What is an appropriate amount to spend on a wedding gift?

We're getting ready to set up our bridal registry and need to know what to expect people to spend on gifts.

I would say $100 is normal. We asked for giftcards to a number of our favorite stores, and that's what it averaged out to be.

Here on the East Coast, guests tend to spend about $100 per guest on a wedding gift. When setting up your registries - yes, you can have more than one! - remember to give your guests spending choices. Gifts that start at $25 and run as high $200 can be appropriate (if they've been invited to your wedding, you probably know them well enough to guess their budget). Don't forget, registering with a 'Honeymoon Registry' allows your guests to treat you to a couples massage, a romantic dinner on the beach, or even a sunset cruise. Most come with a wedding website which is a great way to keep out-of-town guests up-to-date with your plans.

On average, I've seen $75 to $100 per guest. This of course can vary depending on location of your wedding.
