Why should I hire a make-up artist?

It's probably one of the last details on your mind- wedding day make-up. But maybe the most important!! Whether you are a seasoned pro or don't wear a stitch of make-up I encourage you to at least seek advice from an artist that specializes in wedding day make-up. It will ensure that every member of your Bridal Party will be picture perfect. "Should I really hire a make-up artist? Why can't I just go to the make-up counter?"
I get asked those questions a million times. My answer is always, "Of course you should hire a make-up artist!" but if you are losing sleep and going back and forth about it in your mind, here are some thoughts to think about:

1. Think of your bridesmaids. Do you like the way they do their make-up? Especially for special occasions. Weddings are not necessarily a great time for more eyeliner or darker lipstick. You would be surprised at how the eye is drawn to these sorts of things in a photograph. (i.e. You, the Bride, should remain as the center of attention- not your sisters new Russian Red liptsick from MAC)

2. What time of day is your wedding? Different times of day call for different application techniques. What looks great in the soft mid-morning light doesn't always translate well to the harsher shadows of late afternoon.

3. What color is your dress? Style? Fabric? Yes, this does matter. Whether it's white or ivory, a wedding gown will inevitably suck all the color right out of your face. I can help you bring your glowing face back from all that satin and lace!

4. Do I really need a make-up artist? Why can't I just go to the make-up counter?
Do you want to look your best on your wedding day? Of course you do! Leave it to the professionals. While some make-up counters have great artists, they are there to do one thing- sell product. (I know- I used to be one of them.) You may not want to buy everything the Beauty Advisor puts on your face. Also, they may not have as extensive training as a professional make-up artist would.

Here are some tips on selecting an artist:
-Do they have a portfolio? (it doesn't necessarily have to be all Bridal shots.) Do you like their style for beauty make-up?

-Do they specialize in weddings? If they have a website, is there a special section or page dedicated to Brides and Bridal Parties? There are a lot of make-up artists out there. Some are professionals and some just know how to apply cosmetics. There is a difference. If they don't offer a consultation before a Bridal Day Run-through, you may want to research more options.

-Does your make-up artist offer lessons in lieu of day-of services? A make-up lesson is a great alternative and can save you money! It's also a great girls night out. Not only will you be able to re-create your wedding day look but you may pick up some great tips for future use as well!

Well ladies, I hope this helps to clear some of your foggy little heads. Please don't be afraid to email me to ask questions!(It doesn't have to be about make-up- I was a Bride once too.) If you just don't know, pay for a consultation! Then you know! I offer an initial no obligation consultation just for that reason. So email or call me with questions or to chat!
Happy Planning!!
