If my wedding reception is only 3 hours, should I bother to hire a band or dj?

I want to, but I'm afraid there wouldn't be justification to the cost due to the time frame.

DJS are way more fun gal!! For sure DJ, you can have water ever music sung the way you like it!

Just be careful if you are using an iPod...because having a DJ (or band) really helps with the announcing of special events during your wedding and keeping timelines on track (like announcing the Bride and Groom into the Reception, or getting everyone on the dance floor to catch the Garter/Bouquet, or announcing the cake cutting etc.) See if a local DJ would be willing to negotiate prices - especially if they are not booked yet! Good luck!

Actually my fiancé and I are doing the same thing and we're just compiling a bunch of songs on our iPod and going to play that. Where we are having the reception there is a small sounds system.
