Jafar + Hailey = Married

Hailey is one of my wife's best friends for several years, and I have been great friends with Jafar for the last year. It was an absolute pleasure to photograph their wedding. It was held in the smallest one-room church that I've ever seen in Allyn, Washington.

Well Summer is here, I think,

A tip to all brides out there, make sure that your site has AC or even fans, on site, this is very important, because of some weddings recently didn't and the guests did leave early, when she booked the site, she knew this about the site, but with weather you never know what can happen, Sometimes it is a great idea to have a back up plan, No she was not un happy that they guest left early, but it is very important to have this item.

Also for outdoor weddings have a table or a waiter to walk around serving some nice cold water with even a lemon slice on the glass it does provide a nice tough to all events.

Even some other ideas, would be some leamonade, ice tea, just even a signature drink that is special to both of you would be great to serve.

Take a break with a joke

Jesus is Watching You

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his flashlight around,
looking for valuables; and when he picked up a CD player to place in his
sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying, "Jesus
is watching you."

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze.
When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, promised
himself a vacation after the next big score, then clicked the light on
and began searching for more valuables. Just as he pulled the stereo out
so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, "Jesus is
watching you."

Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the
source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight
beam came to rest on a parrot.

Did you say that?" he hissed at the parrot.

"Yep," the parrot confessed, and then squawked, "I'm just trying to warn
you."

The burglar relaxed "Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?"

"Moses," replied the bird.

"Moses?" the burglar laughed... "What kind of people would name a bird
Moses?"

"The kind of people that would name a Rotweiller Jesus."

Yes, You Do Know What You Want, You Are Very Smart!

Recently, I had a client who came to me who said, "I don't know what I want, but I know the colors I want my invitations to be. And, I know I want a one of a kind look". So, I asked her to NOT look at anything before she came in. I asked her to wait to see our samples. And, when she arrived, and brought her samples, I had her draw for us. I had her draw scribble with her eyes closed and her opposite hand on paper, and then, to color it in in whatever colors would soothe her anxiety about what was going on. She agreed to do this. Then, I asked her to tell me about the picture she had drawn, and how she felt now that it was drawn. My purpose since I am also a licensed therapist was to set aside her anxiety about what she thinks she knows, and doesn't and hopefully, to give her some time to adjust to being with me. Then, I asked her to draw a scribble with her dominant hand or her opposite, and to color it in in her wedding colors, any she is using...dresses, sashes, flowers, etc. and make it look gorgeous....use the paper anyway you wish to color it.....and after, tell me about your picture. And, guess what, she had just told me about her dreams for her invitations. And, then, I get to say, "you see, you do know what you want." This discovery process took only a few minutes, and we accomplished two things...some trust in herself, and also a focus for what we are going to do. Our process is a creative one. We are here to take the stress out of the process for you too, and show you that you do know what you want. Then, we begin the process of doing this just for you. Judy Lilley

Tips on hiring a DJ for your next event!

HIRING A DJ: POINTS TO CONSIDER

Hiring a Disc Jockey for your wedding ceremony, wedding reception or other event here in the Greater Pittsburgh area or any other city or state? It is our hope to give you the tools to pick the RIGHT entertainer. Please read this carefully...and choose well.

When you plan a party of any sort, your objective is to ensure that your guests have a good time, period. The company you choose to handle your wedding reception or special event entertainment will have a greater degree of effect on the success of the event than any other factor. The DJ that you choose will be your spokesperson that day and everything they say or do will be a DIRECT reflection on you.

Here are some important points to remember when you interview a DJ company.

Will the person that you interview perform at your event?

This is the most common complaint about the DJ industry today....The person you interview is NOT the person that will actually perform at your event. Ask the DJ service you plan to interview if he/she will be the actual person performing, or if someone else will perform the event. Ask if you can meet the person who will be assigned to your event. You need to know this UP FRONT before you decide or sign a contract. Preferably, you should meet both the owner/contact AND the actual DJ.

There are plenty of "Multi Operator" services out there who will be 100% upfront with you regarding this particular aspect of their service and will be glad to arrange for you to meet your prospective entertainer.

Likewise, there are dishonest companies that will purposely mislead you into thinking that the person you interview is your DJ. When it comes time for the show, someone you have NEVER met shows up. This tactic, known as "bait and switch", represents the most damaging act that DJ companies inflict on the buying public.

Bottom Line: If you don't get a good answer when you ask this question, FIND a different DJ service.

Can you expect prompt return of your phone calls or Emails?

