Well we have wanted to do this for the last few years so now is the time.
We are in the process of buying a 3 story old historic brick building in downtown Van Wert Ohio.
With three floors and 3,000 sq feet on each floor we now have plenty of room to create our vision.
The frist floor will be gutted out to the bare brick walls and down to the old oak flooring. Take out the drop ceiling to show the old tin ceiling.
Our studio/gallery will be on the first floor with the mezanine overlooking the gallery.
From the mezanine you go up the oak stairs to the 2nd floor where we will have office space and living space. Oak floors and brick walls with atrium up to the 3rd floor. Bay windows overlooking the downtown area where our living space will be located, all in an open loft living space.
Up the open staircase up to the 3rd floor where we will have 2 large bedrooms, walk in closets and huge bath/laundry room. This floor also get stripped down to the oak floors and brick walls. All open floor plan for loft living with bay window looking out over the city.
In the future we hope to take out the bay window on 3nd floor and create a recesed balcony that would overlook the city.
Taking the front of the building back to its old historic look with pillars and glass front with canvas awning. The openness of the front will allow you to look into the front of the gallery where we will have our canvas prints from weddings and seniors, but also room for local artist to display their art. Pottery, Paintings, and other art work will docorate the gallery with renderings of what the old downtown area used to look like and the new artist drawings for what the new renovation for downtown Van Wert will look like in the furture.
We hope to be part of this process and create a new trend for small town rural america, and that is loft living downtown. We will keep everyone updated with pictures of the project as we go thru the renovation and making all the changes to our project.
So stay tuned, it should be an exciting time for everyone.
And if you love taking down old lath, removing old horse hair plaster please let us know. We are looking for workers who are into historic preservation and just pain having fun.
Bill
