Wedding Vendor Profile

The beauty of Kahu Pomaika‘i’s traditional Hawaiian weddings are matched only by the depth of their significance. Deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture, each can be individually crafted to cater to your specifications. Wedding ceremonies include a Ho‘oponopono ritual, which means “to put things in their proper order.” When a couple enters into marriage it is of great importance that their energies are exclusively connected to one other. A Ho‘oponopono facilitates this by cutting the AKA cords or “energetic connections” from past relationships, allowing the couple to be bonded solely to each other.

Although Kahu Pomaika‘i offers Hawaiian wedding services performed from a choice of numerous exquisite and sacred locations (including, but not limited to the Kahala beach, Lanikai beach and the North Shore) she is also open to any location that has special meaning to the couple.

Lei ceremonies are a popular request among couples. This ceremony involves two open-ended leis worn around the couples’ necks, then tied together, symbolizing two lives intertwining as one. Ring ceremonies are also highly requested, and in this ceremony both rings are placed in a sacred calabash bowl and then passed around to all members of the wedding party for blessing through the use of each person’s Ha or “breath of life.” This special ritual incorporates family and friends into the sacredness of the wedding ceremony.

Also upon request is the popular sounding of the conch shell – the conch blown in all four directions at the beginning of the wedding, to summon the ancestors.

Most traditional Hawaiian wedding ceremonies last approximately twenty minutes, though special requests are always accommodated. For example, weddings taking place at sacred sites including Heiau, (”sacred temples”), may run longer as protocol using appropriate pule (”prayer”) and oli (”chanting”) must be followed.

HAWAIIAN ALOHA BLESSINGS

“I want to spread the Aloha Spirit, and I want to be part of Ke Akua’s plan.“

Kahu Pomaika‘i graduated from Hawaii College of Clinical Massage with honors and has continued her studies by attending numerous certified Masters courses. Through her work she has helped improve the athletic performance and longevity of many clients, a skill which eventually led her to the sacred work of energy-touch, Lomilomi.

A licensed therapist for 14 years, Pomaika‘i owns and operates The Healing Hale (House of Healing) located at the Oahu Club (www.theoahuclub.com) in Hawai‘i Kai, where she administers Hawaiian Lomilomi massage as a Kahu. She also provides personal counseling in her role as a non-denominational alaka’i, or guide, counseling that at times includes Ho‘oponopono, opu huli treatments and shell healings. Pomaika‘i’s work is rooted in infinite aloha (love) and has a profound effect on her clients, facilitating the healing of body, mind and spirit.

Pomaika‘i has acted as a caregiver and a tutor for autistic children and has provided essential Lomilomi treatments for the terminally ill at Kuakini Hospital. She also played an integral role as Massage Therapist at both the Turtle Bay Resort Spa and at the Kahala Hotel and Resort Spa. She left her work there to expand her work as a Kahu.

Currently, Pomaika‘i performs traditional Hawaiian wedding ceremonies and serves as a Kahu for many local businesses and families needing Hawaiian blessings and/or clearings.
