Tip #1 - Wedding Time of Day
Did you know that the time of day of your wedding
is something to consider when you choose your makeup?
Yes, that's right. That's because natural lighting will affect
the colors you choose and how you apply your makeup.
You will want to apply a little more for an evening wedding,
and a lighter look for a daytime event.

New Makeup Ideas
Blemishes are probably inevitable before the big day so keep up your skin care regime and drink lots of water. I will always layer the concealer on blemishes to maximize coverage all day. But remember don't panic, it can be covered for the perfect wedding photo. Until next time...look for some ideas on eye color.

Good Design is Key to a Lasting Album
When a bride and groom hires a photographer, not only should style and personality be considered. You'll want an album that that'll last a lifetime and beyond. I've seen so many times when photographers use the latest trick or gimmick to add to an album. Think to yourself how will this look in 10, 20 or even 30 years! A classic, clean album design will bring years of enjoyment to come. I remember when super-imposed photo of the bride and groom in a champagne glass was the rage and how it looks so silly now!
Along with my photographic services, Jeannemarie photography also brings a classic elegant graphic design translating into your albums.
This year I was honored to provide and support Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) with my graphic design services. I loved working with the HIFF team and look forward to next year! If you are unfamiliar with the festival, it runs every fall at the end of October promoting cultural understanding of the East and West through cinema. I loved "Feet Unbound" a documentary about the 15,000 mile march and the women who survived. And the much anticipated film "Control" the biopic about Joy Divisions' Ian Curtis directed by Anton Corbijn a photographer well known for photographing U2's Joshua Tree Album cover. Bringing me back to my point on classic design&

Inspiration Boards to Tie Together the Look of Your Wedding
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. So much to be grateful for!
Do you absolutely love looking at wedding inspiration boards like I do? They are great for tying together the look and feel of a wedding. If you're wondering what I'm referring to, let me explain.
Inspiration boards are a collecting place for your wedding ideas regarding color, lighting, style, attire, etc. These ideas are gathered into one place~ i.e. paper or on the computer. Using an inspiration board is a fantastic way to coordinate your theme, style and desires, PLUS stay organized while planning for your wedding.
You can look to magazines, nature, wedding pictures, other weddings or anything that encourages you. You could even have two or three boards depending on your inspiration. Have fun and be inspired!
For more ideas, come see what our brides-to-be are ordering at www.MagnetStreetWeddings.com. Click on Bride Favorites to see what's hot! Have a suggestion? Email brides@magnetstreet.com

Seasons eating everyone! Getting back on the Wedding planning horse!
It's the day after Thanksgiving, and you may have shared it with friends, family, meeting your in laws for the first time, or even just the two of you, chances are that you now have a ton of left overs. Instead of letting that turkey sit in your fridge until it begins to smell funny, whip it out now for an "After Thanksgiving Stew"?
A lot of us do a little over eating this time of year, and that can be a bother when it comes to keeping a healthy diet for the wedding to look your absolute best, and soup is a wonderful way of getting the nutrition you need without over doing it at meal time, especially with Christmas and New Years coming up.
After Thanksgiving Stew
The real difference between soup and stew is thickness, you can eat stew by itself as a meal, and soup, you would want to serve with something else
Take a mix of white and dark meat ( dark being the more tender )or left over ham, your choice
Slice carrots, celery, potatoes and set aside ( or use any other veggies )
Bring a pot of water to a boil on the stove
Put turkey meat in and potatoes and carrots ( as these are going to take the longest to cook )
Put a tablespoon or eye ball it of extra virgin olive oil ( When we add oil, the pot won't boil over )
Add your celery once your other ingredients have started to boil
I like to add chopped leeks, but that's just me
Now that everything is boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for another 30 - 40 minutes minutes on low with a lid
Cuddle with your honey, and then serve

