsmen, minister and groom followed by the bridesmaids, then the bride's entrance by horse drawn carriage. Take a look at the demo video on my web site if you are interested in seeing what this all looked like.
I didn't notice anything new from the usual mix of wedding vendors. However there seemed to be a renewed interest in wedding videography from the brides in attendance.

All in one Wedding venue
Wedding venue all in one?
Have you thought about where youd like your service to take place? You might prefer to get married in the church you attend, but remember that guests will then have to drive to the reception from there. You could consider asking your minister to conduct the service at the venues chapel. It might ease the tension a little if youre getting dressed in a bridal suite at the venue, with your service only a few steps away, and welcome drinks waiting for your guests after the service. When you visit the venue before the wedding day, make sure there's enough space around the altar for a minister, bridesmaids, groomsmen, photographers, videographers, musicians, mike stands, instruments, flowergirls and whoever else needs to be accommodated there. It's easier for us to be unobtrusive if we're not knocking over something or someone in an attempt to get out the way.

Hawaii Weddings and Events celebrates!
It's hard to imagine that a full year has passed since Hawaii Weddings and Events opened its event planning firm in 2006.
The secret to success is from the reputation of excellence, over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and of course word of mouth referrals are always the best!
Dianna K. Shitanishi, CPCE, CMP, not only loves event planning, but she graciously takes the time to teach others who are interested in the industry and is currently involved in developing an internship program through her local chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives (see http://nacehawaii.com)
"I truly believe you must have a passion to succeed in this industry, so I like to teach others so that they understand the reality of event planning. Many are interested in event after seeing beautiful pictures, or watching all of the bridal shows, but dont understand the complexities that can be involved in creating that vision.
I really love the creativity of event planning (especially being involved in the decor evolution) and having an opportunity to be of service to people from all over the world for their most special occasions."

First, The 2007 Seattle Wedding Show was a smashing success! We created a lavendar, purple, chocolate and ivory booth full of Calla Lilies, Orchids, Roses and many other blooms. The wreaths created this super neat modern/romantic feel that was warm, inviting and so very wedding....
The booth.....An arrangment of Callas, Roses, Lilies, Orchids, Hydrangea, Protea and Willow....
The wreaths created this 3 dimensional wall treatment...

Next, The 2007 Lynnwood Bridal Show also featured chocolate brown, but this time with rust, crimson and gold accents. Lots of thanks to our friends at Bbj linens-these beautiful fabrics added great texture and depth. See their great collections at bbjlinen.com
Enjoy... The booth...ahh, those linens!
The bouquet table featured Roses, Rananculous, chocolate Fern curls, Callas and Freesia...
A great standing piece..Something smaller but fabulous!

