Many cruise lines now have provisions for wedding ceremonies aboard the ship, and more and more couples are taking to the sea for their nuptials and, of course, for their honeymoon, also.
The wedding ceremony can be civil or religious depending on the package and the preference of the bride and groom. Contrary to the Hollywood image, today's cruise ship captains are not allowed to perform wedding ceremonies. Also, you cannot get married while the ship is at sea, but only when it's in a U.S. port. Regulations regarding marriage licenses vary by state, and the cruise line will send you all relevant information.
With prices for conventional weddings soaring, another attraction of shipboard ceremonies is the cost. Wedding packages begin at about $250, and go as high as $1200, with the average wedding package around $650. On land, a wedding photographer alone can cost a thousand dollars. If you choose to have your Wedding onboard, approximately $1,000. will pay for the ceremony, the ship's photographer, a wedding album, flowers and a reception for twenty people with cake, champagne, open bar, and hot and cold hors d'oeuvres.
