By using different methods to illuminate an area, you can create a mood or alter an atmosphere to make it warm and inviting. For instance, low level lighting will create a cozy and romantic atmosphere. Accomplish this with stringing white lights, hanging lanterns, strategically placing torches, uplights, and using rope lighting. Also use special lighting as centerpieces with tea lights and hurricane lamps.
Take a stroll around your ceremony and reception venues to see how and where you could add lighting to create the drama (and safety) you desire. If your reception is held during the evening and outdoors, illuminate walkways and paths by stringing lights. Place luminaries on tables or hang them from surrounding trees for that soft look. The more interesting the pattern holes in the luminary, the more interesting the light they will toss out.
Consider putting together one or two specially lit, cozy nooks at the reception venue for those guests that love intimate conversation. I have found that tap lights work great. They can be placed anywhere (I bought mine to put in my outside hibiscus tree plant) and work on batteries. Use your imagination for ways to illuminate and create drama with low level lighting.