You should expect to get a call back or an Email back within 24 hours. There are many DJ's who may be at a show when you call. Be sure to leave a good call back number and your name, as well as the time frame you need entertainment for. In fact, provide as much information as possible. This will help the DJ to give you more information about their service and give you an accurate assessment of what they will charge to handle your event.

Bottom Line: Be persistent in your contact as many services are very busy, and provide detail so that they can talk to you.

Will they ask to meet with you and present his/her service?

A good DJ Service will want to meet with you and anyone you wish to be present to talk about your special day event. They will want to make sure that you are 100% comfortable, and will not try to use fear or pressure as a mechanism to book you. They will speak about all of the aspects of his/her service, and answer any questions you have.

Bottom Line: Avoid DJ services that do not want to meet you, and only want the contract or check before they will try to help you.

What value are you placing on your entertainment?

You need to assess the value you place on the entertainment service you choose. For example, on a scale of 1 to 10, how important will your entertainment be? Think about what the impact of having bad entertainment (or worse, no entertainment)is with respect to the success of your event. Find out what services your DJ has available and can perform for you.

Select your DJ service on the overall VALUE that they bring to your event. In many cases, your event may be a one of a kind or one time only event. You most likely are not planning to simply show up and "wing it" through an event such as your wedding. You shouldn't hire a DJ service that will do that either. Understand what specific services your DJ company will bring to bear when you interview them. A list of many of those services are at the bottom of this page.

Bottom Line: Choose entertainers based on their value rather than look at them as a commodity.

Will the DJ offer to meet with you AFTER signing the contract to plan your event?

A professional DJ is ALWAYS willing to discuss your event at any time before the event starts, and should display the flexibility to accommodate changes and help you solve problems. Meeting your DJ to plan your event is of paramount importance to a successful event such as a wedding reception. Your DJ should discuss the follow up planning. The DJ should also work with you to decide on an appropriate time to meet with you to accomplish the planning phase of your event.

Will you have to plan this by yourself?

A new trend these days is the use of "online planners", where the client gets to "plan their own party" on the Internet. While many clients think this is "cutting edge" and "cool", the reality is that many companies employ this tool to minimize the time they spend with you, maximize their profit, and place the responsibility for the success of your own reception on your shoulders. The use of technology is a good thing, but nothing takes the place of well invested time to advance plan the event. If the company you interview is not willing to invest that time with you in advance, you may be in for a big disappointment come time for your event to start. In some circumstances, such as out of state, where email and phone are the primary avenues of communication, as long as you feel good about the level of communication taking place, this is OK.

Bottom Line: Plan your party in person with your entertainer if at all possible.

Do you LIKE the person that you interview at your meeting?

There is NOTHING worse in the world than having to do business with someone you do not like. Choosing the person who "feels" right is the most important factor in picking the right entertainer for your party or reception. The DJ you choose should be very open about what he/she can do for you and should volunteer information and show you that they are comfortable with the type of event you are planning. A good DJ service wants you to be 100% comfortable with your choice you make and will not use fear tactics to scare you into booking them. Bottom line, this is a completely emotion driven choice.

Bottom Line: If you do not feel good about choosing a DJ service, do NOT book them.

Is the person knowledgeable about your type of event?

Not every DJ is qualified to handle every type of event.

Rather than ask "how much do you charge" as your first question, you should ask your DJ, "Can you handle my event"?

Ask the DJ how many events of your type that he/she has done. As you interview your DJ, if you do not get the impression that the DJ is comfortable with your event and specific needs, you should interview more companies before you make a selection. The DJ should spend time listening to you describe what you want to happen, and get excited about your event.

What does the DJ use to procure your business?

You should expect to see several documents that the DJ service uses to display their service and demonstrate HOW they will conduct and plan your event. First and foremost is a planner. This planner should impress you enough to the point where you understand that the DJ you are hiring is a professional, and is capable of handling your event. A sample copy of the CONTRACT to be used should be available as well as a schedule of pricing information. A DJ may also give you a list of references. CALL THEM!! Ask if there were any issues or problem areas when the person dealt with the DJ.

Of course, you will most likely not get a bad reference, but you should be able to note elements of consistency between what the DJ tells you in the interview and what his/her clients have told you.

Does the DJ have a music list ?

You need to be assured that the DJ you hire not only has a sizeable collection, but has a variety of music, especially for wedding receptions, where many different styles of music will be requested and several different age groups will be in the same room together. Ask to see a music list. Find out if the DJ service you want to hire will work to acquire the music you need to ensure your event's success. Having a large library is not nearly as important as having a large selection of music that you, the client, need to have played at your event. Find out if your DJ will be flexible with requests for special music, and will follow your direction(if you give direction) about "do not plays" and "must plays".

