How do I choose the right DJ?

I've been to some weddings where the DJ makes the party. How do I find that DJ?

See them in action if possible, the last DJ at a wedding I was at must have been tone deaf because the volume was unpleasant to most of the wedding party. Experience required, ask for a former brides information and ask her what she thought.

Shopping for the right DJ - Education 101
Please read this very important information if you are hiring a DJ for your next event. This very valuable information will help you to make the right choice for entertainment at your next event.

Beware of ﾓSo Called Professional Companiesﾔ with $375.00 and under packages. They claim they have so many years experience when in fact they just are starting off and have very little or no experience. Or they claim they have 20+ years experience which may be true but they are not the DJ. The owners or managers may have 20+ Years in the business but they are not the oneﾒs showing up to your event playing your music.

Cheap Competition
Poor Quality Speakers ﾗ Most ﾓSo Called Professional Companiesﾔ who offer these $375.00 and under packages will use poor quality speakers or even bring their home stereo speakers to your event! They simply cannot afford to buy high-end or good quality speakers.

Cheap Competition
They do not use speaker stands and put the speakers on chairs or even the ground.

Disadvantages ﾗ There wonﾒt be any proper sound for your guests because the sound will be directed right below their heads when dancing which means very poor sound quality. Also placing speakers on the ground or on chairs looks very tacky for events especially weddings.

They do not use any type of light stands. They place the lights on the tables.

Disadvantages ﾗ People who will be dancing on the dance floor will be blinded by the light because of the light pointing from the bottom up. Again, this is very tacky looking for events especially weddings.

Cheap Competition
Fake DJﾒs - ﾓSo Called DJﾒsﾔ who just play a mix music CD, is not in fact a DJ. Most of those ﾓSo Called DJﾒsﾔ will claim they have so many years experience or they claim they have been spinning in clubs. More then likely that will be false. We have seen $350.00 and under companies play music that they recorded straight from the radio because they cannot afford to buy the latest music. We have also seen the same ﾓSo Called DJﾒsﾔ play someone elseﾒs mix CD that someone else had mixed and they stand there making like they are mixing the music.

Disadvantages ﾗ They will not be able to take requested music from your guests because their music is already preprogrammed with music that someone else mixed for them. Also, they will not be able to play the proper music for the proper crowds.

Conclusion
Now that you have read some of the important details on hiring the right entertainment company, you can go out and shop for your entertainment. Donﾒt be afraid to ask questions when looking for a DJ. You can never ask too many questions! Please keep in mind that we are not saying that the most expensive DJ companies are the best oneﾒs because thatﾒs not true. But if you do your homework, you will find the best entertainment company within a reasonable budget.

Congratulations in your Wedding Engagement!

Picking a DJ or Wedding Entertainer is very difficult for couples today, that is why I recommend that you Search for someone you can trust in your heart and who you feel really is compatible with your tastes and vision of your wedding day and not just rely on whom offers the lowest price or who offers the most bells and whistles. Remember to ask as many questions as possible and especially talk or meet with them. We try to answer as many questions on our emails from brides, but to be very honest, emails are so not personable and we encourage you to always try to call or meet with your DJ first, so you can get a better feel of their work and experience and most important their personality.

We understand that for most people, choosing a Wedding Entertainer/DJ is often difficult and confusing, yet the most important decision you will make for your wedding reception. Since everyone claims to be "the best", how can you really Find out who is good, and who is amateur? For a once in a lifetime events like a wedding reception, you best start with a professional. Don't take chances with "a friend of a friend." Although people mean well, lack of experience or skill will not prepare them to handle unexpected details, especially a wedding.

First, I really recommend you start with a wedding specialist. A DJ from a club or school dance may be great, but they're not necessarily right or specialize in weddings.

Second, Meet in person if you can or at least by phone with the DJ or Entertainment Company. This is not a decision that can be made over the Internet, by emails only. You must be sure you are comfortable with the DJ's style and see if it is a good match for you. After all, they will be representing you at your wedding ceremony & reception.

Then, check the history and background of the DJ Company. Do they have references? What makes them stand out as a wedding DJ expert? And don't just take their word for it, call several of their references and find out WHY the client loved their DJ/Entertainer. Don't make the mistake of choosing a DJ by price alone. If the DJ is not a good fit, but the right price, it won't matter a bit if he ruins your special day that you spent big money and many months planning.
