How do we honeymoon near his family and still have alone time?

We're honeymooning in Hawaii and he hasn't seen his family in two years. We want to see them, but still have time for ourselves.

Center your Honeymoon around YOU TWO! Family is important but think of it as you two have just started a NEW family. Put the first half just to yourself and then join the rest the second half. You know more about locations, how many people and places you would need to go to. If some are not really close together, than plan a 'get together' with as many at one time to avoid taking up more of YOUR days together just goint here-and-there to see others. Lord willing, you will have other times to visit family but it looks like this would be your only honeymoon - so.... PUT THAT FIRST!

No matter what they insist, book a hotel for alone time. Spend time with them during the day, after dinner, tell them that you will see them in the morning, or the afternoon ( wink, wink ) and remember this is your honeymoon, quality time together is important.

Hi,

I just recently "sent off" one of my brides for her wedding in Maui. I have to say, she had a great idea for this situation!

She made an itinerary for all the family and guests that were attending for the 2 weeks that they would be on the island. The itinerary showed what activities were happening when and it showed some "slots" that were completely blacked out....ie: the couple's private time. Do not disturb! During the scheduled (optional) activities times, anyone was welcome to make arrangements to join the happy couple. She also had the "Your presence is necessary" times on the schedule.

Hope that helps.

Our honeymoon ended up with us spending the last week of it in town with my husband's best friend. The first night we stayed AT his best friends house and that really didn't work, LOL, so for the other nights, we got a room at a local hotel. Even with spending most of the daytime activites with his best friend, there was still PLENTY of time for quality newlywed alone time. hehe It actually made the trip more fun to have others to share it with, and it was still very romantic when it needed to be. ;)

Hello!
Hawaii is the perfect place for honeymooning and fitting in a family visit. There are many islands to choose from, and you can honeymoon on one or two, and visit family at another. One way to accommodate both a family visit and your honeymoon is to plan when to see the groom's family. Maybe you'd like to jump right in to your honeymoon and leave the visiting until the last couple of days. Or if your new husband is anxious to see his relatives, you might wish to visit first and then go off on your own. Whatever you decide, plan something special to do with his family, maybe an extended celebration of your marriage (Hawaiian-style), or perhaps a special family gathering place the groom's family can share with the bride. They'll know you want private time so don't be uncomfortable expressing your ideas. Plus, keep in mind you're not the first bride to share a honeymoon with relatives - and happy family wishes will only add to your wedding celebration. Let me know if I can help!

My sister and her husband had the same situation when they went to Hawaii for their honeymoon. They decided to go for two weeks. The first week they spent on a separate island from his family and then the second week they spent with the family. This way, they got alone time, and still was able to see his relatives without feeling like they were imposing on their honeymoon.
