I personally am putting together my own invitations. I will probably design them and then have a printer print of the wording to make it nice but then put it all together myself. Saves some time and some money. But other than that...I'm just not creative enough. If you are tho i say DIY is so worth it. It makes your wedding more personal.

I thought about doing a bunch of stuff myself; Martha Stewart makes it look so easy! So I decided to try making a few practice things; it didn't go so well. Whereas a friend of mine is really good at crafts and made most of her own, and everyone thought hers were store bought. It all depends on how good you (or a dedicated friend) are at making things. Good luck.
If you begin very early, and want pocketfold style invitations, with a meeting with your printer's design staff, you may save the labor on assembly and have much higher end invitations than mail order, and more individualized too. Judy Lilley, judy@lilleyprinting.com
I agree with Anna (above), you definitely want to delegate some tasks. A nice way to do this is to have little get togethers to do invitations, favors, etc. that also gives you time to spend with your friends. The other thing to consider is what is worth your time and what isn't, sometimes if it takes too long, it may be worth your time to hire someone to take care of some tasks so you aren't stressing about it.

Delegate! Get family, friends, even your fiancee to help out with them. For my brother's and sister's weddings, we as a family did the decorations, setup for the receptions and broke them down at the end. It helped to have out of town family because they wanted to pitch in as well. When I get married, I know my siblings and the rest of my family will do the same. I think they are totally worth doing. It saves on cost, plus you can use them again for other projects whereas when you rent, you get nothing back.