Does the DJ use professional grade equipment?

If the DJ does not have pictures of his or her gear, you should ask to set up a time to see the equipment or see pictures of the DJ's set up. You should not expect to be invited to someone's wedding or private event to accomplish this however. The DJ should be able to tell you what he/she uses and characterize the equipment as professional grade. You should not expect to recognize off the shelf stereo components from Best Buy or Circuit City in use at your reception.

In Closing:

You should consider your DJ entertainer as an insurance policy you buy that ensures that all of the other money you spend will not result in bad memories or a less than enjoyable occasion. Good entertainment is NOT cheap, and cheap entertainment is NOT good.

If you answered 9 or 10 in the value question raised above, that means you are placing 90 to 100% of the success of your event on your entertainer. Now consider the percentage of money you are spending with respect to the amount you have budgeted for the event. In many cases, clients budget less than 5% of their money on entertainment, but expect the entertainment to be the main factor in making the event a success.

Does that make sense?

Your DJ, if you have chosen a good one, will display many of the following skills and attributes before and at your event:

- Master of Ceremonies and Time management

- Party/event planner and event coordinator

- Comprehensive library of music

- Professional grade equipment

- Follow the plan that you and he/she have worked out using the planner

- Flexibility to adapt to sudden changes -

- Problem solving skills and innovative out of the box thinking

- Seamless continuous music at all times unless otherwise specified

- Sound technician/Light technician

- Ability to read a crowd and pick the right music

- Audience motivator

- Referral service for other event professionals

I promise to honor and cherish her credit rating?

Honestly, how many credit cards do you need? To esablish credit, three lines is nice to prequalify for a home or business loan. The longer you have that line of credit with on time monthly payments the better.

Did you know that having 50% or less on your credit cards actually raises your credit score? Example: You have 5 credit cards, four are close to being maxed out, and the one has a lot of room, you can transfer half the amount of the others to the one that has the room, as long as you keep your amount at or under 50% of the credit line per card. Does this mean your have less debt, no, but your eligibility changes for a loan. Neat huh?

Find out what your credit score is? Make your payments on time, pay extra if you can every month, and never over extend yourself. This way, you can elimate a lot of unnessesary stress over money from your life, and be able to invest in the future.

The best investment for newly weds

Buy a house, a nice little starter home. Plain and simple.

Think you can't afford it, ask yourself, how much do you pay someone else in rent a month? Take that number and multiply that by 12 and that's what you are paying someone else a year and not yourself.

Your wedding is a time in your life where others are helping you with the resources to start your life as a couple, the best investment you can do as a couple is home ownership.

Look for a fixed rate with either a 15 or 30 year mortgage, where you are making payments toward the principle and interest of the loan. Be wary of interest only loans, and interest rates that aren't fixed. Live in the house for a couple of years, and as your new family grows, sell or rent out the house you bought, and take the equity to buy your next bigger home.

Life is all about steps, small steps toward the bigger goal.

Sandals Whitehouse on Jamaica's south coast

I just returned from a fantastic vacation at Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica. Whitehouse opened 2 years ago and was the last of 17 Sandals and Beaches Resorts on 5 different Caribbean islands for me to visit. When I met with the General Manager he said I saved the best for last and he could be right!

Sandals Whitehouse combines a fabulous beach with three wonderful pools, 7 excellent and diverse restaurants, beautiful rooms (every one oceanfront) and an absolutely outstanding staff.

You can enjoy water volleyball, games, contests, and your favorite Caribbean eats and drinks at the French Village pool; quiet reading and relaxing by the Dutch Village pool; or people watching, sunning & swimming in the huge signature pool with swim up bar near the Italian Village. There are Jacuzzis scattered throughout the property as well.

On the beach youll find lots of lounge chairs in the sun or shade and an excellent watersports staff to entice you with waterskiing, knee boarding, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, a glass bottom boat and scuba diving. All complimentary for Sandals guests.

As a certified scuba diver, I made two dives daily with tanks, BCD, mask, fins & snorkel at no cost. A limited number of wet suits are available for a $5 fee, but most will find the 86 degree water comfortable in a bathing suit. I sure did! The dive sites are diverse and I particularly enjoyed "The Maze" with its many swim-throughs and chimneys. "Deep Cottage" where a few dozen lobster taunted us from under a coral shelf was another of my favorites.

