Dianna K. Shitanishi, CPCE, CMP is currently attending the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) Educational Conference in Houston, Texas which offers continued education for catering and event professionals.
"Going Green" is not only a trend in the catering and meeting industry with conference materials posted on-line, printed materials on recycled paper and recycling stations, but is also one of the fastest growing trends in the wedding industry.
Examples of going "green" include:
Choosing either a bridal gown or bridesmaids dresses that may be worn again to parties.
Organized car pools or transportation to reduce the number of vehicles transporting guests.
Having ceremony and reception in one location.
Enjoying locally grown organic food.
Using fine china and linen napkins instead of throwaways.
Making a donation to a charity in the name of your guests instead of having favors.
Using recycled paper for invitations and placecards.
Using websites for posting information for guests versus printed materials.
Re-use ceremony florals for ceremony or potted plants versus flowers.
Using natural backdrops
Decorate with locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Using fans instead of bouquets for bridesmaids.
Acoustic music
Digital photography over film.
Celebrating a wedding with global awareness is a satisfying way to begin a life of commitment together and also an important way for all of us to provide even more environmentally correct business practices.
