My wedding is December 27, 2008, and I feel like the obvious way to go is red, but the more I thought about it, I'm not a huge fan of red. My favorite color is purple and his favorite color is green, so I decided to go with deep purples and deep greens. They look gorgeous together!

What are your favorite colors? Just because you have a winter wedding doesn't mean they have to be winter colors. Don't forget to ask your other half what their favorite colors are! GOOD LUCK!
I love the darker jewel tones for winter weddings. It really depends on your gown color, if you are wearing white, almost any color will go. I personally don't like the gold tones with white. If your gown is Ivory, I try to steer brides away from the colors with blue undertones becasuse I feel they are too cool with Ivory. The best idea is to have a list of your favorite colors and ask to look at color fabric swatches (not paint samples) with the color of your gown. There are about 55 different colors available for maids gowns from most manufacturers. Hope this helps, Betty, Proms & Promises
Charcol, blue and white are in this winter. Look for things that remind you of the clouds/rivers/lakes. Contact us and we can come up with a color palette that's personalized to you. www.esseanceofweddings.com or call (206)919.9801 or (253)820.8969
I've always liked silver, white, baby blue, and navy blue, very winter, not so much Christmas. I have the luck of having a birthday that is 3 days after Christmas, so these have always been a nice "special event" color scheme for me, instead of the red, green, and white that is normally associated with the Holiday season.
Choosing Colors; A Basic Guide
I find that in going back to basic High School Art Class lessons is greatly helpful in choosing colors. Did you ever make up a color wheel? If so, you know that complimentary colors are opposite each other, analogous (or harmonious colors) are next to each other, and monochromatic colors are actually one color with various amounts or tint or shade. Go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_wheel#Analogous_color_scheme for more details.
Anyway, for a winter wedding, here are some examples:
complimentary scheme: pomegranate red, chartreuse & gold gilt (add a little chocolate brown for depth)
analogous scheme: lavender, pale blue & white w/ silver accents
monochromatic scheme: royal purple, violet, periwinkle
A Planner can help you decide how much to use of your chosen colors, and where to utilize them. Good Luck.