If you're not a diver but would like to try, the resort course is a fantastic deal. For $70 you receive 2 hours of safety and pool training then one dive daily, with equipment, for the length of your vacation. Your depth is limited to a safe 35-40 feet and divemasters provide plenty of TLC. However if you fall in love with diving, Sandals Whitehouse has a complete PADI dive center and teaches all the courses from open water to advance and specialties. So you can arrive with no dive experience and leave the resort a certified diver. How cool is that!

When you're hungry, there's everything from a beachside bar & grill or Tex-Mex to Asian, Italian and Caribbean specialties with white glove service. We asked our servers for recommendations and had a great meal every night! During the day, shorts and flip flops are fine but in the evening "casual elegance" is suggested and men will want long pants and a collared shirt (think khakis & a polo). None of the restaurants accept reservations so most guests choose a restaurant, check in, then enjoy a drink and music outdoors in the torch lit, Italian style piazza or in the air conditioned martini bar.

At night there is entertainment at the night club and piano bar but with all the scuba diving, sun and fine dining I must admit to having lights out each night before midnight. There's nothing like returning to a beautiful oceanfront room with king size bed, walk in shower and Jacuzzi tub after a long day of play. Sandals Whitehouse is another piece of paradise and definitely my kind of place!

A one week all inclusive honeymoon or vacation for two has been starting around $3700 with airfare from Seattle, accommodations, meals, drinks, watersports and entertainment. Call us when you're ready to be wowed!
We have 3 certified Sandals Specialists on staff.

Is the POST OFFICE saving you money?

On May 14th, the one ounce postage cost of a letter went up 2 cents.

What many brides did NOT realize is that he 2nd ounce went down in cost. An average weighted invitation is more than 1 ounce and less than 2 ounces. So, for a while, brides have been spending $.63 to mail a single invitation.

NOW, that cost is $.58 for an invitation that is 2 ounces or less.

However, the post office changed some OTHER THINGS. For instance, oversized letters would go for their weight alone. Now, depending on the dimensions, the cost could be higher than $.58 or $.41 even if the weight is 2 ounces or 1 ounce or less.

Please take one of every single item, and put it together ready to mail to your post office BEFORE you mail out a single item.

And, remember while postcards went up fro 24 cents to 26 cents, a larger card for a postcard response may cost you more but this card is NOT LIKELY to be misplaced due to its size.

The largest size post card can be 4.25 by 6 and still be mailed for 26 cents.

These are just a tiny part of the type of services we provide to our brides.

Live Webcast your Hawaii Wedding or Special Event - Live Internet Weddings

Destination weddings can now have the best of both worlds! For brides and grooms that have chosen Hawaii for their destination wedding, they can have their wedding in Paradise and still share it with family and friends back home.

Today's modern techology allows vendors such as Live Internet Weddings the opportunity to not only capture your wedding day in video, but to be able to broadcast it over the internet for friends and family to watch the ceremony live as is happening is simply amazing!

The original concept of the Live Internet Weddings was to help bring families together, especially at life's milestone moments. In addition to providing wedding couples with a means of sharing their day, we've also had the privilege of using their services for a Star Wars birthday party that was watched by family members in Korea who were unable to attend the special occasion.

Graduations are next to come!

Helpful Hints When Choosing Wedding Music

Hi Ladies! I've just finished with two planning meetings, back to back. Both couples had no clue which music to use for their specialty songs or how to choose their dance music for their wedding. So, here are my tips for choosing the best music for your wedding.

1. For your specialty songs, make sure both bride and groom agree. Your dj should have suggestion lists for each segment. If not, you do a google search for wedding music. There are tons of lists on the internet and most of them are very good.

2. Try to limit the "Do Not Play" list to just a few key songs. With AMT Entertainment, we will only play songs and genres that can be danced to, so you won't have to worry about the hard core rap or rock, or other music that is inappropriate. If you are not using us, definately communicate your wishes to your dj. But remember, even though you may not love the Electric Slide and other wedding standards, most of your guests will be expecting them. And they do help to get everyone involved.

3. Keep your "must play" list short and sweet. 8-10 songs max. Your dj's job is to take your music tastes and make a great dancing night out of it. If you restrict your dj to playing only what is on a list you've created, you will not get the optimum performance. You're paying good money for him, let him do his job (he should love it)!

4. Most of all, if there have been previous marriages in either person's life, make sure you include those weddings songs on the "Do Not Play" list.

I hope this information helps you in your search for the perfect music. If you have any questions, feel free to call me directly!

