New Master Jeweler in San Diego

Jay Whaley, who has been teaching jewelry making at UCSD La Jolla for over 21 years, now heads up the Wedding Ring Workshop located in Hillcrest, San Diego.
The first few couples who have consulted with him on their ideas have been thrilled by his calm assurances that they can make their desired design with their own hands in less than a day (with his guidance, of course!).

Men getting bolder?

Here at WEDDING RING WORKSHOP, where couples come in to make each other's rings with their own hands under the guidance of a Master Jeweler, we've noticed an interesting trend.
Quite a few men are coming in to make engagement rings, usually in secret. They then propose to their significant others, offering the ring with the telling phrase "I made this for you with my own hands"
What girl could resist the sheer romanticism of such a proposal?
We usually reserve some precious metal so, when they come in later to make each other's wedding bands, we have matching metal waiting.

Testimonials...

Wendy, Martin and Lewis,
When we first contacted The Wedding Ring Workshop, we already had expensive platinum engagement bands from Tiffany & Co.© When it came to the wedding rings. we knew that money wouldn't make the rings special. The only way would be to make them for each other, from our hearts, as a special expression of love. The jeweler at the Workshop insured that we had nothing but the most beautiful final product. I am looking at mine right now, and it reminds me of the special time we spent putting ourselves into the rings we gave to each other. The Workshop provided a safe, fun, entertaining and romantic way to make our unique rings. We spent much less money at the Wedding Ring Workshop than we would have at a retail store, but the end jewelry is much, much more valuable. An heirloom worth passing for generations.

Lewis,
We would like to thank you for our enjoyable morning and champagne lunch at the Wedding Ring WorkshopTM and for the friendly helpfulness of you and especially Martin. We are sure that the beautiful rings we made are due to his skill as an instructor rather than to ours as "students". Friends have a tough time believing we really made them ourselves. We wish you good luck with this clever idea.

-Glenn and Rachael, San Diego, CA

Dear Martin and Lewis,
Thanks for the great adventure Sunny and I enjoyed when we came to your Hillcrest studio and made each other's rings. We can't stop boasting to our friends about our skills but, of course, without your help and guidance it would have been impossible! I suspect you are going to be hearing from several couples quite soon.

-Pam, Mission Gorge

I just wanted to say on behalf of myself and Richard, what a great day we had when we came to make the rings. We weren't really sure what to expect but everyone was really friendly and helpful and we had a really good time. Not sure what the photos are going to look like though! I have to say we never ever thought what we started with would ever turn into the rings that we made but hey, now we are such experts we couldset up on our own! Yeah Right!! Needless to say we have been telling all our friends about it even though there is a bit of us that just wants to keep it to ourselves because it was a special day for us.

What's a Wedding Ring Workshop?

• A romantic adventure like no other •
• The perfect symbol of your affection •
• Uniquely custom-made - you did it yourselves •
• Turning precious metal into priceless memories •

Make each others' wedding rings with your own hands, in your choice of metal and design, in the course of a leisurely 5 to 6 hours or so. Our experienced jewelers will guide and help you to a professional finish that will delight you. We guarantee it.

We'll also photograph you both at the various making stages - including the last one proudly holding the rings you just made - and give you the camera to take home with you.

Heirloom jewelry of equal purity may be incorporated into your wedding bands. Diamonds or other precious stones can also be added - generally at 30% below other quotes. Rings can be made heavier at extra cost.

*Touchdown - How it all started:

The Wedding Ring Experience was first created in London as the result of a challenge thrown down by our founder, Simon Lewis, in the locker room of his Rugby football team after a game! Knowing of his fine reputation and artistic skill as a jeweler, one of his team-mates asked Simon if he would make the wedding bands for him and his bride. Jokingly, Simon replied “Why don't you make them yourself? I'll show you how.” The rest, as they say - is history
