Is it acceptable to wear a dress that isn't floor length to a formal reception?

We are planning a formal evening reception, and I have found the perfect bridesmaids dresses, but they are not floor length. They come about mid calf, and I was wondering if this is acceptable.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I have not found anything in the etiquette book that says you can't have your wedding attendants wear a shorter dress. In fact I was in a very formal wedding this past Spring and the bride had a very elegant floor length gown. We had tea length dresses. They went well together and everyone was happy. In the end, I believe that whatever you want is what goes. The day is about you!!!