Sincerely,

Ann Marie

Nicole Miller Dresses are Perfect for Hawaii

I found the Nicole Miller line to be perfect for Hawaii weddings. Most of the gowns are silk or lightweight metallic taffeta making movement down the aisle, on the beach or for the first dance for photos easy and effortless. After seeing their gorgeous advertisements in several classy and update wedding mags. I really thought the Nicole Miller styles were perfect for tying the knot here in the islands. The line is classic and timeless fun, festive and ranging from tasteful traditional styles to modern chic. One bride described her dress as deconstructed rather than over-the-top frill and pouf. To my surprise, I have had bride after bride tell me they were ready to fly to L.A. to buy their dress after looking and looking and not finding any designer lines.

We have a wide range of Bridal Gowns and Bridesmaid dresses in our Bridal Boutique at Modern Pacific Weddings Lounge. More designer lines coming soon!

Best Wishes,

Regan

If I had unlimited income, I would...

...always wear brand new socks and throw them away at the end of the day, but the truth is that money isn't infinite, and there is a limit to the amount you are going to use on your wedding. The cheapest isn't always the best value, because you are getting what you pay for.

Some things to look for in a caterer:

A caterer that just shows you pictures of food and not have food to taste really doesn't want your business. I can describe how something tastes, but unless you sample it, are you sure you want to go with the menu choices?

Does your caterer stay the duration of the event, or are you cleaning up?

Is there a lesser cost for small children?

Do you have pictures of other events?

Keep these things in mind when shopping around, and please, shop around so you know that the person or company you choose, best suits your needs.

Wedding Albums- The Good, The Bad and the Traditional

Wedding Albums: The Good the Bad and the Traditional

Most brides have specific criteria they follow when looking for a wedding photographer. Normally it includes these three ideas:

1. I want my photographer to take amazing images that make me look beautiful.
2. I don't want to max out another credit card just to afford the photographer.
3. When the wedding is over, I want to have a great album to display.

The first two criteria aren't too difficult, but since most people have never had a reason to compare different wedding albums until they decide to get married, it can be a confusing decision. Below I have a list of some of the most popular types of wedding albums available in today's market. I also have included three definitions of some of the most popular styles that I (and many other photographers) use for wedding albums. This list is in no way definitive, it's simply a good place to start looking. Hopefully it will help you understand what is available and make you a well informed consumer. If after reading this blog you would like to see samples of the wedding albums offered by Irene Jones Photography please don't hesitate to contact me and set an appointment.

Matt Albums:

This type of album has been the standard for& well forever. Each photo is inserted into a predetermined cut out or window matt. Each page varies in number of images and the size of print they can hold. Conventionally pages have between one and four window openings. The best comparison I can think of is that the pages are similar to the paper folders that prom or senior photos came with. Most pages are inserted into the book individually and pages can be added, removed, or lost if the book is damaged.

The production quality is high, and of course the books are made with the finest materials, bonded leathers and acid free papers, but they do lack the modern feel that appeals to so many brides. While the look is luxurious, so is the price due to production costs. Each matt page is purchased individually, plus the cost for each print and then the price of the cover.

Flush Mount Albums:

Over time the Matt Albums have given way to a variety of Flush Mount Albums. These albums are made by mounting a photographic print (glued on top of the page) and then lacquered for a protective finish. Commonly these pages have the thickness of cardboard. The pages also lay completely flat so the entire image is shown when a photograph (or collage of images) spread across two pages.

There is also the option of using a Self Mounting Album, which is a less expensive option, but the overall quality is less. These albums are used by many photographers and do-it-yourself brides alike. The biggest draw back is that images cannot spread across two pages without being cut down the middle and a gap showing between each page. There is also room for error when applying the photographs. If each image is not trimmed and placed perfectly, the sloppy edges will show. Worse yet, bubbles can form where the photo didn't correctly stick to the page. This can become very obvious and distracting. As a disclaimer, Irene Jones Photography does NOT use any Self Mounting products and the Coffee Table Book offered by my company are manufactured to the highest standards by a leader in the wedding industry. There are more details about this product below, so keep reading!

Book Albums:

Often these books are described as a high quality library volume, which means they are sewn together and given a hardbound cover. Unlike Matt and Flush Mount Albums, the photographs are printed directly onto the page. This provides for a large variety of versatility in cover style, materials, and the type of paper the images are printed on. Many Book Albums also use Lay Flat Bindings like the Flush Mount Albums, but can have some minor image overlap at the spine. The best way to resolve this problem is choosing a style for your album that keeps this fact in mind (see the Fine Art Album below). Additionally, creative graphic design can minimize this problem and make it nearly unnoticeable.