Your Dream Guest List
Here are some thoughts...a re-printed article I thought was interesting
How Many & Who??
A Tale of Two Lists
Generate a fantasy guest list. Don't censor yourself. Instead, include every single person you'd like to invite. Then come back down to earth. Your target number will be determined by how many people the venue can hold and what your budget will allow. People will be cut-it's unavoidable. So to help make decisions, separate out the guests who must attend, like your favorite aunt or your fiance's godfather. This is your A list. Anyone not essential (no, we don't mean people you don't like, but rather colleagues you might be able to skip) should be added to the B list. These are people you would enjoy having at your wedding but who cannot be extended an offer in the first round.
You should invite approximately 10 percent more guests than your target number, since between 10 and 20 percent of those invited will decline. If more people decline than you originally anticipated, start inviting from the B list. If it's a week before your wedding and you guaranteed, say, 200 guests and only 192 are showing up, it's okay to call and personally ask people to attend. Apologize for the short notice and extend a heartfelt verbal invite.
Meet the Parents' Friends
Just who is Sylvia Klein and why is she invited to your wedding? You'll be asking yourself many of these questions. Traditionally the bride's parents paid for the wedding, giving them the upper hand in extending invitations. Now, many couples pay for their own weddings, but they're still subject to parental input on who gets invited.
You need to be respectful of your parents and future in-laws; realize they are as excited about the wedding as you are. They want to share their happiness with good friends, and you need to honor their wishes-or at least some of their wishes. One possible plan: If the two of you are footing most of the bill, give each set of parents a certain number of people they can invite.
Some couples on a budget let parents invite as many guests as they want-within the space's capacity, of course-but ask that they pay for those guests.
Office Politics
No doubt the talk at the water cooler will be who got the invite and who got the shaft. Deciding which coworkers to include depends on how big your office or department is. If you work in a group of six, you can't leave out the one slacker just because she pawns off her work on everyone else.
But if you have a huge office and collaborate with dozens of people, it gets tricky. A good rule of thumb is that if you socialize outside of work and have the person's home number and use it, you should probably invite them. It's okay to include close friends and key people who might help further your career in the future. But don't use an invite to brownnose-it won't get you a promotion or a bonus. As for the big boss (or bosses), choose which superiors you work with the most. Half the time they'll decline, note your generosity, and just send a gift. And if you want to keep who's invited on the down low, you can always ask those guests not to tell anyone they're invited.
Kidding Around
Weddings with lots of kids can be great for some couples, hell for others. It's your decision. But if you'd like an adults-only reception, you'll need to establish guidelines and invite children over a certain age-or keep anyone under 18 off the list.
Can't decide if kids are appropriate or not? If your wedding is in the morning or afternoon, it's more appropriate for youngsters to attend. For one, they're awake! An evening affair is usually a kid-free zone and adults generally realize it's their time to let loose and not chase after their little ones on the dance floor or scold them for running fingers through the icing on the wedding cake.
If guests make a fuss and threaten not to come to your wedding without their toddlers or infants, express your regrets but tell them that it would be unfair to others you've said no to (the only exceptions are usually for immediate family).
Making the Cut
So you've followed these points -- and you still have 300 names and a location that holds 175. Oh, the guilt! While you might feel bad about deleting names from the list, you and your fiance need to develop parameters for cutting that won't make you feel terrible.
One groom's fantasy football league is another bride's book club. You'll both need to reflect on which of your acquaintances is important enough to witness your wedding. It's probably not necessary to invite your entire sorority pledge class if you haven't seen half of them since college. Focus on people who are relevant to your life now...and who will be relevant five years from now. You know that couple you keep bailing on dinner plans with? They can probably go to the bottom of the list.
You don't have to invite couples you're not close with anymore just because you went to their weddings. If anyone will understand, it's those who had to do the same. The key to the cut is doing it as efficiently and quickly as possible to ease the pain -- kind of like removing a Band-Aid.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU DONメT LIKE YOUR RING
Like the man you are marrying, itメs important to love your ring. Remember that man is also your best friend ヨ you can tell him anything. Now there are ways to approach this situation.
If you love the diamond and itメs absolutely gorgeous to you, but not the setting ヨ simply tell him after wearing it a few days/weeks itメs not your style after all. If you donメt like the entire ring all together ヨ start off by telling him how special his proposal was and how it was sweet of him to find a ring on his own, but say its not what you visualized wearing long term.
He may be a little hurt and disappointed, but he would love your honesty and want you to be happy.
We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

Borthwick Castle, Edinburgh Scotland part of a Castle Honeymoon Tour
Tranquility, history and service - the perfect getaway yet only half an hourメs drive from Edinburgh.
For nearly 600 years Borthwick Castle has overlooked the gently rolling hills on the edge of the romantic Scottish Borders. One can easily imagine that Mary Queen of Scots looked from her bedchamber window onto a very similar landscape in the 16th Century.
The Castle's long and illustrious history has romance and drama and the walls still bear the battle-scars of Cromwell's cannon.
Nowadays, with central heating and en-suite bathrooms, the castle retains a medieval ambience which charms even the most seasoned travellers.

Dining: The candlelit Great Hall is a magnificent setting for an intimate dinner for two the experience is unforgettable. With its high vaulted ceiling, enormous fireplace and the minstrel gallery at one end, it is Scotland's most beautiful medieval Great Hall.
Local Activities: Borthwick Castle is ideally situated in the heart of the countryside but within half an hour's drive of Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh there are numerous golf courses and walks in the area.