Embellishing Your Winter Wedding
I live in Minnesota where we just had a long, spectacular fall~ bursting with autumn splendor. Painted landscapes forever recorded in wedding photos will remind couples of their nuptials and the beauty of the season.
As we Minnesotans brace ourselves for the winter (it can get a little cold here) I consider all the weddings that will take place this time of year. I imagine twinkling lights, chimney smoke, and horse-drawn sleigh rides from the ceremony to the reception, under quietly falling snow. Oh, sooo romantic!
The gathering of family and friends, snowfalls, the holidays, fireplaces and the smell of hot apple cider are reminiscent of winter time and all things cozy. Even if you live in a climate that is primarily warm or rarely snows, you can still have that winter wedding you dream of. Consider all the ways you can reflect this theme in your wedding.
Color: Traditionally, white or a combination with white, i.e. blue, silver, black etc. Color is definitely in! Think about the colors that you naturally drift towards or use an online interactive color matching tool to find the best combination.
Apparel: Adorn yourself and your bridesmaids in gorgeous wraps for drama~ and to keep you warm!
Decorations: Use nature as a backdrop for your photos. If appropriate, ask your venue contacts if you can use existing decorations. Illuminate the atmosphere by stringing white lights and using candles. Hand-craft your centerpieces out of pine branches, ivy, pinecones or some other variation. Talk to your caterer about creating an ice sculpture(s). Decorate with glitter, hanging snowflakes, holly berries, velvet bows, Christmas trees, red and green, etc for that wintry-feel.
Hot Beverages: Imagine your guests coming in to the reception hall and being greeted by the sweet aroma of hot cider, hot chocolate or a specialty coffee that fills the air.
So, let your creativity flow. Put together an inspiration board that features your favorite elements regarding: style, color, venues, etc. Ask family, friends and vendors for their ideas. Achieve the winter wedding of your dreams!
Share the joy of your winter wedding and the blessings of the season with personalized holiday cards. Choose from a variety of Christmas card designs at www.MagnetStreetWeddings.com available on both linen paper and magnets. Go to www.MagnetStreetWeddings.com. Click on Product Guide and then on Holiday Cards.
Save on wedding products! Exclusive offer: 15% discount on Wedding Invitations or Save the Dates, available only for BridesClub members. Enter promotional code WBC15 in line #1 on the billing page. Offer good through December 15th.
Cheers to winter weddings!

Lanikuhonua "Where Heaven Meets Earth"
Lanikuhonua has become one of the most popular wedding and special event locations due to the wide open space, beautiful sunsets, pristine beach and the ability to really create the event that YOU want as you have the ability to bring in your own caterer, equipment, tent, etc. so you are only limited by your imagination (and sometimes budget).
Off-premise catering does involve alot more details in planning as you literally have to order every piece of equipment, plate, glassware, chair, etc. that needs to be on-site, which is one of the reasons that they require you have an on-site coordinator.
Hawaii Weddings and Events has a great package for Lanikuhonua brides entitled "For Your Peace of Mind." It is basically a wrap-up package which will double check everything that you've done to ensure that not only your vendors are confirmed, but that all of your equipment needs, tent, chair, table sizes, linen sizes, etc. are precise and will also prepare a floor plan to let you see how your event will be laid out.
For those brides that don't have as much time to plan, they will find our Saavy Bride package to be great as it helps to get your vendors in place and offers a team relationship as well as of course, on-site coordination for the day.
You only have one chance for lifetime memories.........invest in yourself by hiring the only event professional in Hawaii that is not only a Certified Professionsal Catering Executive (CPCE) and Certified Meeting Planner (CMP)

Shooting up on the North Shore, Hawaii
This past weekend was another great shoot on the North Shore over at Turtle Bay Resort. The challenge becomes where to shoot, there are so many choices. The couple eloped from California and were so happy to be able to receive proofs before they left Hawaii.
Photographing weddings in Hawaii for destination couples poses a different challenge than for a couple that lives here.
Building a relationship with a client is so important to a photographer because it helps us help you to be more relaxed in front of the camera on you wedding day. I always photograph a couple prior to the wedding to see how they are in front of the camera to build rapport.
How do we meet this challenge when they're so far away? This is where email, IM, and cell phones are key into building a relationship so far away. Being more accessible to my couples with these on line tools has been key to when we actually meet face-to-face. Even if I have not photographed them before it's pretty close.

