Just engaged? Congratulations! Pretty soon the subject of money and budgeting will rear its head. Here are some hints and tips to help with your budgeting efforts:
1. Research wedding products so that you have a general idea of what costs are before you make purchases.
2. Realize that many vendors will offer discounted rates for weddings held on a Friday, Sunday or in the least popular months (Jan, March).
3. Be conservative when estimating your expenses. Having money left over is better than having to cut something out that you really love in the end.
4. Manage vendor deposits and consider using a no balance, zero percent interest credit card to keep your expenses organized and in one spot. Know vendor return/cancellation policies.
5. Keep track of your expenses. Keep and log receipts in your planner.
6. When configuring your budget, consider likely additional costs i.e. permits, rentals, shipping and handling, etc.
7. Check in with each other to review expenses to make sure you're still on the same page with how your money is being spent. Stay in agreement with one another.
Get your wedding planning off to a great start with a firm financial foundation and a determination to enjoy every step of the way. Special, one of a kind moments are being made all the time. Enjoy them!