Album Styles:

For most brides, this is where it gets confusing. The style of the book indicates how the images are displayed, not necessarily the kind of book the photographs are displayed in. Here are a few attractive styles that I use for my wedding albums.

The Hardbound Magazine Style Album:

By far this is my post popular product. This book, like all of my albums, details your wedding from start to finish, incorporates text and other personal elements (invitations, poetry, baby photos), and is designed specifically for each client. No two albums are alike. This Book Album uses a wealth of different design elements such as image collages, fading, combinations of black and white, sepia tone and color, and borders to create the overall look of each album. All of the images (an average of 125 or more) are personally selected by you and you have the final approval of every page before it goes to press. The name Magazine Style represents the kind of layouts you'd find in a high end fashion magazine. Each image is printed directly onto the heavy weight semi-gloss paper. My client's prefer this album because of its unique characteristics and affordable price tag. Albums start at only $400.00 for a 40 page book. Additional pages and images can always be included. Parents Albums are also available.

The Fine Art Album:

This is where the traditional Matt Albums come into the next century. Instead of dropping photographic images into pre-cut window mattes, a variety of images are printed on each page with a sloppy border (see example photograph) and white space around each image that provides a clean tailored feel. No image crosses the spine of the book, illuminating any possibility of cropping. All the pages are premium quality matte finish paper* which enhances the look and feel of each photographic image. Some images are printed one per page and others have up to nine images sharing the page in a grid format. This gives the book all of the classic elements found in the Matt Albums with all of the benefits of the digital photography revolution. And because these books are all hand sewn and bound, they are flawless in their quality. As with the Hardbound Magazine Albums, you choose your images (up to 600) and the layout of each page. Text can also be added. Discerning brides are often drawn to the Fine Art Album for its timeless sense of style. Prices for this album start at $500.00 and vary according to the number of images and their layout.

The Coffee Table Album:

This is the only Flush Mount Album offered by Irene Jones Photography and I am proud to say that it is a high quality product that should please any fashionable bride. The Coffee Table Album uses some of the same design elements as the Hardbound Magazine Album, while letting the images speak for themselves. Most of the images fill one or two pages while other pages show a collection of images that tell your story. On average 100 images are included in each book. The designs are simple, yet elegant. All of the photographs are bonded to the page and then lacquered to prevent damage. This gives each page a glossy shine while it protects. With the lay flat binding, your images will never be distorted as they cross the spine of your album. Again, you have the freedom to choose and help with the design of your album; insuring your satisfaction. Coffee Table Albums come in a variety of sizes and cover materials. Prices start at $300.00 to $1500.00 depending on the book size and the number of images.

For more information about any of the albums and their various styles displayed here please contact me directly at 425.367.4781. If you wish to set up a personal consultation, you can see samples for yourself and we will discuss what options will work best for you. More information about these albums can also be found at http://ijphoto.net/services/albums_media .

*Matte Paper (not to be confused with Matt Albums) simply describes the finish of the page. Matte paper is the opposite of glossy and it is used by most professional photographic labs as the standard finish for photographic prints.

Married life

I got married last year, and March was our one year anniversary. Things have truly been a blessing for us, with the birth of our daughter in April. Who knows what this next year will bring? Marriage is full of surprises, for you can make plans of what you think are going to happen, and life is what happens inbetween those plans. Getting ready for the wedding is very much the same, take everything one step at a time, in the end, it all works out.

Bridal trivia

Did you know that a traditional wedding kimono from Japan can have up to 12 layers?

Did you know that the wedding ring originally was worn on the middle finger?

Did you know that getting married at church, use to mean at the church door?

Did you know that in Italy historically, women were banned from many public events so to not run into inappropriate men, and even had to stay away from windows, and young men made an effort to try to get the attention of the woman behind the blinds from the street by passing up and down the street repeatedly.

Ah, how things have changed...

Recommended book to read : The history of the Wife ( great for why we do the things we do at weddings )

Sheraton Moana Surfrider wedding..........

I often ask my destination weddings why they chose Oahu for their wedding.

In some cases it is because they wanted a more intimate wedding for if they did it in their home town the event may be upwards to 400 guests instead of 30-50.

In other cases, couples are originally from Hawaii and now live in the mainland and come home as most of their family and many of their friends are still here.

Yesterday's wedding at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider featured a bride from Japan and a groom that was originally from Canada. It was truly a melting pot of guests as friends and family traveled from all over the world to share their special day. For them, Hawaii was the "center" point between their two countries and the true beauty of the day was watching the two families embrace the day and welcoming each other into their lives.

There is such a great sense of satisfaction from helping people achieve their dreams and witness such love and friendliness between so many different cultures.