The Benefits of Using Wedding Professionals
Decisions. There are a myriad of decisions to make when a couple decides to marry. Aside from setting the date and determining your style and budget, one of the biggest decisions is deciding who your wedding vendors will be. If your budget permits, I suggest using professionals in as many areas of wedding planning as possible!
My wedding was planned in just two short months. Due to time and budget constraints, we chose to cut costs where we could. My wonderful cousin Robin offered to stand in as photographer and I gratefully accepted her proposal. After all, she was a journalist by trade. What could go wrong? I had no worries as she shot endless photos, capturing family, friends and the festivities of the day. It was not until later that I found out that there was a problem with her equipment and the photos were unusable. Now, my wedding was still lovely, my cousin still wonderful but I have no professional photos of my wedding. Why? My cousin is not a professional photographer.
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life and you want your guests comfortable, the emotion captured, and the food delicious with fun music to bring your guests out of their chairs. The reason we hire professionals is for their expertise, experience and resources~ even in the event of potential upset.
If you choose to use the services of a wedding professional, begin with referrals from family and friends. Interviewing, auditioning, taste-testing and probing portfolios will help make sure their services are a match with your style. There are also referral services to help determine a vendor's professionalism, services and business ethics. Additionally, wedding professionals themselves have a vast knowledge of the industry and connection to other vendors that a lay person does not have.
Speaking of professionals, MagnetStreet Weddings is now featuring the Artist Series, a collection of hand-painted designs from our in-house artist, Laura. Beautiful and exclusive to MagnetStreet Weddings, these original designs for save the dates, wedding invitations, thank you cards and notepad favors cannot be found anywhere else. Check them out at www.MagnetStreetWeddings.com. Click on Product Guide and then on Artist Series. Feel free to comment on these stunning designs via email to brides@magnetstreet.com. Let us know what you think about the Artist Series or what other designs you would like to see.

So you want your reception to be different...
Aloha and thanks you for visiting my blog. Todays blog will deal with a few of the receptions that I recently entertained at. When I sit down for a consultation with couples, I invite them to share their vision of what their dream reception would be like. Most often, they say they want it to be unique, fun, and not boring. Now there are as many different ways to interpret that as there are couples getting married. That being said, I find that most of the couples that I work with are unique in their own special way.
Take for example, Pat and Erin who were recently wed at the beautiful Waimea Falls Botanical Garden. This was an outdoor wedding and the reception was held under the pavilion. It was sprinkling throughout the day and raining hard off and on prior to the ceremony. However, just as the ceremony was scheduled to begin, the showers stopped and the sun broke through the clouds as I began to play the processional music. The family and friends in attendance roared, clapped, and laughed loudly as the sounds of AC/DCs Back in Black played as she walked down the aisle. After the ceremony, the recessional was Tom Pettys Even the Losers (get lucky sometime). It was quite funny and everyone enjoyed it. Right after that, it started to pour& but everyone had enough time to find cover under the pavilion.
Dinner music consisted of classic rock and oldies. The dancing portion consisted of more classic rock and oldies& no Electric Slide, YMCA, or Macarena. Personally, I love classic rock and Big Chill music. Needless to say, I had a lot of fun, and Pat and Erin were extremely pleased to have their reception reflect their unique personality and style.
Moving on, Dawn and Gregs reception was unique regarding the dinner music. The bride and groom requested Bluegrass music to be played throughout cocktail hour and dinner. This was the very first time in all of my years DJing, that I had ever played Bluegrass music. It was interesting at first, and then it was a lot of fun. I did get to play some country music and Hawaiian music in between, but the Bluegrass was a twist. The mainland guests loved it and the locals were introduced to a new genre of music.
I share these experiences with you only because couples always ask me, how can you make my reception different? How can you customize my reception to reflect my personality and style? Well, these are a few examples of how music can help distinguish your reception from the last one you attended.
From our large video screens, custom recordings, custom mixes, the Father/Daughter custom slide show, to our custom lighting gobos, we have several ways to help make your reception unique and fun. Check my website for my availability, peruse my music database to customize your dance music requests, and check out some of the pictures at Bridesclub. Call me to schedule a free no obligation consultation to learn more about how Video DJs of Hawaii can help make your special celebration stress free, worry free, hassle free.