Seasonal Themes & Color Trends; How to Make Them Work for You
As spring unfurls all new green and sunshine gold, Iメm transfixed with the possibilities for color; color in layers, color in textures, color in varying shades & tones, color expressed through themes and seasons. While the opportunities for color are absorbing, they can also be endlessly confusing. So, where to begin?
1) Start simple. One way to do so is to think seasonally. For instance, the hot-hot trend for spring and summer is bright! Start with a bright that appeals to you. Are you a racy candy-apple red kind of woman, or does daisy-button yellow light up your world? Maybe, Mediterranean blue sweeps you away. Choose one color statement, then accent with neutral white and a single complimentary pastel.
Examples of this strategy: white & yellow w/ periwinkle, white & candy-red with chartreuse, white & bright blue w/ light coral, white & violet w/ butter-cream).
Note: Another simple, fail proof way to implement brights is color-on-color, aka, monochrome (which is a term that sounds so boring, I rarely use the ho-hum word for such a brilliant idea. Blah.). Start with your bright. Then add a tint* of the same color two degrees lighter, and another tint two more steps down. Getting a graduated paint chip sample is a great way to establish a visual of this idea.
2) Add texture. A color-on-color scheme can become more dramatic with texture incorporated. For a beach wedding in neutrals (like khaki) & pastels, the interest in injected with the addition of reed & bamboo centerpieces, woven grass mats, soft lighting and the reflective surfaces of copper lanterns and a shell & beach glass aisle runner.
3) Choose a theme. Though the theme is not mandatory (I recently worked with a bride who was in a minor panic because she didnメt have one. モIs this a requirement?ヤ she asked me, obviously perplexed.), it often helps clarify a cloudy vision. Carefully pick and choose what elements from your inspiration youメd like to incorporate. For instance, an Autumn Harvest wedding is going to naturally lead you to warm, welcoming color choices. Pick a few seasonal elements (pale-yellow crookneck squash, creamy colored wicker baskets, shady+-crimson chrysanthemums, rust-tone maple leaves), and STOP. The challenge with a theme is to walk the fine line between too-little-to-notice, and so-much-excess that your wedding becomes an amusement park attraction. Because of this balancing act the theme wedding is one very good reason to look for a Planner.
4) Lastlyナ have fun with it! My last, most important piece of advice is that this is your wedding! Donメt give up your favorite shade of fresh lime green because your third brideメs maid prefers cocoa-latte satin. Yes, you should be guest conscious, within the bounds of reason. But if you try to please everyone all the time, you wonメt be pleased yourself, Be true your dream. Your wedding day is the last day you ever want to have モwhat-if?ヤ regrets.

+shade: color w/ black added

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR DRESS FITS
As youメre out shopping for your dream dress make sure to keep these 6 tips in mind.
So grab your gown profiles and these tips and head into the dressing room!
Your dress will fit if you canナ.
1. Sit down and cross your legs on a chair or couch
2. Walk easy and comfortably around the store
3. Bend and turn easy
4. Raise your arms above your head
5. Dance in the store
6. Breathe
It always helps to take those pages you ripped out of the magazines to your salesperson at the bridal shop. This will help give her an idea of what it is your looking for in a wedding dress. Also, make sure to take someone with that will give you honest feedback.
We would love to talk with you. Please call us at: (425) 355-1415 and tell us about your wedding daydreams and how we can help you fulfill them. You could also email me at colleen@luminaphotography.com.

Travel agents in the world of 24/7
I admit it. I'm over 25 and no longer thrill to all things new. On the other hand, I live in a 24/7 world, can't do a days work without the internet and don't know how we survived without Google. So I'm often asked "If everything and anything can be found online, why use a travel agent?"
There are many answers, but let's start with the most important reason and one that's not understood by many -
A travel agent is on YOUR side. Our role is to find the best vacation or honeymoon for YOU!
We do not sell a single destination and do not work for a resort or visitor's bureau so have no reason to send you to Kauai in February (it rains a lot) or tell you there was no damage from the hurricane off Cancun (there was).
We do not work for a cruise line so have no reason to overcome your objections to cruises. (There are boring ships, overly long itineraries and places you will be uncomfortable if you're prone to motion sickness.) A great travel agent wants you to have a great trip. So if cruising is right for you, well great! If not, we'll recommend something else.
We do not entice customers by advertising "guaranteed lowest fares" or prices "starting from" so we have no need for fine print, a list of terms and conditions or black out dates. The prices we quote will be for the trip you will be taking.
We do not count on 60% of our clients "upgrading" upon arrival (some online agencies do) and won't suggest a room or resort unless you will be happy the moment you arrive.
We are not paid by the airlines and have absolutely no motivation to sell you an airline ticket unless it helps get you somewhere fun!
So what the heck does a travel agent do? We find the best vacation or honeymoon for you at the lowest price that will work for you. Next time you are planning a vacation or honeymoon please call us. We want YOU to be happy and OUR business depends on it!