VISA and Mastercard, a great way to pay and save!

I'm a bargain hunter, something I got from my mother. One of the questions that I ask when selecting a credit card is "Can I get miles or points with this card?" Weddings shell out a lot of money, and the more you can get for it, the better off you are. So if you're paying for wedding services, see how the miles or points can benefit you. Who knows, you may just be able to fly yourself to your honeymoon for free.

Starfish Theme Wedding

Today I had a beautiful intimate wedding of 22 guests at The Kahala Hotel and Resort for a couple from California.

The color scheme was ocean blue and white and starfish were used throughout the wedding beginning with their save the date cards.

Guests were pleasantly surprised to be greeted with white tuberose leis tied with ocean blue ribbon and were impressed to find 4" starfish on their chairs that not only kept the theme of the event but served as an effective way of keeping the programs from blowing away.

Blue and white tuille adorned with three white starfish lined the aisle as the flower girls basket had starfish as well as the hairclips in the brides' hair. Ocean blue ribbon was entwined in the flower girls haku lei and wrapped around the gorgeous white calla lily bouquets held by the maid of honor and bride.

Of course, everyone in the wedding party, as well as the conch shell blower and myself (I always match my weddings) also were in different shades of ocean blue.

The sea shell wedding cake completed the picture along with starfish that adorned the cake knife and server. Arna got a great picture of the wedding rings on the starfish in the sand (can't wait to see it) along with another picture which included their invitation and save the date cards to capture their entire wedding in a storybook manner.

It is hard to describe the magnificance of such a simple affair in only words, but all of the "special touches" made for a remarkable day that everyone will always remember.

Sometimes it is hard to imagine that I actually get paid for helping to make dreams come true!

Romance with Paper

Artists' works are portrayed on it. Peace treaties are signed on it. Our Declaration of Independence was penned on it.

And, Declarations of Love are written it. Paper as a medium for design, for writing, and for personal expression reflects its own poetry, as an opportunity for pure innovation and unlimited creativity.

Through the years, a melding of an ancient craft and enlightened technology has occurred, creating new practices and opening new horizons for expression in paper. When we trace the history of paper, we find insight into man's tireless imagination and creativity. Today, this convergence of ancient and modern continues and paper emerges with greater variety and renewed appreciation of quality.

For one individual, paper is the space that translates what is conceived in the mind to what is authentic. To others, having access to the right paper represents abundant possibility. The very selection of paper now becomes an adventure, realizing that the end result will be based upon choice.

Today, as we always have, we stay in contact with those resources to source the finest papermakers around the globe, respecting the skill of the artisan and the unique attributes of the finished product. As we head into the future, heralding our 80th anniversary here in 2007, we remain steadfast in our commitment to diversity, quality, custom service, and an unparalleled level of professionalism.

We are sure you will want to touch and feel some of the thousands of papers we use for our work. We encourage you to inquire about our resources for paper by inquiring by email or phone, and look forward to sharing new possibilities, new directions and continued creative solution to your paper needs. You may learn more about what we have done with paper in print in our store on ebay, lilley printing, and on our website with the same name. www.lilleyprinting.com

Until next time, I remain, here, with lovely printed products and possibilities for new ones.

Our Romance with Paper!

Before entering first grade, I taught myself to read and then, to write on volumes of paper that seemed to be everywhere I showed up. Now, many years later, nothing has changed. If you find me, you will find paper....from legal pads to fine artisan papers with beautiful letterpress printing to books and letters I have kept for years.

THis led to a deep love of learning followed by years of seeking excellence in my education to college, and a career in teaching, and then a change of careers in my twenties to my advertising sales career with The Wall Street Journal. While there, I created and printed more paper while pursuing a master's in counseling and professional psychology, and after graduation, I married Bob Lilley, the owner of a Mom and Pop printing company begun by his own father. This has given me the opportunity to use my ability to use all the skills of these careers in one.....to teach, to create, to listen, to care, to meet the needs of someone uniquely, and to use my liberal arts education and my skills in listening to co-create with clients and capture their vision for their wedding invitations, whether in person, or over the net.

Brides get that we care, and when they do, they feel that their needs are heard, and this level of one on one client oriented work results in creating their vision for their weddings. Lilley Printing is celebrating it's 80th year as a family business. I personally invite you here to learn, to laugh, to enjoy and to walk beside me as I share with you moments of joy, moments of learning, helpful tips, and what I love about what we do when we put a work of joy in print. Look over my shoulder while we write about paper, about design, about printing, about wedding lists, about ways we have solved problems. and more inside tips, ideas, clues, and joys of printing.

