How soon should I order my invites for my wedding?

I'd like to find the right ones, and not feel rushed, but I don't want to get them too late and feel the stress of getting them out on time.

You want to leave enough time for sending them out. This typically is around 3 months. So allow enough time for delivery, calligraphy and so on. I wouldn't go any later than 4 months before the wedding to ensure the best outcome of your guest list and allow for accomodations to be made as well. Dear Bride,
We think that sooner is definitely better than later when it comes to ordering invitations! Maybe it would help to take your timeline and work backwards as you know you will be mailing out your invitations 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding date.

Consider:
4 weeks printing time for the invitations
1-5 business days for vendor shipping time
How many days will you need to assemble and HAND address your invites&?
1-5 business days for your guests to receive them, once mailed.
How far back are you now? Also, consider that you will undoubtedly be making changes (at least I would be) or changing your mind altogether& (again, that would be me).

Are you a quick decision maker or do you need time to research invitation options and mull things over with family and friends? What about last-minute invites? These are practical things to think about and giving yourself at least 4 months prior to your wedding date to order order your invites, would be a general time frame. We would also encourage you to check with the vendor to see if they are able to accommodate any last minute changes or add-ons- should the need arise.

From experience, I suggest looking for your invitations at least 6 months out as sometimes you don't always find what you're looking for right away and may need to send away for samples. After you've decided on the invitation you want, then you can order them about 3-4 months in advance (depending on how long it takes for them to be completed) as it is better to have them on hand and you can gradually start writing out your invitations a few each evening versus trying to do it all at one time.

Ordering invitations 3 to 4 months...3 months? When it takes time to discern what you want, your wording, provide proofs, get them printed and address....that leaves a total of only 4 weeks to get them out 8 weeks before the wedding. Some of our suppliers take up to 2 weeks to proof, print and ship minimum. Even with local printing in our own shop, we are at least 6 to 10 days out on schedule wth orders. PLEASE give yourself more time than this or you will be very stressed. There is no way to add time to the calendar when it is needed except to begin early. Hello,
You should order invitations three to four months before the wedding so you leave time for proofing and any changes. Invitations should be mailed 6 to 8 weeks before your wedding date.

If you have many guests coming from far away, you may want to send save the date cards so they can book flights and hotels. This will make it easier for guests to plan the time to attend your special day! Save the date cards should go out six months in advance.
