How do I keep the flower girl happy during a long day?

I'm having my 3 year old niece as a flower girl, and we are taking pictures before the wedding. I'm worried about her having a total melt down during the ceremony, any ideas?

BABY SITTER ! Finding that perfect sitter who may not be so connected with the couple getting married could be a big help. - sort of the one to keep that important eye on the child. Have the snacks, change of clothes, schedual on hand of what the time looks like for that day, knowing when to head home before it's all over or to show up later than most. Obviously someone the child can lean on when all the business gets her a wee bit confused.

Sugar! Just kidding, small snacks through out the day that keeps her blood sugar evened out will keep her moods regulated, some suggestions are crackers and cheese, protein plus carb, nothing that will stain.

Definitely time her pictures accordingly. If she needs nap during the day, then take her pictures first so she can nap in between them and the ceremony. I would also allow her to change. Most little girls dont' like to be all dressed up in fluffy dresses for hours on end. They like being a princess in their dress but as the day wears on they get annoyed with it. If she can change into her own comfortable sundress for the reception then that can help too. Definitely have some of her favorites around (favorite cup, toy, candy, etc.) A little bribery can also go a long way. I would make sure she is at the rehearsal and fully understands how many people will be there too....otherwise, be prepared for her to possibly not make it down the aisle alone...or maybe not at all. Even the most enthusiastic of flower girls doesn't always go down the aisle once they see the crowd. The key is to keep her comfortable and satisfies. Let her eat a snack, color in the air conditioned limo, etc.

Let the flower girl get her rest and bring her out for pictures as late as possible so she's not out in the hot sun. Have a nice little gift (small bracelet) or something that shows how special she is to you and how much you love her for being in your wedding. Coloring books, or other types of things at the dining table works out well too. When I've had event with alot of children, we've even brought in a babysitter to play games in a corner or separate room for a little while which gives the parents a chance to relax and enjoy too

Though I have no experience with this, I have been taking care of children for many years. I would think the pictures that involve the flower girl should be taken the earliest if she is not in all of them. Once her pictures are complete, send her off to her mother for some playtime. Make sure the mom has some toys or games that she can play until the rest of the pictures are complete. This way, she doesn't get too bored with standing still for too long in one spot. You know how kids hate that!
