Rehearsal dinner, who to invite?

My fiance and I are getting married in California. Everyone from both sides will be traveling to get to the wedding. The question came up recently about what to do with the out of town guests and the rehearsal dinner. I've heard it said that out of town guests should be invited to the rehearsal dinner, but what if all the guests are from out of town (i.e. 150 people?) My opinion that is that bridal party, groomsmen and only immediately involved family should be invited, is that right?