Postage Changes......coming up are an opportunity to create custom stamps..

Please note that when mailing out your invitations that you will need use a 41 cent stamp for your response envelope beginning May 14th.

Oversize square response envelopes will require more postage than this. Please check with your local post office for the appropriate amount for this card if it is square.

Additionally, mail that weighs two ounces for an invitation will now be 58 cents, a reduction of five cents.

Postcards that have been 24 cents, will be 26 cents.

This is a good time to think about designing your own stamps or having us do them with your order so that you have pretty stamps for your wedding invitations.

Give Yourself Time

When planning your wedding, please give yourself the time you need to plan and execute the cards you will require that will make up your invitation ensemble.

Every bride wonders where to begin.

And, the answer lies in the amount of text and the wording that must be written and decided upon.

Getting quotes on invitations when one has an unusual set of circumstances or wording will be meaningless if the wording will not fit the card(s) selected...

This is why we encourage brides to begin the process early on the wording so that as they assemble pictures and samples of papers and colors, they get a clear vision of what they want their wedding invitations to become.

Invitations are items that are not rushed easily. It simply takes as long as it takes for each bride to get her list together, or a count, the wording written, directions and/or a map decided upon, and all the extras she may need for her wedding.

Write to us for a copy of our bridal stationery planning sheet, and let us help you begin the process of selecting fine stationery.

Why Should We Give Favors to our Guests?

What is the Purpose of Favors?

Over the years Wedding favors have become increasingly popular. Guests often look forward to receiving a keepsake favor to take home with them after the Wedding Reception. They can also be used for Engagement Parties, Showers, Rehearsal Dinners, and Attendant Gifts. They are the ideal way to say Thank You to your guests that came to help you celebrate your Special Day!

Favors add to the decor and theme of the event, ranging from simple candles or bookmarkers to elegant crystal or silver pieces that can later be displayed in a curio cabinet or on a fireplace mantle. See hundreds of Favor ideas at BridalFavorites.com

Some couples prefer to give the guests something edible, such as a small box of mints or chocolates. Even the boxes alone come in a large variety of shapes and colors, ranging from heart, cone, pyramid and purse shapes. Boxes can be topped with a decorative bow or a colorful silk flower chosen to coordinate with your wedding colors.

Favors can also be designed with the Season of the year as a theme. They can be practical, useful items, or they can coordinate with the theme of your wedding, such as Beach theme favors or Wine theme Favors. Personalized Favors can add your names and wedding date to the favor so that people remember you and your wedding day. Personalized Favors include glassware, coffee or tea packets, cocktail mixes, small honey jars, mint tins, and gourmet chocolate bars.

There are so many great ways to say Thank You...

Tahiti on a budget

It's easy to spend $10,000 or more for a week in Tahiti. In fact on my last trip I stayed in fabulous villas at Hotel Bora Bora and Le Taha'a Private Island and Spa that run $1000 per night. Yes, they are worth it!

But what if your budget isn't that generous? You can still enjoy Tahiti on a $4-6K budget; you just need to plan carefully.

One place to economize is by eliminating airfare to a more remote island. Moorea is a fantastic destination with wonderful beaches, fabulous views and reasonably priced overwater bungalows. And, best of all, you can get there by ferry from Tahiti! That will save most couples $6-700 right away.

Another option is to stay in a traditional hotel room rather than an overwater or beach bungalow. This will save you thousands of dollars and you'll still enjoy 4 star resort amenities without the luxury price tag. On the other hand, I don't recommend an overwater bungalow at a 2 star property. It's like buying an expensive house in a lousy neighborhood. You'll get much better value with the cheapest room at a nice resort - better beach, better pool, better service, better restaurants.

Speaking of food, food is expensive in Tahiti so your best bet is to starve... I'm kidding... a little... There are a few options that will keep body and soul together at a reasonable price. In Papeete, Les Roulottes offers inexpensive outdoor dining along the waterfront and a number of downtown restaurants are moderately priced. On Moorea you can buy cheese and fruit at a local market or have a pizza for dinner. However be forewarned, most couples spend $180 -200 dollars per day for meals. So plan accordingly!

Remember, once you've taken care of transportation, food and shelter all the really great things in Tahiti are free! Fabulous beaches, romance, turquoise water, time together, tropical breezes, unlimited sunshine, snorkeling, sunsets, more time together.... you get the picture!

Call me when it's time to make your plans - Linda, your Tahiti Tiara Specialist. 425 821-4100 or 800 321-7907
