I live in Minnesota where we just had a long, spectacular fall~ bursting with autumn splendor. Painted landscapes forever recorded in wedding photos will remind couples of their nuptials and the beauty of the season.

As we Minnesotans brace ourselves for the winter (it can get a little cold here) I consider all the weddings that will take place this time of year. I imagine twinkling lights, chimney smoke, and horse-drawn sleigh rides from the ceremony to the reception, under quietly falling snow. Oh, sooo romantic!

The gathering of family and friends, snowfalls, the holidays, fireplaces and the smell of hot apple cider are reminiscent of winter time and all things cozy. Even if you live in a climate that is primarily warm or rarely snows, you can still have that winter wedding you dream of. Consider all the ways you can reflect this theme in your wedding.

Color: Traditionally, white or a combination with white, i.e. blue, silver, black etc. Color is definitely in! Think about the colors that you naturally drift towards or use an online interactive color matching tool to find the best combination.

Apparel: Adorn yourself and your bridesmaids in gorgeous wraps for drama~ and to keep you warm!

Decorations: Use nature as a backdrop for your photos. If appropriate, ask your venue contacts if you can use existing decorations. Illuminate the atmosphere by stringing white lights and using candles. Hand-craft your centerpieces out of pine branches, ivy, pinecones or some other variation. Talk to your caterer about creating an ice sculpture(s). Decorate with glitter, hanging snowflakes, holly berries, velvet bows, Christmas trees, red and green, etc for that wintry-feel.

Hot Beverages: Imagine your guests coming in to the reception hall and being greeted by the sweet aroma of hot cider, hot chocolate or a specialty coffee that fills the air.

So, let your creativity flow. Put together an inspiration board that features your favorite elements regarding: style, color, venues, etc. Ask family, friends and vendors for their ideas. Achieve the winter wedding of your dreams!
